27-0 loss to a 3 win NAIA team last year in a weak conference. They had 63 yds of offense and averaged 1.7 yds per play.

Disaster hire. And that's sucks for the MIAC, we need more competent and competitive teams in this league.
Valley City is improved from what I heard but 63 yards of offense is really bad. Wasn't the new HC an OC? I thought he was coming in to change some of the offense but they looked awful last night. Got beat up on both sides of the line. Hope they can find a way to improve or they will be in the bottom 3 before the year is all set and done.

7 Completions, .6 yds/rush, 15 minutes TOP...

Seems not good when Hamline and Mac are thinking you are a step on their ladder up the conference rankings

WHILE I WAS SLEEPING... Did the MIAC drop the old skylines and silos divisions? I just checked the conference website to remind myself what miracles St Scholastica did last year that keeps them out of the "bottom tier" outlook, and saw the 2025 standings set up as one solitary unit. It also had 0-1 Augsburg on top, so who knows what to believe.

Disclaimer—I do know why Auggies are listed as they are.

Sucks no game this week.
Any word on the QB starter for SJU?

Does not having our first match up until September 13th impact St John's in any way? No bye later in the season. Glad our wait's over in another week! Wonder if whoever wins the QB battle can get anywhere close to filling Erdmann's & Syverson's shoes? We've definitely been spoiled with them under center!

Considering Bethel also doesn't play today I don't think the late start to the season is a disadvantage for the Johnnies. It helps that the first three games will likely be tuneup scrimmages for the SJU / BU showdown. Bethel has a slight advantage playing Gus Davis week two as the Gusties will probably provide a higher level competition to the Royals.

Thoughts on if the Johnnies,
looking ahead to Bethel, will mix it up at QB the first three weeks. Throw in some Zander RPO and have the Feeney kid open it up through the air to make Bethel spend preparation time on two styles of quarterbacks?

Feels like with St Thomas no longer in the mix, that it's either feast/famine depending on if we beat Bethel. Certainly a loss can have major implications later in the season. If we lose to Bethel, every game thereafter is a must win. This time next Saturday the LONG wait will FINALLY be over.

With no football on this weekend, I'll squeeze in the first round of AFL finals. Hawthorn played a thriller up in Sydney against Greater Western Sydney. Good finals footy.  It's off to Adelaide next week to take on the Crows Friday night.

And some good on-field post-game interviews with the captain, James Sicily, and our 100 game midfield hard man Jai "Duke" Newcombe.

A large number of upsets this weekend in the top 25. And a few near misses as well. This will be an interesting year, it seems.

Valley City spilt with Mayville State last season. Scores were 16-10 and 6-10.
Last night the Cobbers barely snuck by Mayville 17-6. I know it's only week one. The Cobbers trailed 3-0 until the third quarter. Mayville did play last week which might have helped them a bit. That said they were a 4-6 team last season.

Cobbers looked downright pathetic on offense out of the gates last night. In the past four years, they have stumbled similarly, resulting in come from behind squeaker victories against Valley City State and losses to what should have been a beatable WI-Eau Claire team. Defense is way ahead of the offense. Red zone stalls and a momentum killing turnover in the first half did make the score appear tighter than the game play did, but the first half was truly about as ugly as it gets offensively. For some of the passes, the term incomplete doesn't even capture it...they were throws to nowhere.

Grateful for a second half recovery, where the Cobbers had dominating drives and controlled the game.

I think the Cobbers will show up at St. Olaf in two weeks with those opening nerves settled and return to Moorhead with the troll trophy still safely in Horan's office. Quarterback play still a big question based on last night, so it is really hard to say at this point whether or not this team will be in the mix for top of conference. I would guess at this point they are probably shooting for #3.

Is three a large number? And one of those three is a win by a WIAC team, plus another is a Top 25 beating another Top 25. Didn't seem large in number to me.
