Prineville! That's about as close to McMinnville as Honolulu.

Better like the hunting and fishing.

So had she!

Prineville is the hometown of Linfield College legend, Professor Vince Jacobs though, and that makes it good. It isn't that far from Mac either.
Saturday will be the most epic tailgate ever, especially if my wife gives birth under the Quick-Shade.

Orca Jr.

It's not forever away, but it is a solid four hours if not a little longer depending on traffic

Just funnin' ya'll.
I love the Great Basin.
Prineville will look like Bend in about 20 years with it's own little farm labor neighborhoods.
Oh! and good luck getting to McMinnville on a Friday night when snow closes the passes.
OK, OK, can I ding my own karma?

Those Boys over in the Prineville/Bend area seem to have a few more pounds on their bones and are pretty good football players.  Maybe with #45 over in that neck of the woods it will be good for future recruiting for the Cats and we can pick up a few of those boys thinking about going to Boise State.

You are kidding right? Linfield and Boise are not competing (realistically) for the same athletes.  BSU is in Division 1. Linfield is in Division 3. While I would love Linfield to get Boise's athletes, the competition probably isn't that heated.

Wow, some fun reading catching up on this board over the last ten days or so (was out on vacation).

I found it interesting that there was so little reaction to the preseason poll.  Certainly Linfield deserves the top spot, in spite of all the recent grads and changes.  But it looks like Whitworth was a consensus #2 choice, and I thought River or some other Willamette fans would have something to say about that.  The Bearcats finished second last year and return a bunch of players.

Also, I was really interested in the statements about Football being the Soul/Heart of Linfield over the last 50 years.  Wow, that is pretty strong.

Assuming that there is mutual agreement over the benefits of such an identity (outstanding teams, coaches, facilities for football over the last 50+ years), what has Linfield sacrificed?

I found the statement especially interesting because it came from a board poster (Beancounter) who, imo, is one of the more balanced voices heard here.

Pine, you'll have to wait for a few weeks before the Linfield game for any Pearcat fans to show up.  It's become an annual tradition...they come on and talk smack and then go away after they lose to Linfield.

......what has Linfield sacrificed?

Nothing......Linfield is much more than football but make no doubt that the program is a tree that bears much fruit for the Linfield community.

Wildcat'64,
I took a look at the Webcam today,  and it looks like they put the camera in my seat! Or maybe it's bluenotes seat.  ;)

Any way, You know you "LOVE" Linfield and small College Football when you have seats on the 50 yard line and have a post in your way when the Cats get down close to the end zone! I love that place! ;D            K+ to all the Cat fans today!

Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Football at Linfield doesn't detract at all from the school. I believe it is one of the greatest positive influences. How many schools have numerous alumni from the middle of the century coming back to homecoming every year? Look no further than the massive donation made last year from Del Smith in support of athletics in general. It boosts applications and enrollment, provides national recognition, and perhaps most importantly, gives us a reason to waste countless hours reading the boards.

Wildcat11, I do remember now that River seems to be the only Bearcat around during most of the season.

Regarding my other question - EVERY school gives up something based on what it determines to be its identiy.  I certainly could go into a list of things I think Whitworth sacrifices based on what I see as its chosen identity.  No school is perfect.  Every student must make the best decision for him/herself, based on what they are comfortable with in a school.

Certainly Linfield has strong areas outside of football, including academics.  I don't in any way mean to hint otherwise.

Would all of the Linfield school presidents who have served over the last 50+ years share the same perception that football is Linfield's heart/soul?

Of course not...but good luck getting some of posters on here to admit that.  ;)

Tux,

I just checked the webcam to see if you were in your seat today waiting for the kickoff (looks like it's a little cloudy today at the Catdome)....you seemed to be missing in from your seat so I have to assume that you're out in the Keck parking lot practicing your Tailgating Techniques.

I thought we decided last year at the Homecoming Tailgater to bring a chain saw this year and take care of that post on that is in your way... Don't want to miss one second of the action as the Cats are flying across the goal line!

GO CATS - LEAVE NO DOUBT AGAIN IN '06!

I don't think football is necessarily the heart and soul of the entire Linfield community.  Keep in mind who you are in dialogue with in here (who else is talking D3 football in early August?).   It is obviously has a large and postive impact on the college but there are a significant number of students and alums who do not follow football closely.

It would be interesting to see what the following would be if Linfield was in an urban setting.  I've always thought the small town environment has been an asset because the greater McMinnville community follows the team every fall.
