Last nights RMC-CNU game could be called a tale of two halves. The officiating was sub par- when I say that I don't mean it was one sided, although CNU went to the line 33 times I think compared to our 9- what I mean was that it just wasn't consistent! In the first half they called every little pitty pat hand check and reach and in the second half they let them play. In the first half every RMC starter had at least two fouls, which affected  our game- Jabril Robinson didn't even play 10 minutes the first half I don't think. Like my colleague Yeljacklok said we were turnover prone, and we were lucky CNU shot so badly from outside the 2nd half!!We continue to be vulnerable inside, also. Had CNU pushed it inside like they did the first half we could have been in trouble. All in all it's still really early in the season  and it's a learning experience for both teams! If we met them later in the season it would probably be a much better game but we'll take the "W"! Now back home to face Yeshiva Saturday night!

I think the game last night was an excellent way to start the season. Both teams were tested in all aspects of their game. Both teams will take away something from this that should help them the rest of the season. I predicted an 8 point CNU loss. I was close. We lost our All-American and only have 1 senior. We're good. But RMC is loaded. Good luck the rest of the way.

Also - when RMC won the national championship, they went 33-1 with the lone loss to CNU. The following year CNU won it all with a record of 30-3, with one of the losses to RMC. So, statistically speaking, the loser of this game each year has a better chance at a Natty!!  ;D

Matt and Zac Snyder of the D3datacast had this game as their pickems game of the week with RMC being a 5 point favorite according to their computer. They both picked CNU to beat that spread, primarily given that they were the home team. Zac even introduced his pick by saying he should learn never to pick against RMC. If I were doing the pickems I would have picked CNU to beat that spread as well. They fell one hoop short.

The officials certainly were a bit whistle-happy in the first half. Maybe all those whistles were actually fouls that in some games don't get called. Who knows? It wasn't on-sided.

CNU doesn't have quite as much size as RMC's first two opponents, so that could have helped the Jackets. As for RMC being loaded, they certainly have experience, starting three seniors and a junior, all of whom also started most of last season. Six freshmen and sophomores played well last night, combining for 78 minutes.

Lynchburg lost at home yesterday to USA South preseason #1 Pfeiffer, 95-89.  It was a close game; LU even had a 2 point lead with 1:27 to go.  Either the offenses were great or the defense was lacking.  As an ODAC fan, this was a little disappointing.  Pfeiffer will play in a tournament at H-SC next weekend.

4 ODAC teams are playing tonight.  The most interesting matchup is W&L vs Salisbury up in PA in the Messiah Tip Off tournament.

Yeshiva comes to Crenshaw tomorrow evening for an 815 Tipoff precipitated by the Jewish Sabbath ending at sundown.Plus tomorrow is "The Game" vs HSC at Day Field- PLUS its Homecoming at RMC, which makes for a very busy weekend in the COTU! Don't know what we'll see in Yeshiva, but they are usually well coached and a good team so I expect a good game! We were supposed to play them in the NCAA Playoffs the very day the NCAA shut down for CoVid in 2020 and that was supposed to be a huge matchup then. I would expect Josh has his kids ready to play and we should have a good crowd in Crenshaw so it should be a good atmosphere GO JACKETS!!

Yeshiva was really sloppy in their opener on Wednesday.  I'd expect they'll be pretty locked in, but RMC is perhaps the best team in the country and capitalizing on mistakes, so this could really go one of two ways for the Macs.  They've been anticipating this game for 5+ years, though, so I expect the motivation to be at 100%.

Yeshiva and RMC are both very different teams in 2025 than they were in 2020. The 2020 teams each had future D3 POYs in Ryan Turrell for Yeshiva and Buzz Anthony for RMC. Turrell went on to spend some time in the NBA G-League with the Detroit Pistons and now (correct me if I'm wrong) plays professionally in Israel. Buzz has been playing professionally in Germany since graduating (again, correct me if I'm wrong). Also, I don't want to take anything away from the other players on those 2020 teams. I'd say it's safe to say both 2020 teams were more storied than their 2025 counterparts.

Tigerfan noted the four games tonight. W&L sees its first action with Randolph playing its first game tomorrow.

On Wednesday Guilford won a high scoring game at NC Wesleyan 106-102. Quite a change for the Quakers. Overall, on Wednesday night ODAC teams were 5-1. When factoring in last night's loss by Lynchburg, ODAC teams are now 13-9 on the young season.

The Tigers are off until next weekend.  Their tournament should start off with a bang when the Tony Shaver Court is dedicated, which means Tony and who knows how many of his players will be there.

I like the start of this season for H-SC.  The synergy, particularly in the sophomore class, is growing.  Last season the need for better defense and rebounding was always at the forefront.  Coach Kimbrough believes this group is working on being elite at those phases of the game.  I hope Shane Fernald is being encouraged to finish strong around the basket.  Oddly, he is shooting more like a little guy in the paint, finishing like he is extremely adverse to being blocked and trying for finesse, which has produced some head scratching shots  As a result, his shooting % is at an all time low for the first 3 games:  35%.  He has been around 57% for his career.  Alex Cannon is much stronger with the ball this year, his footwork is better and his minutes are going up accordingly.  If he can make just a few more free throws, he will be a double digit scorer.

Roanoke started their season last Tuesday with a beat down against a developing Christendom team 90-38.  That game didn't really tell me much about us except we can beat teams that most likely won't have a good season.

Today Roanoke played Southern Virginia University and won 86-56.  First half we only had a 9 point lead but the defense got way better in the second half.  Hard to judge this team right now as we haven't played anyone really that good. That might change tomorrow as we go against a Marymount team who's currently beating Guilford 82-68 with 40 seconds left at Roanoke college.

I watched a good bit of this game. The announcers said Roanoke had won all six previous meetings vs SVU by an average of 28 points and never allowed SVU to score more than 60 points. With five and a half minutes left in the first half and SVU leading 31-24 it sure looked like that would change. Then Roanake went to another gear, scored 18 unanswered points and led 42-33 at halftime. The kept it up in the second half and kept the scoring margin and under 60 streak in tact. Final was 86-56.

Averett downs Greensboro in a back and forth game 82-73. W&L starts off strong, downing Salisbury 88-63. Guilford loses to Marymount 84-68.
