It isn't even February yet and the WIAC could already be looking at just two NCAA tourney teams and only 1 Pool C spot.

We've only put three teams in the post season three times (2005-06, 2008-09 and 2011-12) in the past decade.

I understand that John, but we've had three teams in the 1st Regional Rankings published 3 out of the last 4 years. I know that doesn't guarantee anything, but it puts you on the radar. If you aren't, its an uphill battle. You have to be invited to the dinner (regional rankings) to get a chance to get a seat at the table in hopes of getting one of 19 at-large bids.

Unless Platteville or LaCrosse goes on a winning streak, the only way the WIAC gets three spots is if neither Point nor Whitewater wins the conference tourney.  Highly unlikely IMHO.

Greek Tragedy

Platteville could. Whitewater hasn't shown me they can win the big one on the road, losing at Point, Stout and La Crosse. Platteville can then hope to go 1-1 at La Crosse and at Point. 6-1 to end the regular season is doable. They have a game at Oshkosh first and finish with three home games.

Also looked like River Falls and Platteville might pull off upsets too...No dice.

La Crosse was in deep trouble, but starting hitting a few threes and rebounding after halftime to nip an impressive young Oshkosh team.

WARHAWKS: 80
Platteville: 68

The first half was a back and forth affair with 10 lead changes and 6 ties.  Platteville's largest lead was just five points and the WARHAWKS never led by more than three.  A Chas Cross layup with four and half minutes remaining in the half put the Pioneers up by one and they held the lead to the end of half 35-32.  Reggie Hearn's 11 points paced the WARHAWKS and Alex Merg added 7 points.  Cross's 12 points led all scorers and Eric Gerber chipped in with 6 points.  The Pioneers shot 63% from the floor but the WARHAWKS stayed in the game with a 12-2 advantage in points off of turnovers.  With the exception of six ties Platteville held a lead that never exceeded five points for the first eleven and half minutes of the second half until a three point play by Quardell Young put the WARHAWKS on top 58-57.  However Platteville quickly regained the lead on Jake Mannings layup but the WARHAWKS just as quickly tied it on Hearn's free throw and took the lead for good when Alex Merg drained a three-pointer with seven minutes to play.  After that the WARHAWKS lead reached a high of 15 points before the final horn.

Hearn's 25 points led the WARHAWKS while Eric Bryson added 14 and Merg finished with 10 as well as a game high 5 assists.  KJ Evans' 7 rebounds were a game high and Young's 5 assists tied Merg for game honors.  The WARHAWKS held the advantage 40-29 in the paint and 20-7 off of turnovers.

Cross's 26 points and 5 blocks were both game highs.

Good win in what has been a tough gym for the WARHAWKS and important in that it gives us the tie breaker over the Pioneers should it come down to that.

Chmarx - also very impressed with Oshkosh and how much they have improved.  They played as well defensively in the first half as any WIAC team I've seen over the last month or so.  They did allow too many straight line drives to Collum and Skogman in the 2nd half and that was probably the difference.  Did not shrink the floor and allowed them to attack with their strong hand in space.

Bolger, Olson, and Schebel are good young players to build around and was impressed with Royston's leadership.

Greek Tragedy

Whitewater showed some guts to get the big win at Platteville.

The hosts were up 59-58 with about 8 1/2 minutes to go. Whitewater went on a huge run and at  the 3:46 mark, Whitewater was up 72-59. Game, set, match. Hearn was a stud. Evans struggled for 2-11 shooting and despite no fouls, he played just 20 minutes. Wow.

Note to all posters who participate in WIAC Pick-em:  I watched the Stout/RF game last night with BlueDevilBob and he mentioned that if WW won last night he would be in 1st place by himself.  He assured me that he was much brighter than the rest of the posters and now that he was in front, it would be fairly easy to stay there.  ;D

Yeah right. I'm the king of last place in the pick 'ems, just check the football page.
Never fear, I will screw it up somehow.

I actually never thought the game was in doubt, even when it was 21-11 River Falls in the first half. The Falcons just came out super hot and couldn't miss at the start. Their shooting evened out as Stout adjusted and so did the score with the Devils being up at the half.
