New Tradition

Hope everyone is having a wonderful afternoon.  I wanted to jump on here and comment about an interaction I had last night with some members of the Elmhurst football team.  It was a beautiful night and I was walking my dog (he's quite large and could, at times, be mistaken for a small horse) through the EC campus with some friends when a group of players asked if they could pet my dog.  Of course I obliged and they made small talk.  Now, (I think) I don't look that much older than they do and was wearing a cut off and basketball shorts, certainly not dressed to impress anyone, but they answered every single question I asked with "Yes, sir" or "No, sir."  When I steered the conversation towards football, the very next words out of their mouths were inviting me to come watch them play this weekend.  It was finally, at that point, that I revealed my past and allegiance, but thanked them for the offer and told them I'd see them when Elmhurst played NCC.  Those kids exemplified everything that I ever hope to see when I encounter a D3 football player.  They were humble, kind, and courteous to a complete stranger.  Hats off to them for representing their program and D3 football with class!

Not only were they engaging and polite, New, but they also obviously respected your grandfatherly
stature.  ;D

Good story New. I'm guessing that if you walked your dog by most D3 institutions you would have a similar experience. Good to hear that you had it when walking by a  CCIW school. Kudos to Elmhurst.

Of course, it doesn't hurt your reception if the dog you're walking is the size of a small horse! ;D

"Vision in Action"  is one of the pillars of character faith Elmhurst likes to install into their community.   Most Division III personnel I have met over the years are humble, courteous people.  Glad you had a good experience Grant.   Be Kind to thy Neighbor- wish this would be the mojo everywhere in the world.   :-\

NPU was up 13-9 in the third quarter when it all fell apart. Jordan Smith, MU's 6'4 wideout, was the difference in the game (six catches, 123 yards, 2 TDs). The Big Blue, which had no sacks at the half, sacked Anthony DiNardo eight times in the second half.

What an incredible finish to the game in Wheaton.  Bauer was sacked with no time (and no time-outs) to get another chance; Wheaton wins!  BUT, hold the bus ... someone from Wheaton had called a TO before the play!  Given a second chance after all, Bauer to Walsh (on a GREAT one-handed grab while falling out of bounds) gave the Titans an absolutely unforgettable ending to the game. ;D

This one should live on in Titan lore like Gramkow's game-winning shot in the last basketball game IWU/ISU ever played! ;D

Someone with better computer skills than I have needs to send in Walsh's TD catch to d3football.com for Play-of-the-Week consideration.

Great win by IWU.  First W for the titans at Wheaton since 1996.

Wowza, Titans over WC, 14-10.  Sounds like a miraculous finish.  Gotta love that Titan D and that Titan RB.  Bauer is money at the end.

Who would have thunk it -- Titans 4-1 after their run of five opening seasons games.

Keep it rolling TITANS, no let down.
