Mount's official football X (Twitter) account says Saturday is a blackout game.

hopefully the seven townies and football dads in the student section get the memo

Nah it'll be a decent crowd (for the playoffs anyway) last year's round 2 matchup against CMU had about 2500 in attendance, unless weather is truly terrible we should match that number.

I will say, I understand the weather factor but it blows my mind that Mount's playoff attendance is so much worse than regular season considering that they are so much better matchups. I pretty much only come to playoff games!

2500 for Mount-JCU in the playoffs would be highly disappointing/embarrassing.  It should be 2x, maybe almost 3x that.  Maybe the school/athletic office/alumni dept has a plan for Saturday and I just haven't heard anything about it.  It's super sad.  Mount will never have the giant crowds of the public WI schools, but the players deserve more than what there has been in the stands this year.

Agreed that it's disappointing, but definitely not embarrassing since it would be towards the higher end of a typical playoff crowd.

It's just getting hard to compete with high quality online streaming, not to mention the two schools have smaller enrollments.

I will say the 2014 playoff matchup had a crowd of nearly 5,000 so maybe this year it'll get upwards of 3,000 , hard to tell.

Last year's 1800 ish is a bit of an outlier since it was thanksgiving week and even FCS schools can't get any attendance that weekend.

WRMUalum13

Okay, did some lunchtime figuring using the sophisticated "estimate the number of blue dots and xs" on the hometown ticketing app, and from what I can tell about 1100 tickets have already been sold on just the home side

Sections 4, 5 and 6 all seemed to be 80-90% full already. So that could be a good sign for attendance.

oh, it's embarrassing.  I highly doubt that the lack of attendance is due to big time Purple Raiders fans and alum watching on their big screens instead of buying a ticket.  Mount students/fans are extremely spoiled, and at the risk of sounding like an old, this new generation sucks.  JCU is bringing buses of fans down, Mount could never

I will be a "+1" to the normal expected attendance, coming up from Maryland. I am an "X" in Section 4.
Last four games I have attended have been playoffs (to include Stagg Bowls), when the game puts the Purple Raiders on the road (DelVal and Salisbury). I have use or lose" leave, so I am hoping the local travel weather getting out of here in the morning is not as bad as forecast. About to go get new tires (would kick that can down the road if not planning to come up to Alliance), so that makes it a pricier ticket than my warm home office and the ESPN+ that I have already paid for.
GO RAIDERS!!!

To be fair, they're only bringing busses because the typical JCU fan would get lost on the way to Alliance if they had to navigate the nearly 55 mile journey there themselves!

(Sorry JCU fans, you know we love you! I just couldn't resist)

I love joking about JCU as much as the next guy.  But I really hope that the Gulling parking lot is more full of tailgaters/students/fans than the visitor lot half a mile down State St.  The Blue Streak fans are coming, I just hope home field doesn't get lost

Well, I have to give you this much, you finally got smart enough to get out of the OAC because you got tired your arss being handed to you every year, so you sneak into the playoffs through the back door by joining the cupcake league. At least you can sniff the playoffs now. If that's what you call "academic superiority, you got it!

The rest is just window dressing! :o
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

D3fanboy

congrats to Mount alum Mike Elder on leading Avon to back to back D2 state titles

raiderpa

Since the first match-up at Brush stadium, I have attended every Mount-JCU game.  No matter the record, I consider the Blue Streaks the best current rival of the Raiders. We have won a couple miraculously, with fourth down catches and overtime classics. I will never tire of seeing these two teams on the field together. Every game brings excitement and a test of fan loyalty. Elder wins another state championship at Avon, but bigger headline this morning is Matt Campbell being courted very strongly by Penn State.  One publication stated if the Nittany Lions get Campbell it would be the best coaching hire of this wild fall.  I would love to see him take it, but it will be no surprise if he doesn't. PSU lost numerous recruiting targets and this class will be practically a total loss.  Not a good way to start your tenure. Selfishly, I hope he goes to State College of given the opportunity.

D3fanboy

jobs at Penn State's level don't come open very often.  Either way, Mr. Campbell is going to be getting quite the pay raise.  I wonder if Iowa State would go lurking around the Toledo program once again....

I tired to watch JCU as much as I could during the season and I watched the game against Randolph Macon.  I cant say that the Streaks are any different this year, than any other year.  They are talented and play fundamentally sound football, but the game plan, players and strategies seem the same.  Obviously, Montgomery is a major talent, and catches a ton of passes, but I'm not sure it will be enough.  I think JCU's running game will be almost non-existent, after the first quarter.  I think our defense is maturing and coming together at the right time.

Mount will bring a level of speed and consistency they have not faced since Johns Hopkins.  I expect a tight first quarter, maybe something like 7-7, then I expect the Mount offense to take advantage of some field position set up by the defense.  I look for a 28-7 halftime, and a 49-21 final.  With JCU's last 7 coming with under a minute left.

Be careful when throwing around academic superiority...JCU got their act together after receiving 'notice' in 2015 from the HLC. Notice lifted in 2017, so as Ryan Day learned, humility is the best policy.

Should be an interesting game Saturday between two academic beacons  :)
