;DHopefully they have improved, if you saw them as "very athletic, good leapers"; otherwise your team is in deep doo-doo. ;D

Trust me, at least some of them can really jump.  I think Roanoke would agree.

sludge -

Are you going to the Greensboro game on the 29th?

How much do you think the team has improved/matured since last winter?  How do you see the newcomers - Henson, Strickland, Sanborn, Gilbert, Warren, Currin - helping the Quakers this year?

Looks like the Tigers should have their hands full in tomorrow evening's home opener against Averett.  The Cougers finished 20-8 last season and were picked to finish 3rd in the USA South Conference this year (after CNU and North Carolina Wesleyan).  They solidly defeated Washington & Lee on Saturday, 79-56.

With a good performance, the Tigers are capable of getting their 3rd win of the season against Averett.  They have 6 guys who are averaging 10+ points/game (Kaase, Prehmus, King, Murray, Edwards, and Green).  Multiple scoring threats!

Following Thanksgiving, the Tigers play Ferrum on Saturday and then have a week before their first ODAC game, way out in the mountains of Emory.

I confess I know nothing about the team this year; historically they are VERY bad.

Sounds like they must finally have a respectable team.

Having seen Robert Morris-Springfield last year in the USCAA Nationals, they had a few athletes but tried more to pound the post as they did have a 7-footer who was...well.....a 7-footer at d3/uscaa....large and took up space on both ends.
Sounds like their coach has opened the barn and let the horses run some this year.

They seem stronger, faster, smarter, sharper, and deeper.  Aside from that, not much change.
The new blood runs hot too.

Hey, nice start to the season for Bridgewater.  ;)

Well, good to see not much has changed.  lol  I think the Quakers are poised for a break through season - maybe 18 or better?  I don't want to count those chickens too soon, but I see good things for this team.  The ODAC, however, is a very tough conference.  See you at some of the games!

I agree, BC and several other ODAC teams are off to good starts.  Personally, I wish the league could win all their out-of-conference games!

Been MIA since last year but wanted to give a hello to fellow posters and welcome another DIII basketball season.  Will be at the CNU/VWC home opener for the Marlins who have the HUGE target on the back this year.

Missed this weeks pick'ems but would take VWC here tonight.  I figured I would take a week off at the beginning.  After winning the regular season pick'ems, I choked in the playoffs...oh well had a tough draw.  Hope all is well w/ everyone....

Go Marlins!

PS:  How about that women's soccer team.... FINAL FOUR!!!

justafan02..nice to have you back...you can still pick 2 games tonight if you want...The other game besides VWC/CNU is Eastern mennonite v. Shenendoah. Go for it..i've got you "IN" VWC beating the Captains. Ya got about 90 minutes to knock out the other pick...

bucket with I believe 5 seconds left lifts VWC 72-71 over CNU

listened to the game..couldnt catch the name of the scorer...but CNU held a 5-point lead with 2 minutes left

Congratulations to Quaker Ben Strong for being named the first 2006-07 ODAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week.  Ben had 53 points, collected 19 rebounds and had 4 blocks in Guilford's 2-0 week at the Roanoke tournament.   Against Sewanee, Strong matched his career high with 30 points in 24 minutes.  So far this season, Guilford's center is 20 of 32 from the floor and 13 of 16 from the line.  Keep it up!

Back from the Tank with a 72-71 win from the Marlins.  Sloppy basketball from both teams.  Not much defense played and a lot of fouls from both teams.

It looked like VWC settled for a lot of shots from guys other than Balenga and Adair and didn't pick up the defense until about 2 minutes left in the game.

CNU missed a TON of opportuinities.  They had many chances to beat the Marlins.  The Marlins snuck away with this one....but you gotta win those too.  Good news is, they have a lot of growing room.

Congratulations to the Marlins on winning the season opener.  Another heart-stopper, another come from behind victory with under 5 seconds left.  CNU played a good game and the Marlins had their problems but they pulled out another unbelievable win .  Marlins led early and often and were up 38-35 at the half  but CNU hung in there and played tough.  The Marlins' experience won it for them in the end through sheer determination and never say die attitude.  No other reason to explain it.  They should have lost but didn't.  The defense kept them in the game and Macedo made the adjustments needed to pull the game out.  If every game goes down to the wire like this one... VWC will have to give out pacemakers to all their fans.. WTGGGGGG Marlins...29 in a row...and counting.  Congrats to CNU for giving the Marlins almost all they could handle tonight.

This is just out of control, the Marlins winning by 1 point.  They win b 1 point, then 2 points, then 3 points, then 2 points... incredible.  They do find a way to win.

Well, once and a while they blow somebody out also.

Then back to 2 points, 5 points, 1 point...

Incredible.
