Mount hasn't lost back to back games since 77.....BW won the championship in 78..... I swear if Mount screwed up the timeline and BW wins the Stagg next year, I'm going to be officially mad

Not surprised by the result. Wheaton was due. The Color man for the game Doug Fairchild, I think, was one of the best I have heard for his knowledge of the game at any level!

I believe the Wheaton analyst is an NFL veteran and a frequent poster on d3boards.  He's really good.

Definitely not a catch though it should have been.  You can't see it on the video on X but the ball was on Deandre Caldwell's body as he lands on the ground but wasnt secured. When he rolls to his right side the official who puts up the TD sign is block by the defender's body. As Caldwell roll to his right side he is trying to bring the ball up from his waist area and as he rolls the ball comes in contact with the ground as he secures with is right arm and shoulder. This one was challenged by Dartt and was upheld via replay.

Caldwell dropped two other TD's by my count. A slant in the early 2nd quarter would have been a 65 yd TD, hit him in the hands and then a long skinny post where Maloney threw a great ball and Caldwell tried to one hand it when he should have used both hands (and easily could have). That kid's gonna be good but he didn't help his QB on Saturday as he should have had 3 TD's.

They sure did love Geoff Dart.  I think I have found a place for Purple's Dartt fan club merch he is going to be stuck with.  Send extras for the head coach that was there when Dartt coached at Wheaton.  They sure had a lot of nice things to say that some Mount people just don't see.
Conspiracy theory with him coaching at Wheaton, all the great things the announcers said about him and Mounts poor play yesterday?  Conspiracy theorists forget I even mentioned it...

it's too bad Pat wasn't there for the long pass "completion" on 4th down late in the 2nd.  I applaud the idea of instant review challenges in D3FB, but they are really pretty useless with one camera view that is hundreds of feet away in a fixed position.  I am in no way blaming the refs for Mount Union's complete failure to show up on Saturday, but c'mon nobody could "see" what happened on either challenged play.

and yes, 12 needs to spend the entire week on the jugs machine.  Can't be covered and can't catch

slow it down to 0.25x and try to take a definitive screenshot of the Wheaton player making the catch a foot in and nothing out of bounds.  It was called incomplete on the field, so it would have to be conclusive evidence to overturn the call.  Seems like a tall ask for D3 refs looking at an ipad, on a folding table, in a tailgate tent.

Once again, Mount played like garbage and deserved the loss, but that one singular call was worth 3 points in a 1 point game. 

D3FB is not the NFL or major college football with multiple camera angles and super hi-def.  I don't know how any call is overturned in a typical D3 game, unless it is complete egregious

Yep, can't make a determination on this particular play but I will note that generally the officials are going to have more than just this angle to look at -- the coaches' video is supposed to be accessible to them as well.

I know you are doing your thing in ragging on the technology used, but not sure what impact the type of table is going to have.

I love technology.  My cellular telephone device flips to make it half of the normal size, you should try it. 

the table just shows how janky the whole thing is.  (btw, that looked like a really strong table) D3 "replay booths" in barns and tailgate tents, cmon.  Perhaps the coaches' film from 100 yards away and 20 feet up picked up the Wheaton WR making an incredible toe-tapping catch with his white shoes on the white sideline.  Wheaton must have those really high-def cameras.

IMO, replay with ESPN or multi-cam set-ups is outstanding.  Probably will help with targeting calls, clarity, etc.  But most D3 games are far, far from the cameras needed to override the typically horrible D3FB refs who are feet away from the play

Which one of you will be the first to credit Wheaton? Seems I read that the difference between these two teams was 66-7 or something of that sort before the game. (Hat top to the guy who called out that ridiculous take.)

This was a game that was fairly even. Except this time it was Mount Union who had to make the long bus trip into unfamiliar territory. Both teams made mistakes. Both teams had bunches of newbies in the lineup.

Mount Union hurt themselves with tons of undisciplined penalties. Wheaton hurt themselves with red zone turnovers. You're going to see what you want to see on the overturned catch at the 4. I was surprised it was overturned, but not  shocked. It was that close.

If #12 could catch the ball, Mount Union has three more touchdowns. If Wheaton finishes off drives into the red zone, there's two more scores.

It was a classic football game between two very good teams that should be playing ball into November and probably December as well.

Coaches film is available to the refs which is three different angles. There is also the Webcast replay. Wheaton coaches have sideline camera and both endzone cameras. I have seen all the tape and the Caldwell play in the endzone was definitely not a catch and the Kortenhoeven 4th and 4 play was questionable at best (the endzone camera is a pretty good look. Don't think there was anywhere near enough evidence to overturn that one).
