Welcome Island Cat,

For one second I thought your handle was "Long Island Ice Tea Cat".  Hope to see you down at Menlo.  I can't believe I'm going to that hell hole again but I just love the 'Cats too much to miss out.

For all those in Ashland tonight where is the gathering?

We are staying by the college at a Best Western... there will be another set of parents there as well... and we all love to Cat around

Careful with that Cat-ting around, or people will mistake you for Mike Kekich and Fritz Peterson.

CatDad,

I won't be there tonight but there are many good options in downtown Ashland.  The Standing Stone Brewing Company is suppose to be pretty solid and it's in the heart of the town.

As someone whose family takes a vacation to Ashland every year, I'd recommend against Standing Stone.  The food is decent and the beer is good, but it's horribly overpriced - they make you pay extra for fries.

My favorite two places are Louie's and Munchie's, both right downtown on the Plaza.  Both are family-style places.  Louie's has the best burgers in town and usually a game on TV, while Munchie's has everything from Mexican to all-day breakfast - and desserts that will blow your mind.

On that note would go with B-Press thoughts about grub in Ashland.  :)

One of the major daily papers in Hawaii, the Honolulu Advertiser, has a lengthy article on page 1 of its Sports section and on its website (including video of Coach Buckley) about DIII [my emphasis] Pacific University recruiting Hawaii athletes for its football program.  As WC11 likes to point out, the major Oregon paper rarely, if ever, covers the many Oregon DIII sports programs and only gives them very minor coverage.  :-[  Hawaii has no DIII football programs.

Following is the first few paragraphs of the article:

Pacific taps football pipeline in Hawaii
Division III Oregon school hopes strong Island ties help in reviving program

By Stanley Lee
Advertiser Staff Writer

Armed with a GPS, football coach Keith Buckley is hitting the recruiting trail an ocean and thousands of miles away from his Oregon campus.

He's ventured into the North Shore to visit Kahuku High School and drove up the hills and through the gates of Kamehameha Schools. There's been stops at Punahou, Saint Louis, and a dozen public and private schools. By the time Buckley leaves Honolulu on Sunday, he hopes to have seen 10 games this weekend and hopes players will have an inkling they can play at the next level.

Next fall, Pacific University, an NCAA Division III school located in Forest Grove, Ore., will field its first football team since 1991. . . .

Your best bet in Ashland for a great pub is The Black Sheep, way better than Standing Store.  The Black Sheep is located right downtown in the plaza.  Look for the giant red doors and head upstairs.

Here's hoping the Cats take it to SOU!!!I have enjoyed this week's reading.  It seems like forever since I was at the CatDome.  What fun that was!!  Maybe I'll win the lottery and be able to go to any football game I want.  That would be fantastic!!  Lycoming is coming down to BC tomorrow and it has been raining all day.  The stands will be very slippery if it continues to rain.  So I hope it stops!!  I would like the new hip to stay in place and not get jeopardized!  I would also like to see us win, but rainy field conditions does not help the faster team.  We've already lost our top 2 running backs and #3 got beat-up a bit last week.  So it will be interesting to see how things go.  So those of you who are tailgating tomorrow before the game, enjoy    the day for me and know that I am cheering for Linfield all the way!! :) :) :)

You had lots of links to articles this time, 11. My lips are tired from all that reading!

UPS over Whitewater? Did you let your dog smoke crack?

River, thanks for the link to the Advertiser article.
I want Pacific to be successful with their football program, but I don't want them to get all the good kids from Hawaii! Those are the first four schools I would have visited, too. Lots of familiar people and places in that article. I know there are plenty of island kids who attend Pacific, but 25% of the student enrollment seems high to me.

GO 'CATS!

GO BRIDGEWATER!

Thanks, Olinemom!

Nope, but our Maddy is one strange little Border Collie.  Not very good at the pick 'ems but has a strong game of "Fetch".

Aloha W11,
Is it cocktail time already? Yes, I'm so looking forward to the Menlo game, I can't wait. Just the opportunity to watch Wildcat football live is a treat, and of course hopefully watch #93 kick some butt.

I hope the webcast to this sat. game works, it'll be a great battle. This SOU team will be a formidable foe, we're not as big upfront (D-wise), but our speed should and will prevail.

Segue: As in the Hon. Advertiser, Hon. Star Bulletin has also given kudos to Island boys playing in D-I this year, and they always give props to other islanders playing on the "Mainland," and not only in football:
