Glad I didn't waste my time going to that.  Can we decide on a QB yet?

With this D they won't be close in a playoff game.
Bethel was far superior up front and 1 is quite the rb. But that goal line play calling was atrocious. And the D has not been good in several years.

Good God, St. John's!  The Defense literally is H.S. and apparently the coaching staff is, too.  Would be nice to see a deep playoff run again but we won't see that again until there are some major changes.  How that program has fallen!  Embarrassing.

Yep... out coached, out schemed, out played, out physicaled (i don't think that's a word) and out recruited. How the hell can't we get running backs like that? We haven't had a legit running game since Sam Sura. Also best QB on the field today was once a johnnie.

At this point you go with Feeney...let's say they're even (even though Feeney will never run the ball). He's your starter next year so let him take the reins and develop. Zander has been a good company man...and will still get plenty of playing time in mop up duty against the dregs of the MIAC.

That was a battle today. A few quick thoughts.

- Drew's 40ish yd TD pass to Terry in the 2nd quarter was a huge play. I think it was the only TD (or score?) going into the wind.
- Devon Williams was awesome all over. Great pick, a ton of huge hits. But no small thing was his tweak near the goal line. In the first half he blitzed off the edge and was just a little too deep on his angle, Wheeler TD. 3rd and goal in the second half he came down tighter and smoked Wheeler for a loss of 2. Subtle but big adjustment.
- Dylan Wheeler played well, but I don't think he's as effective running it as RB Wheeler. I get they want to get the ball to 2, but he's just too tall IMO to be shifty enough out of the backfield as a RB.
- Manns and Geebli were dudes. What an awesome 1-2 punch for the next few years.
- Both D lines made plays, but Bethel's back 7 were more physical.
- Bethel OLine played really well, that's a good unit and Janes at TE is tough.
- reminds you how good Syverson was. I think Bethel had the better team the last two years, but Syverson was just insane in his precision.
- young D for Bethel stood tall today, well done fellas!

Finally, I get it's a tough loss but two of the best teams in D3 played a physical, close game that came down to the final possessions of the 4th quarter. SJU is still a team that could do damage in the playoffs. I get you guys don't lose much, but you act as if the sky is falling. Bethel was a final play penalty away from the semi finals last year, and we lost to you twice. There's a ton of season left.

This 100%.  SJU is very good, and played another good team today.  Someone had to lose.  I think maybe you all grew a bit accustomed to (and I had become very tired of) the elite level of QB play that the last two SJU QB's offered, and now it's maybe down a bit and that's an adjustment.

I think SJU will still go at least a couple rounds into the playoffs.

I enjoyed the game.  I was impressed at how well BU played out of the gates with so much turnover in the squad.

It was a really great atmosphere Oz. Having the D1Rejects crew there was fun too. They do a nice job and it was cool to hear how they covered big matchups across all of small college football.

Carleton is looking pretty legit. Very interested to see how they matchup against SJU and BU. What a story for their QB.

If they do it will be on the road vs WIAC Champion, and that's turned out so well over the years....
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

The WIAC race isn't even close to over. That UWL v UWW game had horrific offensive numbers. I'm not sure there's a 10-0 team from the WIAC this year. UWRF is dangerous and can beat anyone, but also not consistent enough. Maybe it's UWO or UWL's year, but I'd love to see Logan Hansen's numbers on likelihood of any team coming out of the WIAC unscathed.

Honestly having gone back and watched yesterday's game, I think that was two top 10 teams battling it out.

DuffMan

As pissed off as I was yesterday (I had a bad feeling going into this one), Hazz is onto something.  It's not like SJU got blown out or lost to an unranked team.  Disappointing, yes, but close losses to highly ranked teams are going to happen, and with 40 playoff spots, I hope SJU's NPI will get them a spot pending they run the table with the rest of the MIAC.

Pollsters were a bit harsh on the Johnnies this week: https://www.d3football.com/top25/2025/week5

I expected them to be like 6th and 7th, or 7th and 8th in the poll. Like Hazz, I watched the replay and I thought they were pretty evenly matched.
