Ypsi,

Any truth to this:

"The Ann Arbor News crime column reported that a man walked into a Burger King in Ypsilanti, Michigan, at 5 a.m., flashed a gun, and  demanded cash. The clerk turned him down because he said he couldn't open the cash register without a food order. When the man ordered onion rings, the clerk said they weren't available for breakfast. The man, frustrated, walked away."

Mr. Ypsi

Hoops Fan,

I haven't read that, but I wouldn't doubt it!  Ypsi is generally a pretty safe town (in most areas); apparently one of the reasons is that our bad guys are so freakin' stupid!

Greek Tragedy

I hope someone who is smart and has time posts either the Top 25 D3hoops results of each team or the Poster's Poll's results for each team so I have a clue what I'm doing come Monday (or Sunday night)!  ;D ???

Okay, here are the South Region ORV's

Maryville TN -- lost at Sewanee 1-5/4-9/5-11
and defeated Methodist.

Va Wesleyan -- won at Hampden-Sydney 68-53, defeated W&L at home 68-53 and plays Raonoke today.

Radar screen--

Howard Payne -- leading the ASC-West.  Nine game winning streak,  11-2/11-3/ 12-3.  Has win over D2 Texas A&M Commerce.

The ASC-West gets very little notice.  The division is brutally tough.  Most road trips are > 3 hours, with 2 nights on the road.

The net effect of the ASC tourney is to take the best team of the 16 (roughly 2 conferences).  When the ASC-West has made it out of the ASC post-season tourney, they have one Elite 8 and 2 Sweet 16 trips (all since 2000).

Mississippi College is solid this year.  They may sweep the ASC-East and finish the regular season 23-1.  The post-season tourney is on the West--at least a 10 hour bus trip for the Chocs.

Southwestern TX is problematic -- notable losses to Hardin-Simmons and to UMHB before their all-ASC point guard did not return for the spring semester.

Trinity has played a national schedule.  Either Trinity is not as good as we think, or Trinity is the "national ambassador"  (a little Texas bravado for y'all ;)) for the quality of D3Hoops played in Texas.

Let's limit the number of teams that we can vote for to 15, which will help ease the workload.  From that, we can fill out the remaining 10 in the "Top 25".

I maintain that there are not 25 top teams this week!

But, out of my dedication to my friends, I will try to complete a 25 team ballot! :-\

smedindy

Well, there are 25 teams who are better than the others. So there always will be a top 25 in the D-3 subset.

Mr. Ypsi

To update w4e's post, Carnegie Mellon, Randolph-Macon, and NYU all won today (though it took RMC overtime to beat a weak team).

To further update with teams that may be on someone's radar: Lincoln, Rochester, Trinity (TX), Virginia Weleyan, and Wash U all won (I didn't see any losing teams today that I think anyone would be likely to consider).

According to the ODAC board, RMC's best player, Wansley, was out today with a (hopefully minor) injury, if anyone wants to take that into account on needing OT to beat a weak team.

While smedindy is, by definition, correct, I DO understand your angst!  I've tallied up 3 ballots so far - there have already been THIRTY-THREE teams receiving votes!  [The top 18 have been unanymous - in fact, have received 53 of the 54 votes for the top 18 spots - but after that it gets wild!  And no, they are NOT the top 18 from last week, in case anyone fears I am contaminating the balloting!]

In case anyone didn't catch the mathematical implication from the above:  of 21 possible slots in the bottom 7, there have been 15 different teams!  We feel we know who the top 5% or so of d3 are, but we are up a creek on the next few! :o

smedindy

I don't think mine will fit in, because I had a couple of sleepers in my top 18 anyway. But I'm going to grab my research in the morning and then vote, so I don't miss anyone.

I'll be checking out the numbers and submitting my ballot within the hour.  There should be some good shake-ups here.
