RF 103-98 winner over a VERY GOOD Robert Morris team. Herink, transfer from Mankato, had 36.

Miller also said freshman Zach Knobloch will make an immediate impact at the guard position

Taken from the Janesville Gazette 11/16/16

I guess Coach Miller was not kidding. Knobloch has 20 points at halftime of their first game.

Did the NCAA let Semling out on Huber law for the Hoopsville Classic?   ;)

How has point just fallen off the map?  Is it bad recruiting or what?  I thought Bryce Williams was supposed to be an all American candidate.  Where is the d1 kid from army?  It's not looking good at all from what I've seen.

So, I don't see all the WIAC teams on a regular basis, so it's tough for me to judge, but I will say the Point squad looked better than I expected.  We're used to strong upperclassmen from Point and they really rely on sophomores for most of their leadership and scoring.  Those guys looked VERY good for sophomores.

There will be a lot of learning to do, and the schedule is seriously tough, but I wouldn't be too disappointed with the team that's actually on the floor.  Maybe Semling could've done more to fill out the roster, but I think this team could make some waves.  They got treated the way Emory was treated by St. Thomas at the Hoopsville Classic last year (and this CNU team is better than that St. Thomas team was) and that Emory team wasn't terrible.

The WIAC season should be very interesting.  I'd believe it if you told me Point was going to win the conference, but I'd also believe it if they finished 6th - just speaks well for the strength of the league.

Ben Boots' 28 pts. reminds me of how good he was as a freshman. He would easily have been Freshman of the Year had there been one chosen. Oshkosh starts only one senior. They will be tough for at least a couple of years.

It's also seems apparent that Point does not have their accustomed talent. Coach Semling did not suddenly become  mediocre. Recruiting is huge.

Colorado College: 71
WARHAWKS: 90

Freshman sharpshooter Zach Knobloch hit 7 of 13 three point shots leading the WARHAWKS, who shot 52% from the floor, to a season opening 90-71 win over Colorado College.  CC took their only lead of the game with the opening basket but Knobloch answered with his first three and the WARHAWKS quickly built the lead to a first half high of twenty-two points with six minutes remaining.  The lead stood at twenty-one 51-30 when the half ended.  Knobloch's 20 points and 4 rebounds led the WARHAWKS who shot 56% from the floor and controlled the boards 27-14.  Despite shooting 65% from the floor CC was unable to get closer than fifteen points in the second half.

Knobloch: 23 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist
Chris Jones: 13 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 0 turnovers
Scotty Tyler: 10 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block
Demetrius Woodley: 10 points, 3 assists, 1 block, 12 steals
Andre Brown: 9 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists

This was a nice start to hopefully a more successful season.  We've got more size than last year.  Knobloch can flat out shoot.  Chris Jones also looks like he will be a significant addition at the point.  We took pretty good care of the ball turning it over only 10 times which considering our style is ok with me.  CC isn't going to compete for a national championship but I thought they were a decent team.  They were a good opening opponent as we try to get our rotations down with all of the new faces on the team.

Lindsey Wilson: 78
WARHAWKS: 85

Chris Jones hit 11 of 16 shots from the floor finishing with 32 points as the WARHAWKS built a 43-30 lead at the half and then held off an LW second half rally to improve to 2-0 on the season.  LW was playing its 10th game of the year.  Cole VanSchyndel opened the scoring with a three pointer giving the WARHAWKS a lead they would hold the rest of the game.  Drew Bryson's three pointer eight and half minutes into the game created the first double digit lead 20-10 but the Blue Raiders were able to cut it to five 24-19 within a few minutes though by the four and half minute mark the WARHAWKS had regained a double digit lead which they held for the remainder of the half.  Seven of nine WARHAWKS who had played contributed points.  Jones's 16 points led the way while Zach Knobloch and Drew Bryson each added eight.  The WARHAWKS turned 9 LW turnovers into an 16-6 scoring advantage. The WARHAWKS were able to maintain a double digit lead for the first four minutes of the second half before LW reduced it to six 49-43.  Over the next seven minutes the lead would change from single to double figure.  The WARHAWKS were up 68-57 with under nine minutes remaining when an LW dunk cut it to nine and the Blue Raiders would stay within single digits, reducing the lead to just three points 71-68 with five and half minutes remaining.  However over the last five minutes the WARHAWKS would go 4-6 from the floor, 5-6 from the free throw line and commit no turnovers to preserve the win.

Jones: 32 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 block, 1 steal
Andre Brown: 13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block
Zach Knobloch: 11 points, 2 steals
Bryson: 9 points, 6 rebounds

I wasn't able to attend the game so I don't know much other than what the write up and box score tell me.  On the plus side Jones dominated from the point and after 9 first half turnovers we only turned it over 3 times in the second one.  We didn't shoot as well over all but once again finished over 50% from beyond the arc and were significantly better from the free throw line.  We held our own on the boards, including 18 offensively, but were hammered in the paint to the tune of 52-24.

Point made a much better effort against Lynchburg yesterday.  LC tried to pressure them in the late second half and erased all the lead, but those Pointers fought it off and won the game.  Maybe not the same kind of team as in recent years, but still a strong squad.  I'm going to have to watch a lot more WIAC games this season to figure out how to judge these teams.

Wartburg beats UWO 83-72. UWO lead 30-13 w/ about 6 min left in 1st. Knights cut lead to 10, 43-33 at 1/2. Boots and Noone shooting was about all UWO had for offense.  UWO did not score for first 5:50 of second half.

I have never seen ice that thick in Oshkosh except on Lake Winnebago.  Two long stretches with no offense. They'll figure it out and watch out for the Titans.
