MUC 2008

Mount football's X (formerly Twitter) feed announced tomorrow is a/the blackout game.

I think the major issue (besides needing more passes to the TE) is tackling.  Someone else said it, that they get to the ball carrier, but they don't bring him down. Berg, BW, ONU, these guys can play.  We need more gang tackling, and  less misses.  I do appreciate the turnovers though.  The linebackers are fast, and they can tackle, but they need get to the gap sooner.  They wait for the back to get through the hole at top speed, and thats a much tougher tackle.
Any W.I.N is a B.F.D

Quote from: Desertraider on October 24, 2025, 05:42:39 AMI think ONU will be a test for Mount. They have not come out fast, and played clean for the half yet. The berg game saw 2 quick drives for TDs followed by 1.5 quarters of sleep-walking. Then, they pretty much did it again in 2nd half.
Need to see Mount play at tempo and execute for 4 quarters (i will take 2 strong ones!). And on D they need to tackle. It looks like they run into the ball carrier, hold him up, and try to grab the ball. They may get a strip here or there / but every play is 5, 6, 7 YAC. Makes it impossible to get off the field on 3rd downs. Not saying this is a plague of toads game - but it could be a reality check.

Logan Hansen has ONU ranked 34th, that's only a few slots behind BW (28th)

There are a some Mount fans that think BW is the best team Mount has played.  Tomorrow should show a lot about the Purple Raiders

Dr. Acula

Are there people in my lifetime who have ever thought BW is the best team Mount has played?  That can't be true.  We're taking about the peak sliver above mediocrity in Berea.  It's their tradition.

Quote from: Raider 68 on October 22, 2025, 09:37:10 AMI expect the Mount/ONU to be competitive. ONU is much better than recent years. My concern this year is the Raider defense. Just not as strong as recent years, and if they win the conference the offense will have to carry them in the playoffs. I remember how Wartburg just shredded the Mount defense two years ago. The defensive talent and size this year is limited. IMHO
Granted it is only the end of the
1st qtr, but you were talking just
about that first offensive series and not the whole game, right?
38 yard field goal, 17-0 Mount, beginning of 2nd.
20-0 @ half

mucgrad06

sleep walked the 2nd quarter again.....

Snapping the ball with under 5 on the play clock...why?  Mount is soo much better playing with pace, but instead they slow it down to a snails pace for some reason

mucgrad06

I feel as if by shoring up there pass defense, the run defense has been lacking.

49 offensive plays...ugh.  so conservative, I guess take the win and move on...but ugh

Well ONU wasnt a test but Mount wasnt dominant either. It concerns me that they have not played a complete half yet this season. The 2nd qtr used to be high octane full throttle. Now its construction zone and brake lights. Not sure what we are waiting on but i think it will hurt us - AGAIN - in the playoffs.

the first half of Wheaton was a complete first half (3 quarters really), Mount really beat the brakes off of GCC after the first drive of the game.  But I agree, it seems like Mount is falling into the same sort of behaviors that they have in the past 4 or 5 years.  When they are playing with purpose, pace and energy they look like a national championship contender...but then all of a sudden, they switch into a slowed down, conservative, play to the level of competition mode.  It's not going to cost them against any of these OAC teams, but it keeps the starters in the game longer and injuries creep in, momentum slows, etc, etc.

I guess, Mount really has nothing left to play for, they are going to be pretty much locked into the #2 or #3 overall NPI spot.  If the plan is to get through the regular season and use the playoff bye-week to regroup, recalibrate, whatever...then I guess there are two ways to get there.  A) Blow teams out as soon as possible and get the starters out or B) slow the game down to a snails pace and limit the total number of plays

re-watching the ONU game

maybe Mount should have tried the free t-shirt or pizza idea, were all of the students on campus studying or something?

good to see Lavelle back healthy at C, but boy did he has a rough game.  a bunch of high snaps and a couple of really bad missed blocks...maybe he needed another week off.

The offensive skill guys seemed to be visibly frustrated with the methodical pace starting in the 2nd quarter.

Just a mess of play calling after the 1st quarter whistle.  Minner's long TD run made things look a lot better

that OAC referee crew was less than ideal, just an embarrassing level of "D3ref" all over

Cockrell has to catch the ball, he's probably dropped 3-4 for sure TD's (conservatively)

has Mount ever had an All-American punter?  Franklin has to get a shot, despite the lack of work

Only 2385 in attendance, that is pretty light for a good OAC opponent. Weather was decent on Saturday too.
