tomt4515--I said Falcons have deepest BENCH AT GUARD POSITION, not that they had better guards than Point, WW, or Osh.

Ok...and I still disagree, I think that all 3 teams I mentioned have more depth and talent at Guard than UWRF.  To each their own, I think this conference's guard play with have a huge bearing on who raises a banner after the season.

WARHAWKS: 51
Stevens Point: 64

Unlike some previous games I've discussed the final score of this game isn't anywhere near as ugly as the game itself.  After the WARHAWKS had taken a 9-8 lead at the eleven minute mark the Pointers ran off 10 straight and later expanded their lead to double digits with a minute to play in the first half.  The half ended 25-15 and the WARHAWKS never got within double digits the rest of the way.  The WARHAWKS shot 23% from the floor including 0-10 from beyond arc and finished the game with a season low 36%.  Derek Rongstad and David Sachs each finished with 11 points and Malik Clements 7 points and 6 rebounds.

I have to believe the staff was pretty disappointed with this performance.

Amazing that Point was able to hold at least a 100-point lead the rest of the way!

In all seriousness, Point didn't shoot the lights out either. I'm impressed with the win and the margin. I think I would've felt differently had they shot 60% from the field and hit 8-12 3s.

Good catch Greek.

OK dudes we've started a WIAC pickem for the season and due to a stroke of good fortune, my benevolence and the fact we presently only have five participants there is STILL TIME TO JOIN.  As it was everyone is tied after the first week.  So JOIN THIS WEEK and I'll award you the same points and everyone will be even going into game two.

Obviously every conference game is big, but it sucks the two biggest conference games Point has at home on paper (record and ranking) are weekday games and when the students are gone, yesterday (Whitewater) and next Wednesday (Oshkosh).

Boots scores the last 7 points of the game to avoid the upset at the Titans rally for a 77-70 win.

Down 5 Boots is fouled and makes all 3 free throws. After a Stout miss, Boots nails a 3 to put them up 1 with 30 seconds to go. Keefe is fouled with 19 to go but misses both free throws. Boots makes 1 of 2 at the other end and Keefe misses another 3  with 10 seconds to go. Boots hits 6 3s on his way to 31 pts.

Point could not play better than they did in the first half of their 88-68 win at RF. They shot 71%, including 7/10 threes. They led 47-31 at half. Point appears to have few weaknesses as all five starters scored in double figures, led by Dodge w/29. He hit 6/8 on threes. Perhaps their only weakness is their bench as they got only 2 bench points and other than Ehrke and Nelson in double figure minutes, nobody else got more than 2 minutes. And this game was never in doubt from half time on.

Stensgard led the Falcons w/17, followed by Heidecker and Ingersoll w/ 10 each.

For the game, Point shot 66%, RF 41%.

Big game at the top of the standings tomorrow. Oshkosh escaped last time out and now heads to Quandt. Whitewater takes on Stout and some could say an easy win, but Stout was up 5 with two minutes to go, but Boots goes on a personal 7-0 run to win it. A loss puts the Warhawks 3 back after just 3 games. La Crosse travels to Eau Claire in another battle of 2-0 teams. No, that's not a misprint. Will the Blugolds stumble at home after their big road win at Whitewater? Lastly, Platteville and River Falls try to get their first wins of the conference season down in Platteville.
