Uninspired effort from the Purple Raiders.  Marietta played harder with the less athletic team.  MU's line provided good pass protection most of the time, but play calling didn't seem to capitalize on qb and wideouts skills.  Mount's secondary not elite, but 9-0 isn't bad.

I feel like when there were opportunities on offense today, the throw was off, dropped balls or missed blocks/reads... just not crisp at all. I feel like we need to get Maloney back on the move with RPO, but his runs today seemed predetermined.

Defense and special teams were also Jekyl and Hyde today. Like previously stated, we saw a much more prepared team weeks one and two of the season. Now it's not easy to win come playoff time, but there are many things that need cleaned up to win vs teams you'll face after round one....

In other news, I'm disappointed in BW...... it's too bad we couldn't see them play JCU in the playoffs....

I hold your sentiments on the matter.

I'm just going by the eye test, but it seems like the Mount offense has really lacked the precision that we saw in the first few weeks since they have really slowed things down in the past couple of weeks.  When the Raiders are playing with a little pace offensively, they seem to click much much better.  Lately, there has been a lot of standing around, getting the play call in at 15 sec or so on the play clock and snapping with under 5 sec.

and can we please throw that extreme delayed HB draw play in the garbage?

Anyone know what happened at the end of the BW ONU game with the BW coaches?

Per the D3fb podcast, Pat and other top 25 voters have dropped Mount to 3 or 4 in their top 25, due to Mount's struggles over the past few weeks.

that's pretty generous.  Championship contenders should be getting better as the season progresses, trending upward...the Geoff Dartt led Purple Raiders look to be stagnant at best, if not sliding the wrong direction

At the moment they look more likely to get Alma'd at home in the 2nd round than be playing in Canton.

imagine if Adrian gets in and sent to Alliance....

I'm hopeful that we get a focused, prepared and high effort performance on Saturday, but I don't think that there's any indication that will happen unfortunately.

Something interesting in the stat line from Saturday was Mount Union's 11 Penalties to Mariettas 2

Over 1/2 of those penalties weren't even subjective calls that you can blame on home field advantage:
3 false starts
2 offsides
1 illegal formation

That's a really bad indicator

a false start by the outside WR on 4th and GL at the 1 led to the blocked FG to end the first half, very Browns-esque.  Keeps an embarrassing first half at 17-13 instead of 24-13

then in the 4th quarter, we witnessed Geoff Stefanski football.  Mount's played a terrible game, but still up 11  and set up at the Marietta 15 with 5 mins left in the game.  A TD makes it 37-19 and ends it.
- We get a 3 yard rush up the middle to make it 2nd and 7, no big deal.  But then the fun starts.
- We get another WR false start (now 2nd&12 at the 20), then a crack back penalty on another WR taking us back to 2nd and 28 at the 33.
- Next the play call comes in late (shocking!) and Maloney hurries the boys up to the LOS, the extreme delay HB draw that has literally never fooled anybody is the call that took 20 seconds to make and Mount takes a 9 yard loss.
- its now 3rd and 37 at the 42, once again the play call takes all day, Mount subs late and takes a delay of game
- 3rd and 42 now at the 47... Minner gets 14
- 4th down, take a delay of game to get Franklin some room.  The should be all-american punter hits a beauty with a sideways bounce out of bounds at the 5....but wait another flag.  Illegal shift on Mount, it looks like one of the guys wasn't set at the snap.
- repeating 4th down....another flag.  False start on a gunner
- a 3rd try to punt the ball, and luckily Franklin is a damn good D3 punter, he puts it out of bounds at the 12

I get that players make mistakes and we're dealing with young men, but if "the standard is the standard" is your weekly lip service after each subpar performance, what exactly is "the standard" these days?  it's certainly not the Mount Union of old.  It's not precision, it's not preparation, it's not grit, it's not energy, Mount gets out-classed in those categories weekly in-conference.  Thankfully, Mount is vastly more talented than anyone else in the OAC.   Is "the standard" simply winning a watered down OAC?  Mount is just not a serious football team at this moment.

There aren't many teams that Mount will be "out-talented" by, but unless you believe that the Raiders are saving all the good stuff for the playoffs...Mount is likely to be out-coached by dozens.  I guess there is a reason why Mount went from losing coach after coach to bigger jobs and programs, that we have had the same staff more or less for years and years.

I remember watching the Wartburg at Mount Union semifinal game with my dad a few years ago and Mount got to the 1-yard line for first and goal. I told my dad that Coach Brain Fart is going to have Plunk throw a corner fade and get it picked off. Sure enough. That is exactly what happened.

I emailed the Coach and he clearly had a thin skin about it. If you cannot get one yard in four tries, you are not winning a title. If I knew that play was coming and the Wartburg coaches knew it was coming, who messed up? I will wait. Coach Brain Fart and I have the same number of national championships as a coach. Zero! Mic drop.
