Congratulations to UMW and HoopsDad34!  What a tremendous accomplishment for the team and a joy for you.

Yes!  As Tigerfan said, congratulations to UMW and to HoopsDad34!  I'm posting below a great local news article about a fabulous guy from Harrisonburg High School (Class of 2023), whom we've been excited to watch, as he's made a huge contribution to UMW's winning the National Championship!  https://www.dnronline.com/sports/level/college/former-harrisonburg-high-standout-jadon-burgess-helps-mary-washington-win-first-ever-d-iii-mens/article_9c6516c0-c987-5c90-ad98-d693cd878025.html

CNU's Toa Hollenbeck's dad is now the HC at Regent.

I chatted with Marcus Kahn and a number of other Division III coaches about the new state of D-III and how the portal affects how they recruit and such.

The conversation was before Kye Robinson actually declared he was going into the portal but the subtext was there when I asked my questions.

I read that piece with great interest. If everyone returns next year, CNU will have 9 seniors. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

It looks like the C2C will officially be without their AQ to the men's basketball tournament for the next two years as they have used up the two-year grace period and Regent and JWU Charlotte are two years away from getting the conference back to the membership minimum for an automatic bid.

The league made a waiver request to the championships committee but the group did not support it, noting that they "understood the rationale but did not support granting a waiver that would in effect double the grace period and set an undesired precedent."

HoopsDad34

Really a bummer they didn't get a waiver. Also ironic since two of the Final Four teams were from the C2C although I realize both would have made the tournament given their records this year even w/o an AQ. Last year, however, UMW would not have made the tournament given its 13-14 record after the C2C tournament.

oh well. Rules is da rules. it'll be ok.

Kye Robinson has since announced that he will now return to Mary Washington for his junior season.

This is what is currently happening at Regent. Under construction.

Tonight, they are having a huge fundraiser featuring former MLB player and 4x World Series Champion, Darryl Strawberry. $125/plate

I just learned that Regent doesn't do meal plans.  There's a restaurant style place you can buy meals ala carte, but all the dorms have full kitchens and most students cook for themselves.  That's pretty interesting.

^^^ Interesting, indeed. Sure seems like that involves a lot of risk and there would need to be some significant liability and fire insurance policies paid for by someone, especially if cooking is done using natural gas. However, if they have equipped the dorms with induction cooking stoves and ovens, then that probably makes it somewhat safer.

That is interesting. Especially for underclassmen. And no meal plans at all.  I believe all CNU upperclassmen dorms have full kitchens. I know my daughter lived on campus until her senior year. She had a full kitchen as a sophomore and junior. She still had a meal plan.

UMW is losing more coaches than players! Lost both assistant coaches: one to a local HS team as HC and one to Maryville as HC. Congrats to both Coach Lomax and Sansone. Quality gentlemen.

That assistant job should be one hot commodity.
