Umhb having an offensive line that averages 300lbs, if they can't run the ball------something is seriously wrong!

Offensively that's what stood out most to me as well. No consistent running game. That can't happen over the course of the season with a line that size if the CRU is fixing to make another run this year.

Overall lots to clean up but at first glance (against a quality opponent) we have a promising squad that looks like they could so something special.

Just give that QB enough time to throw it to 82 and 0. They are a handful.

I agree with all of this.

There was plenty of sloppiness to get cleaned up, but most of the issues I saw tonight are fixable. Hopefully that applies to the running game as well.

Overall, I can't complain about a 21 point win against a solid opponent on a long road trip. It appears, admittedly based on a very small sample, that we're better off at QB than we've been since King left (yes, that's a low bar), and he has some explosive guys to throw to. The defense also looked pretty solid after a rough start, but they need to improve the tackling, and maintain their intensity after getting a solid lead rather than letting up like they did after taking the 28-7 lead.

Overall, I'm excited to see what they can do this year.

Yall covered it all, clean up the penalties and tackling, get a run game going and it's gonna be a really good season.

Moore didn't really do much in the run game but dang if he wasn't electric as a receiver. Jet Hayes had some really tough and elusive runs.

BJ Stewart was everything we expected and Trace Meullion was a surprise.

All in all, feeling the best I have in years after game 1.

Meanwhile, Howard Payne putting BTA on Pacific...

ETBU opens the season with a big win over Lyon today.  58-7.

They are not a good football team.

McMurry almost blew a 16 point 4th quarter lead. Then held Southwestern on their final drive, then went down for a 37 yard FG late. Final McM 36-26. Lots of big plays in the game tho'. I can see a 5-4 season from them.

Welcome Schreiner, 33-27 over AC.

ASC goes 6-0 on opening weekend. Wow.

Yup..... likely cementing why SCAC football schools would likely never return to the ASC under any circumstances.

More likely to come in the following weeks.

I've seen or heard every football game the Cru has ever played, and I thought the Rowan game was one of the best coaching jobs ever, for sure during the Harmon era. Here's the way I see it, prove me wrong:
-The team had a short week of practice and flew 1600 miles to play a Rowan squad that returned 19 of 22 starters from a team that was 8-2, with both losses to strong teams. Meanwhile, the Cru:
-Played the entire game with a QB making his first collegiate start.
-The OLine had only one returning starter, and he was at a different position. They need to improve on run blocking, but they only allowed one sack.
-Both RBs were new to the program.
-The DLine had only one returning starter, and he was on a "pitch count" due to injury. Two projected starters didn't play due to injury, and the DLine platoon included 3 freshmen. Still managed 2 sacks and kept pressure on the QB all day.
-LB's were strong and deep. but all the DB's were new.

After giving up a cheap early TD, the defense settled in and was stout the rest of the way.

And this coaching staff put this motley bunch together with only a couple of weeks of practice and 2 scrimmages to evaluate 215 players. I know it's only one game, but My hat is off to Harmon and staff.

The guy that bailed on Schreiner a few months into the job, Kenny Treschitta, is now on his second job in two seasons as an assistant at W&L after less than a year at Elmhurst.  Given the way things have worked out with Coach Allen, I'd say the Mountaineers dodged a bullet.

I believe Treschitta had some health problems which led to Schreiner making the change.

I'm going to disagree on the 5-4 prediction but I'm probably more bullish on this years McMurry team than most. It's worth noting they dominated the game despite the final 5.8 to 3.2 yards per play and McMurry's starting QB is on the roster but didn't play. Idk the details there but if he is not injured long term McMurry brought almost everyone back and added a few good transfers... Not sure anyone on their schedule outside of UMHB and HSU will beat them and they might even sneak up on one of the big dogs... (preferably the one on the other side of Abilene).
