Nothing about Tillema during pregame...probably a sign that he is still out....Lutz is out and could possibly be out the rest of the season, they don't know the extent of his ankle yet....Studer has a bad back but is playing through it.

No Tillema, no Lutz, no Studer. Could be interesting... The injury bug is in full effect.

Point wins without Tillema 66-57.  Ritchay, Heuer and Hass with 15, 13 and 10.  Evans, Harris and Young with 14, 14 and 11.  Whitewater just 4-19 from 3.  Point was 9-17. Huge win for Point.  I really can't believe how well they are doing without Tillema.  Great work by the other guys.  Maybe he should get a medical redshirt and play next year!

WIAC site has Point winning 67-57 for what it's worth.

No idea what happened at Stout.  Hortman missed two free throws with 5 seconds left and Stout up 3.  Stanley for River Falls hit one of two free throws with 2 seconds left.  It looks like River Falls go the rebound and called a time out.  It's been stuck on 2 seconds for 10 minutes now.

Stout sneaks one out, 77-75.

Point beats Whitewater 67-57 for the SEVENTH straight victory in the series. SP has won each of the last 3 regular season series, plus the WIAC tourney game in 09-10 en route to SP's most recent national championship.

Point extends the lead in the conference to 3 games with 6 to play (7 weeks --> 6 games plus a bye).

Pretty impressive streak over a team with a national title during it! 8-)

Let's change the award "Coach of the Year" to "Recruiter of the Year." Because, as Bud Grant said when his friend and coaching compatriot got the Bears' coaching  job:  "He'll do great if he gets players."

Coaching, aside from recruiting, is over-rated. Every coach in the WIAC could win with Point's talent.
WORLD'S OLDEST FALCON FAN.

MESSAGE TO RECRUITS:  IN DOUBT? ENROLL AT STOUT. DON'T CARE? GO TO EAU CLAIRE. AT A LOSS? TRY LACROSSE. FEELIN' OUTTA JOINT? YOUR PLACE IS POINT. DON'T LIKE THE REST? DO WHAT'S BEST!

Fixed it for you!  I remembered that, but didn't want to clutter my post!  The WIAC may be even crazier than the CCIW, where IWU has a habit of making the Final Four in years they don't win the conference!

Are you serious??

Semling deserves as much credit as anyone as a coach.  Point may be easier to recruit to but he still gets his players ready to play every season.  Plus, it's obvious how much his players improve from year to year so he must be able to get the most out of them.  He still has to deal with Whitewater who brings in recruiting classes that are just as talented, if not more.

That's the way that it has happened twice for UWSP too... it's really interesting if you actually look at the trends.

In 03-04 (the first championship year) we had an opportunity to win a share of our 6th straight conference title... but were defeated at home (to complete the sweep) by Superior, the #7 seed in the conference. Then we had to turn around 3 days later and play them in the first round of the conference tournament... and we won the third matchup. That set off a string of 9 in a row en route to the first national title.

In 04-05, all we had to do was win our last game at Oshkosh to win the conference outright... but Oshkosh beat us on their home floor by 15 in the regular season finale. We had to share it with Platteville, but then swept through the WIAC tournament and the NCAA tournament on a string of 8 in a row for the second consecutive national title, including redemption against Oshkosh in the semi's of the WIAC tournament.

In 09-10, all Point had to do was win the last game at La Crosse to win at least a share of the conference title... but LaX won the game by 12 (the first and only time La Crosse had/has beaten Stevens Point under Ken Koelbl's reign and the first time since 2001). Point then won 8 straight and the national title, including getting redemption against Whitewater in the finale.

So, in each of the three championship runs, SP lost the regular season finale, which either caused them to lose a share of a conference title or to have to share it with a conference opponent. They also ended up playing (and beating) that team the next week in the conference tournament.
