NYBB

Purchase played Chestnut Hill, a D2 school in their first game and won 9-6.

NYBB

So Skyline is pretty even right now...looking good.  any thoughts?  nobody is really dominant

MMTPdthree

yes sir.
St. Joes looks a lot better than anticipated.
MSV gave FSU a run for their money - however State prevailed
Still quesitoning what Westbury has tho

NYBB

We'll see about Westbury.  I saw MSM play...not impressive at all.   Purchase has one senior pitcher that's very good.  Polytech has a few okay dudes...Maritime, not so much.  It's wide open at the top though betwee Joes, Farm & MSV.  We'll see what happens

PureBBfan

NYBB who did you see MSM play? They are a better team then last year but there pitching has been spotty along with some eratic deffense... The Senior catcher Chris Schacca is down right dirty. He can hit a 90mph fastball falling outa bed.

MMTPdthree

PureBBfan - i totally agree with you about Schacca.  Kid can mash - no doubt about that.
Since we are on the subject of Mt. St. Marys ... How about the HUGE upset beating Farmingdale.  Speechless.

NYBB - Have you seen Westbury yet?  Impressive.

MSV- climbing back up ...

MMTPdthree

NYBB - after a half of a season, i am finally going to have to agree with you.  not about purchase (sorry) but about SUNY Old Westbury.  A split with Maratime ?!?!  Thats crazy.  Granted OW is a young team with that kid Mateo @ 1B, but they are beginning quite a decline.

WHERE DID MSMC come from ?!  Pitching came out of nowhere ...

NYBB

i have NO idea what MSM is doing but its working.  I saw their best pitchers throw and they were not impressive but, hey, they're winning so i can't say anything.

Farmingdale should win it all though.  It's a really tight race though, 1-8! (9 is yeshiva and they don't count)

nybaseballfan

its going to be either farmingdale or old westbury. St. joes n msm will crumble coming down to the last 2 weeks.  Old westbury has the best pitching staff in the conference with that kid whiteneck with a 0 era in confernce n something like 2 overrall.

MMTPdthree

Do you realize that SJC is going into their last weekend of conference play against Poly Tech as the #1 seed?  I dont see them falling down.  Even if the drop to #2 ... they still have a first round bye.

MSM i kind of agree with you - they are playing a very talented MSV team.  That will be a very exciting series to see.  That is going to be the battle for the #3 seed.

so - nybaseball fan - if the season were to end today ... the playoffs would be - 1. St. Joes  2. Farmingdale State  3.  MSV  4. MSM  5.  OW  6.  Purchase.  so - first round would be MSV vs Purchase and MSM vs OW.
Still think OW still has a shot?

im going to stick with my preseason prediction - Farmingdale State vs. MSV in the conference finals

St. Joe's beat KEan, and Mount St. Mary lost to John Jay yesterday, who would have thought?

NYBB

for polytech to take the 6th playoff spot from purchase, they need to win at least two of their four against MSV & Old Westbury.  Purchase owns the tie-breaker (whoever won the 9 inning game between the two teams, gets the tie-breaker) and even if they lose both to Farmingdale and Polytech wins one, Purchase goes.

So, it's up to Polytech to split or do better against MSV & Old Westbury.  That's easier to do than to beat Farmingdale in my opinion.

But, in another opinion, i really don't think D3 baseball in the region is so great this year.  Manhattanville has one kid that's getting scouted but they're not even in the conference anymore.  The CUNYAC is still weak...it's a sad day for new york baseball.

PureBBfan

Just cant figure out MSM they can look so good and then so bad....
What they will do in the playoffs only time will tell.... One word of advise to the teams and there pitching staffs "walk"........ Just walk the Schacca kid he must be hitting 500 and its like he's on base constantly anyway.

So, are you the Schacca kid's brother, father or relative? I'd imagine you're one of the three judging by the name on your e-mail account.

I was just on the phone with the head coach from CCNY LAST year, and we just said how abysmal D3 teams are around here. The CUNY conference had some decent teams last year - Kean lost to CSI, CCNY has a PRe-season all-american, and Jay was competitive with a relatively tough out of conference schedule. This year, the CUNYAC is awful, I dont' know if you guys have seen any of the teams, but it is at an all time low. YET....Lehmen beat Manhattanville, and a much improved Polytech team, John Jay beat Mount St. Mary's, then turned around and trudged through to beat William Patterson. CSI was beating Farmingdale 7-2 in teh 4th. I'm well aware that nobody is using conference pitchers and they are trying to save arms - but having seen several CUNY teams this year it shouldn't matter. Both of these conferences are in awful shape, and the teams are just flat out bad.
