Yeah, $8 is pretty pricey. Point charges $6. You can get into the women's game and pay a double header price of $10.

Live ticket at Kolf is $9.  I think they should charge less. A lot less. And sell a season pass.  Maybe they do but the Athletic Dept there is being neutered by that Vice Chancellor woman who made sure they fired the baseball coach this past summer too.  Eventually she will tear down Kolf.  >:(
[/b]

Funny that you would mention that Oshy baseball coach getting fired.  I watched him treat his baseball players like crap for many years and wondered if anyone would have the guts to fire him being that he won a ton of games.  And as far as tearing down Kolf, I also don't think that is a bad idea.  Not a great place to watch or play a basketball game in my opinion, but I wasn't there this year.  Maybe it is better now.

http://www.uwosh.edu/today/21163/renovated-kolf-sports-center-reopens-its-doors/

They've poured $4.4 million over the last decade, $1.4 million just a year and a half ago. There's lots more to the facility than just basketball.

Quote
"The Kolf field house is one of the most heavily used facilities on our campus," said Darryl Sims, UW Oshkosh athletics director, who believes the renovations were much-needed and will bring great additional value to UW Oshkosh."

These days, the facility is not only used for sporting events such as track and field, wrestling, volleyball and gymnastics, but it's also used annually for UW Oshkosh's commencement ceremonies, high school graduations and other public events. It has been host to Bob Dylan, then-Senator Barack Obama and annual Special Olympics State Indoor sports tournaments.

Notice they didn't even SAY basketball.

I think there's more of a chance she'll just close down the program altogether than to tear down such a multi-functional building.

I was kidding about tearing down Kolf but not about the baseball coach.  Also, perhaps the fact that basketball wasn't mentioned tells you where the program rates.  In most cases, the more multi-funtional a building is, the less basketball friendly it is.

I'll grant that, though Quandt is pretty multi-functional (and very basketball friendly).[/b]
Which is exactly my point.  And why doesn't Shirley play in your basketball friendly and multi-functional facility?  Because she has a wonderful, cozy little home court advantage that she can call her own.  The people who make the decisions at Point really put the emphasis on their basketball and it shows with their crowds and their passion.  In the past anyway, at Oshkosh, I have never gotten the feeling that the basketball programs were that high of a priority.  It seems like both men's and women's programs  are now in high gear and maybe that emphasis will (or already has) changed.

It's called recruiting. In the past, it appeared to be optional.  :o
Must mean they had GREAT coaching if recruiting wasn't being done with five NCAA appearances in an eight year span...  :o

You mean the same former and current players that packed the conference room in support of him this past summer?  Yeah, the players must have sure hated how he treated them!!!  ::)

Stoutguy-I respect you opinion about A LOT of things on here, but you couldn't be more off base as far as Coach Lechnir goes.

Cubs is right.  Hard to understand this one--I think the errors in the administration's financial handling of the stadium project were the root cause here.  If they wanted to get rid of Tom they could have done it years ago when there were some issues. Now right before he is eligible for full retirement?  Sounds convenient.  The companies in Oshkosh that came to support him and his representations re: the Stadium project also must be really disappointed in the University for its actions.  Burn a bridge to cover your butt? I think so.  >:(

AS everyone who knows me will attest, I sometimes offer my opinion when I should keep my mouth shut.  I have never met your Tom so it is unfair of me to judge him.  I have only heard him during games and his words and actions made me think that he was not a person I would ever be supportive of.  I should have kept my mouth shut but my opinion of him will probably remain the same.

Unless Platteville or LaCrosse goes on a winning streak, the only way the WIAC gets three spots is if neither Point nor Whitewater wins the conference tourney.  Highly unlikely IMHO.

Quote from: Greek Tragedy on January 29, 2014, 02:29:14 PM
Platteville could. Whitewater hasn't shown me they can win the big one on the road, losing at Point, Stout and La Crosse. Platteville can then hope to go 1-1 at La Crosse and at Point. 6-1 to end the regular season is doable. They have a game at Oshkosh first and finish with three home games.

Oops. Platteville has now lost three in a row. A bit of a surprise they couldn't defend home court vs. Whitewater in a  80-68 loss. The game was real close before the visitors went on a big run to put the game away. A shocker as they fell on the road to Oshkosh, 60-56. Then they get hammered by La Crosse on the road.

By the way, regarding the large number of negative karma points that I just received this morning make me  realize that I am not making any new friends on this board.  But, like Badgerwarhawk, I could care less about karma points so fire away.  I have been going crazy with chatter this past couple days as a result of knowing that I won't be around for the next 5 weeks and will have to rely on the computer for my basketball fix.  I don't  think live d3 games are a big hit in Key West but with Mr. Corona as my good friend, I will survive.

Karma points are silly.

WARHAWKS: 77
Superior: 44

This game was over as quickly as it started when Eric Bryson drained consecutive three-pointers on the WARHAWKS first two possesions igniting the  WARHAWKS on a 11-1 run over the first three minutes of the game.   After that the Yellow Jackets would get no closer and the WARHAWKS lead grew to it's first half high of 26 points, 45-19 when the half time buzzer sounded.  Bryson led all scorers with 17 points including 5-6 from beyond the arc.  As a team the WARHAWKS went 9 for 11 on three point attempts.  All sixteen WARHAWKS making the trip saw playing time.  Though there were only two turnovers separating the teams the WARHAWKS had a 16-4 scoring advantage off of them.  Twenty two points is as close as Superior would get in the second half.

Bryson finished with 18 points.  KJ Evans added 16.  Quardell Young's 9 assists were a game high.  Reggie Hearn's 8 rebounds were a game high as was his 3 steals.  Alex Merg also recorded 3 steals.  Evans and Cody Odegaard each pulled down 7 rebounds.  The WARHAWKS finished with a 24-6 advantage off of turnovers and 24-8 off of the bench.

Brian Lindbloom and Jarrod Peterson led the Yellow Jackets with 11 points apiece.  Zach Schradle added 10 points.

LaCrosse comes to Williams Center Wednesday.

Buddy got a 65 incher yesterday too...  Got to watch him play it out and then help him gaf it and throw it out the shack door.  All after picking up a pair of walleyes earlier in the morning.  ;)

As far as $8 charge?  Total guess but Sims probably needs to raise some extra cash for the civil suit against the University...  :o

I will watch but the playoffs, I think, are off limits.  Regarding the FREE Stout video, if anyone watched it yesterday, give me a take on how it was.  I talked a buddy of mine into doing the play by play.  It was his first shot at it, but I'm guessing it went well.

Nothing like making a judgement on a guy when you have only seen them in the middle of an athletic contest...  A lot of guys probably wouldn't think much of Bo Ryan either if they only used his actions on the sideline to form their viewpoints.

You are right.  Not fair to judge based on just watching him from the sidelines. Great comparison to Bo.  But I can certainly have an opinion based on watching and listening to him coach for many years.  Defend him all you want, I will keep my opinion to myself on this particular subject from now on.

He's probably not going to earn sainthood anytime soon, but many people base their opinions/judgments off of only seeing the things that happen during games.  It would be nice if more people saw/heard about the things that happen when games aren't being played, which would give them a better idea about what kind of people some of these coaches really are.
