Big changes in Decatur, Coach Neuiber resigned today.

Reason? ???  I assume that a press release/official public announcement will be made later today.

The D3 answer from Monmouth qb Alex Tanney: not bad!

That video has been on our front page for about a week. Why link to Yahoo?

Because my post was related to the QB from UConn a week or so prior to Tanneys.

In the past if there is an article or topic of interest that is also on the D3Football site, I will post a link to it.  D3Football is not going to have a page about the UConn QB.  Tanneys came significantly after that...

Interesting.  The article is kind of cryptic.

Thanks for the link.  From the tone of the comments in that newspaper article, it appears there were some underlying "issues", although it is obviously not clear what those were (the obvious guess is the W-L record in recent years, however I suspect it went deeper than that, although I could be wrong) and whether the resignation was Neuibur's personal choice or if he was asked/suggested/forced to resign and/or if it was a mutual decision.  Regardless, I think it is a little strange that they waited until 3 months i.e. essentially to March after the conclusion of this past season to do this, particularly after, no doubt, there has been some recruiting and candidates perhaps basing their decision to go to Millikin because of Neuiber.  On the other hand, making a change now is better than in late June or July (i.e. at the last minute) as some schools/coaches have done in the past, which is really a disaster for a school's program in many ways.  However, as it appears from the article that the current assistants on the staff will be able to stay on if they choose.  That should help in the transition and also with any of the new recruits they've been in contact with during that process this winter.  Of course, whoever is selected as the new head coach might want to bring in some of his own assistants...that will become known in the near future obviously.

Mugsy,
He was talking to me.  I had a Yahoo link to Tanney's video, but I went back and changed it after he pointed out that it was on the D3Football home page.

My son has a lot of respect for coach neibur, especially as a man. and is a little dazed by the whole thing. As for the late decision, they seem to have pulled out  a big broom here, football, basketball, 2 soccer coaches have all been let go in the past few months. The delay is a bit of a puzzlement, unless it has something to do with the new president, but that is just me speculating. I am concerned about recruiting and the possible impact that the change will have.

According to FootballScoop Millikin D Coordinator going to La Verne in CA as their new head coach.

That would be Chris Krich.  Interesting - a number of these guys (i.e. various assistant coaches from various programs leaving the Midwest and going out west, although I guess not all that surprising, since they have "western origins" and connections.  According to his bio on Millikin's website, Krich played in college at DII Mesa State in Colorado, was an assistant at Fort Hayes State in Kansas before he was the Assist. Head Coach at Lakeland (WI) prior to going to Millikin.  Also, Kyle Sweeney, as you have already read on d3fb.com has left Univ of Chicago to be the head coach at DIII C-M-S in Calif.  Yet, he is originally from CA and played fb in college at Occidental before he headed to the Midwest and was McMurrary's Head Coach before going to U of Chicago.

He obviously had trouble keeping his players away from the tremendous bar scene that is Decatur.

Nah just about right for a green weenie  ;D By the way there are some very nice establishments in the downtown area, if you know where to look. The Lock Stock & Barrel is also very nice.

I too recommend Lock Stock & Barrel for pre- or post-game activities in Decatur.  They make a nice pork tenderloin sandwich!  (Good pork tenderloin sandwiches are hard to find in the Chicago area)

Pat Coleman

Understandable, I guess. That's not really Chicago's tender sandwich meat of choice. :)
