I think a lot of frustration with SJU was the play calling-why a deep handoff from inside the 1? Why still rotating QBs? Why put your more mobile QB in on 3rd and short-like Bethel doesn't know it's a QB run? The D, soft coverage and then get beat deep on a TD. These are real concerns going forward and could lead to another loss in miac.

Boys of Fall

Walking to my car yesterday I was as frustrated with the game as all other Johnnies were.  However, things probably aren't as bad as they initially seemed.  It will be a harsh film session for the boys.

We were inside the red zone three times yesterday and came away with 0 points (stopped on downs twice and a missed field goal).  This should have been at least 10-13 points and maybe more.  I haven't looked at the box score, but I suspect total yardage between the two teams was fairly close with Bethel rushing for more and the Johnnies passing for more.  What the boys will see is that this game could have easily been 20/23-17.

With that being said, the Johnnies do seem down this year and need to clean the execution up.  Unfortunately, if they are lucky enough to make the post-season it will probably be a one or maybe two and done.

Figured I would pop on because I figured some SJU fans would be saying ridiculous things...sure enough! BU is a top 10 team in the country. Tough loss for sure but I think we will be fine. How many of you negative nelly's would be willing to take my bet that says SJU wins out every game by double digits and has at least one home playoff game.

Also, the "high school defense" is allowing 4.25 PPG and held BU who was averaged over 50 to 17. I would agree with the sentiment that it is time to roll with a QB, and think Feeney is probably the guy it should be.

Not as harsh as all the Johnnies in this thread it seems
We still have the nicest Tailgating setup in the MIAC...which is nice....I guess :-\
As of now they're on DOUBLE SECRET Probation!

Quite the story in the comparative score results that Wheaton had vs Mount Union and vs North Central.

Pat Coleman

Agreed -- unless you think that Mount Union let Wheaton back into the game in Week 1 by taking its foot off the gas when it was up 37-7.

Ah, wasn't aware - had just seen the finals on both games. What's the old saying, something about 99% of statistics only tell 49% of the story, or something along those lines?

So the next potentially interesting MIAC matchup is Carleton vs SJU, to see how far Carleton has come?

Likely, seems like Bethel is 1A, Johnnies 1B, then Carleton and maybe the Cobbers after that?

As a Wheaton fan, having seen both NCC and Mt Union, North Central is significantly better up front on both sides than any team I have seen (including Mt Union) so far. Wheaton competed vs Mt Union on the OL/DL. They were never in it vs NCC. And FWIW, Mt Union never subbed out their 1st team defense and Wheaton scored 29 (vs zero against NCC). Mt Unions QB and WR's are very, very good. I also think Mt Union's OL is very strong.

Couple of random notes - Devin Williams made team of the week and won MIAC player of the week - he had a great game, that's for sure.

Last night I was reading on the D3 boards some of the comments, though I cannot find it this morning, but somebody quipped (perhaps Pappy?) that one of the coaches at UMHB said of Bethel, "They don't blink" when referring to how they prepare for opponents. I thought that was rather insightful.

A Bethel defensive back has won a team of the week honor...it just seems right.

Listening to the ATN podcast, I found it interesting that a condition Macalester had when rejoining the MIAC was that they would not regularly face St John's in football. I looked at the series history and the two teams last played on October 2001 back when I was still in college. Macalaster's last win in the series came in 1968. Does St John's shutout Macalester for their fourth shutout of the season? Looking at stats for all levels of college football, St John's is leading all levels in scoring defense despite the points Bethel scored in Saturday's loss.

It was my junior year. :o The game was at Mac, and the weather was beautiful.  That's about all the good you can say about it.

Yes.
