Quote from: theaprof on August 23, 2025, 02:48:33 PMI don't really care about hype--I just want information.

That's my point though... they can't even give the fans, donors and students a roster.... at the very basics.

The only reason I would understand not putting it up the first week of camp would be so another college doesn't poach one of the 3-4 QBs, etc you recruit.

This has been my gripe across numerous sports.  I'm not expecting them to have up headshots and bios, but name/position/hometown shouldn't be hard to get posted pretty quickly.  It's 2025, I can't imagine when all the fall athletes show up on campus there's some asst. coach with a clipboard writing down their names for the first time.  And if the concern with football is that a lot of kids quit during camp, so what?  Update the roster.  A kid that was on the roster isn't next week.  Big deal.

two weeks away from toe meeting leather and who is actually on the Mount Union team is anybody's guess...it almost seems like more work to be so bad at social media, transparency, engagement, etc than what Mount does these days

THIS... TRULY! When you're a program of this standard, you expect all areas to follow suit.  It's not like we expect them to share practice film, but things I've noticed other D3 programs sharing include:
Returning starters/key players
Key transfers
Highlight some freshmen (UMU Wrestling as already done this)
Countdown to Kickoff
Highlights from last year or practice this year
Stats from last year to note
Connect with the local newspaper

Those are all basic things that high school programs do.... create some excitement or hype!

Speaking of transfer, I had a friend tell me that Carson Dyrlund, a former local HS (Hoover) QB who went D2 (Northwood) is now at Mount. I think he was an athletic QB with a decent arm.

If you asked Dartt/his handlers...The Standard is The Standard.  No need for any excitement, or hype in Alliance.  Despite not winning a title for nearly a decade, all is well in the boring, unimaginative land of Mount football.  I mean he's won 94% of his games!!

ughh

I can only speak for myself, but every year my interest in the football program fades a little.  If you go back to the LK/VK days I was watching everything I could to try to learn about the next group of studs coming.  I would go to JV games LOL.  One year I was in PA for work and stopped at W&J and watched the scrimmage in a suit (sweating my a$$ off).  Now I watch all the games, but I don't have the passion I used to.  And it's not an aging thing because my passion is still there it has just migrated over to the men's hoops program.  Baseball will always be my first love, but hoops is easily my #2 now.  That bums me out a little.

While I remain interested and a season ticket holder, my enthusiasm and expectations have diminished. I closely follow the Buckeyes as I always have, but more so than 10 years ago. No interest in the Browns. Mount does not have an inspirational HC and I am being kind. Wonder how the recruiting is really going in the last several years. My guess is that those players are motivated to come to Mount for the reputation not really the leadership. So many little things we are used to from prior years are not there any longer.

We all knew that it would come to an end.  Too bad it had to happen this way.  Geoff is a good guy, but, unfortunately, (in my opinion) he is not a Mount Union (glory days) caliber coach. So it goes.  He needs an OC.
Reloading--Again, and again, and again....

I think any funeral planning for Mount Union football are a little pre-mature.  It doesn't look like Dartt as HC and OC is likely to work, nor does it seem like anyone but the fans are looking for an OC...but Mount is still a top D3FB program.  It's a definite drop down from the perch Mount was once on, but it's still pretty much Mount Union and some other program year in and year out.  It'll be interesting to see how the COVID seniors finally graduating will shape D3.

here's to hoping that Toledo has the fantastic football season that they are set up for, Candle and VK will be hot names on the coaching carousel.  Maybe VK can bring his 94% winning bro-in-law in for a "promotion"

Mount Union is absolutely a top D3FB program!

Some things never change.  Another Thanksgiving dinner quickly approaches at the Larry Kehres  household, and the seating arrangements will be the same again this year.  The family members that have won a national championship and their spouses at the main table and Coach Dartt once again eating his turkey on the folding card table with the kids while seated on a very uncomfortable folding chair.
Will he EVER get moved up to the big table with all the other National Championship coaches or is he doomed the rest of his career to consume his turkey dinner at the folding card table with the kids?
I wish someone knew the answer!

we don't have an official roster, but we have instagram videos from the Mount/W&J joint practice

sure looks like Shaun Thomas (#25) running around for the Raiders

I really only want one more thing from this program and that's to watch them play in a Canton Stagg Bowl!

And I'll take the opposite tack and say, while it's not as fun as the glory days, it's certainly a much less predictable era of D3 football than what we experienced from 2005 to 2011 where we could pencil in the Stagg bowl participants in pre-season.

I've also come to appreciate amateur college football more, now that FBS has become so much more professionalized with NIL, transfer portal etc.

In all honesty this is the most excited I've been at the beginning of a season since probably 2019... here's why

#1) This is the best OOC schedule we've had since I can remember, we're opening with two playoff caliber opponents ranked in the top 25 in Grove City and Wheaton

#2) We have a new era under center in Mikey Maloney who had a more decorated high school career than any QB recruit we've had in as along as I can remember (2X all state at a D2 high school is no joke)

#3) We've got the opportunity to play for a CANTON STAGG BOWL, which I'm fairly confident would set attendance records ... well depending on January weather

#4) The only team we lost to in 21,22 and 24 (or 25 depending on how you label it)  is facing a bigger rebuild than they've had in 5 years losing their 2 time Gagliardi QB and key Oline members

Go Raiders!

there may or may not have been a Zach Liebler sighting at Mount photo day, he may or may not be #10 this season

Lou Berry looks to be coaching CB's for the Raiders, probably a good thing that JCU ran off to the NCAC.  Might be a bit traumatic to see Lou in Mount Union Stadium again

The UC baseball transfer (Ehrhardt?) is slotted in at LB (#23)

DEEP exhale. Phew. All American in waiting.

quite a bit of new faces in the black, returning letterman jerseys... the roster, when posted, will be interesting.  Maloney is not going to be short on weapons as a first year QB.

Also, it's about time for the broccoli haircut to go away. Hard to look like a tough football player when you look like an absolute doofus

I'm so glad I saw that play in person, one of my favorite UMU football memories.

in a program with 13 national titles, 452 conference titles....that play is an all-timer

I am in so much better of a place with Mount 2025 today, than I was yesterday.  A lot, a lot of questions were answered.  It really will all come down to coaching.  At least we'll know early
