It's Johnnie game day! I'm anxious to see if we can pitch a third straight shutout and how many points we can put up! Happy Saturday all!

Going old school today...listening online...at least I won't be using dialup modem and RealPlayer to stream the audio.

Man, I can't remember the last time SJU had a Triple Monkey Stompout.  Maybe one of the LLMs can help me discover that.

I find that Grok 4.0 (Twitter's LLM) is really good in expert mode (which you can use twice an hour for free).  It found today's victory, but that wasn't in the offical SJU PDF yet so it discounted it.

QuoteThe last time St. John's University (MN) beat an opponent by 63-0 or more in a shutout (with SJU scoring at least 63 points) was on October 30, 2021.

All such instances are listed below in chronological order:

| Date              | Opponent              | Score  |
|----—————----------|-----------------——————-|--------|
| November 9, 1919  | Hamline (away)        | 70-0  |
| November 2, 1924  | St. Scholastica (away) | 70-0  |
| October 9, 1926  | Park Region (home)    | 72-0  |
| October 22, 1977  | Macalester (home)      | 70-0  |
| September 2, 2017 | St. Scholastica (home) | 98-0  |
| October 30, 2021  | St. Scholastica (home) | 81-0  |

All I know is what I've been seeing reported through the media, but this is one of the most impressive things I've seen on the football field.

It truly is incredible.  I wish nothing but the best for that young man in his battle.

My two cents before going to bed:
BU and SJU are solid teams.
GAC and Concordia have not really improved...in fact both may a have regressed.
Carleton might be on the uptick but barely got by the Potato Oles today.
The rest of the league might have tough time winning the MSHSL class 6A championship (ok that might be a bit harsh)...but MAC, CSS, Hamline and Auggie are just not very good. I'll also bet that Carleton will beat either Gus Davis or the Cobs this season.

I'm interested to see how Hamline does against non SJU/BU teams, they were able to put 400 yards up in the air yesterday, their 2nd QB was slinging it. Of course, their air offense was about the only bright spot for them.

Hamline passed for over 400 yards against BU?  This is an interesting data point for this coming weekend.

Most of that came in the 4th against the backups, but yes. Their 2nd QB was actually pretty mobile and more impressive than their starter IMO.

Looking at the box score, that fourth quarter was wild.  A whole game was played in just 15 minutes.

I watched the replay this afternoon of the HU/BU game and have come away with some uneasiness as we get ready to face the Johnnies next weekend. It'll be a good game, probably the best game for the two teams until playoff time. There is nothing I can point to specifically, just a general uneasiness because of the unevenness of play that BU displayed on both offense and especially on defense. Just not always sharp and focused - almost like there were 11 "best players" on the field, but not a team unified and indivisible. But that is just 1 game and I wasn't able to hear what was being said on the field to and by teammates. The dead ball 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty really stands out. I sure hope I am wrong about what I saw.

I just had a quick minute to look at the box scores again, and the fourth-quarter gunslinger you faced last weekend, Jacob Aki, didn't even get a snap against SJU the week before.  Where did this masked man come from?  He's 19, a true freshman and weighs only 139 lbs dripping wet.  From Bothell, Washington.

If that quarter is an indication of what's to come out of Hamline, this guy may provide some great fun in a part of the competition that desperately needs it.

The third shutout in a row is worthy of taking a look at the history of Johnnie shutouts. There are some truly remarkable numbers. This is the first time since 1932 that the Johnnies started their first three games without allowing a point. They went from September 24, 1932 to October 28, 1933 without allowing a point. From 1931 to 1936 (six seasons) the Johnnies only allowed 117 in total (19.5 points per season). How many more shutouts can the Johnnies stack up? Only time will tell.

SJU Number of shutouts by season:

1965: 7
1932: 7 (Season shutout)
1935: 5
2021: 4
2018: 4
1998: 4
1957: 4
1946: 4
1936: 4
1934: 4
1933: 4
2025: 3
