Quote from: GusD on October 25, 2025, 06:41:57 PM** And speaking of field goals——————-NCC's Aidan Ellison hit on a very impressive 48 yarder in the first quarter. Then, on the last play of the first half, he outdid himself as he booted one through the uprights from 57 yards out! Talk about a valuable weapon. I doubt you'll see many 57 yard field goals in the D3 ranks.

Longest in D-III in three years!

Players of the week

OPOW - NCC WR Skokna for the 2nd time
DPOW - Wheaton LB Harris
STPOW - IWU WR Nazha

Sorry, but I think a 57 yard FG should have been enough to at least make NCC's Aidan Ellison the CO STPOW.  JMHO  :(

Quote from: CarollFan on October 27, 2025, 11:06:46 AMI didn't get a chance to watch the WashU @ Wheaton game.

Looking at the replay looks like WashU had a drive late in the 4rth deep into Wheaton territory but a pick sealed the win for Wheaton.

It was a really good game. WashU played very well and Wheaton got it done when they needed to. WashU had the lead going into the 4th.  Wheaton scored right away.

WashU final drive got inside the 30.  Moore got arm hit as he threw and it was picked off.

It looks like Wheaton's NPI won't change much the rest of the way. I think they play teams that mostly hurt their NPI but since you only need to count the best 5 wins those shouldn't have much impact. As such, it looks like if Wheaton is able to win out, they are solidly in the playoffs and the only question is how much carnage happens around them to affect their seed. Logan Hansen gives them a high probability of a home game in round 1, which would be cool.

Separately, what's with Peter Johnanik's jersey number? Half the time he is #54 (as he is listed on the roster) and half the time he wears #3. He seems to wear #3 when Wheaton has white or orange jersey's and #54 when they wear blue.

Looks like NCC is locked into the #4 spot unless teams ahead of them lose.

WashU is not a lock yet for the Isthmus bowl. Augie is the other team still in that race.

The 2 games this week that have the potential for being close are IWU @ Augie and Carthage @ NPU.

I've noticed this with NCC as well.  Cortez Jones has been wearing #50 in white and #52 in red.  Gabriel Gyorgy wears #20 in white and #24 in red.  It's hard enough to follow who is who when they have freshman dress and wear different #s too. David Ballard switched from #84 to #5 this week and freshman Chase Osborne was wearing #6. #6 was worn by starting safety Ethan Enriquz so I am wondering if his injury against WashU was season ending.

According to Logan's NPI tool, NCC is more likely to finish #5.  They will get jumped by the Christopher Newport/Salisbury winner unless a series of things happen. They need Salisbury to win that matchup, Oshkosh to finish 6-4 or better (doubtful IMO), and Washington and Lee to finish 6-4 or worse.  If Christopher Newport goes 10-0, NCC will not finish with a higher NPI (unless Oshkosh wins out).

UWO is 4-3 and still has to play UWP and UWW so yes they most likely are looking at 5-5.

USee

I generally like the new NPI system as it takes away some of the variance due to subjectivity of different committee's year over year. That said I think the biggest drawback is the lack of mechanism to reward top teams with higher seeds.  I'm ok with Mt Union as a 1 seed and NCC as a 2 seed (though common result would argue that) but NCC at a 5 seed is totally ridiculous.

NCC2010

I'll take NPI over what the committee did with the bracket in 2023.  #5 seed is what NCC was last year as well so maybe it's a lucky spot for them...

If the bracket plays out

1. Johns Hopkins
2. Mount Union
3. Wartburg
4. Salisbury
5. NCC

I would consider that a pretty good draw for NCC, even with them potentially going on the road in the quarters and semis.

I like it a lot less if it plays out with Christopher Newport #3 and NCC traveling to #4 Wartburg in the quarters.

It will be interesting to see what updates if any are done to the NPI formula.

Right now if you dive into the individual game NPI's, the formula says an away win against a sub 500 team is better then a home win against a 1 loss team. That's just not right, no matter how tough it is to win on the road.

I used an example earlier on Bethel beating Gustavus (3-4) on the road and St. John's (6-1)at home and it still holds true that the game NPI for Gustavus win is higher.

I haven't checked every team but I would guess the majority of teams top game NPI is an away game.

What if Wesleyan beats Augie and Augie beats WashU?  I have not played that scenario out yet.

Kudos to Carthage this year.  Much improved team.
