Quote from: sfury on October 18, 2025, 06:32:31 PMWe can still enjoy good performances without thinking SJU hasn't had a good defense since 2003 just because they give up a third and 15.

100%!

I think if you look back at box scores from "the good old days", you'd be surprised.  SJU barely beat a mediocre U$T team in '03.  Even good defenses give up yards, plays, and even *gasp* touchdowns.

A maybe underrated all-time Johnnie defense I thought of recently was 1998. Novak of course but some just studs. Joe Kaczrowski was an All-American lineman I'd play pickup hoops with few years earlier when I was in school. But here's the point totals they gave up, back when MIAC was much more balanced:

6, 0, 13, 13, 3, 0, 13, 0, 0, 13, 20 (Pacific Lutheran, who were offensive wizards and won title year later), 10 to Eau Claire in playoff loss.

Darwin Dumonceaux and Tepler up front with Kacz  :o

A tradition unrivaled...

National Champions: '63, '65, '76, '03

The Kacz knee injury at practice during the playoffs was a killer.  The fumbled snap at the goal line (not Linnemann's fault) almost cost me an FCC violation and fine as I was doing color and came millimeters away from say F____

Maybe we didn't submit his name, but I'm pretty surprised Rundell didn't make MIAC Offensive POTW or D3 TOTW with 11 rec, 246 yds, 2 TD's plus the BU single game record. Not sure why JHU WR got the nod in a similar type blowout with (still great) but lesser stats in a non-record breaking preformance.

After evaluating my process for the D3football.com Team of the Week, I've tried very hard this year (and last year) to prioritize a little bit around the quality of the opponent as well. So, if you see that someone gets on our Team of the Week in a game against Macalester or the Macalester or Hamline equivalent of another conference, you have to assume that that performance stood out so far among the rest of the nominees that I had no choice.

Everyone's school record is different, and a school record doesn't generally weigh into my process. I will include the note about a school record in the blurb for a player if the info is provided, but it isn't something that helps me decide who to choose.

Was that Viebrock?  Is he going to come back at some point, or was it bad enough to end his season?

DuffMan

LOL, Mac and Hamline are so bad that gaudy performances against them don't count.  ;D

What I came here to ask also, I figured it was either no submission, or based on Quality of Opp. Guess I would prefer the second if that was the case.

Poor Ole's, being lumped in with Mac and Hamline...Guess Rundell will need to go for over 300 against Mac on Saturday.

Is there even a way to know beyond if one of the coaches says it into a Mic? My expectation in D3 if a player is injured/etc is "well I'll know if I see them on the field"

Not that playing St. Olaf is disqualifying -- playing Ursinus was better.

Still fighting the good fight...probably will cave today or tomorrow.
59 for an interior temp is getting a little low. We have cheated by turning on the fireplace and using a space heater.

You're clearly not aware of the Hazz connections.   ;)

Still master of my domain, but woke up to the house at 64 degrees this morning. My wife is starting to complain. However, we made it past fall break in which my daughter was home from CSB and is always cold. Trying to make it to the weekend without the furnace!

I heard he'll be done. Interesting medical hardship wrinkle. Technically you have to play in no more than 30% of a teams games to qualify. So in a 10 game regular season, game 4 or later injury means you don't get the season back.

What about the playoffs? Assuming Bethel makes it, has a rd 1 bye and wins rd 2. Could a player come back and participate, just making sure they stay under the 30% threshold? I know there's a first half of the season qualifier, but I'm not sure if anyone has tried this loop hole.

Viebrock played game 1, missed games 2-10. Could he play in Rd 2 Rd 3 and still preserve his medical hardship?? I'm assuming no and you wouldn't want to risk losing the season. But it's an interesting wrinkle to think about.

Thanks!  The man with the knowledge, as usual.

Of course this is my perspective as someone who never saw beyond the JV field, but shoot, if you're in the playoffs and can play, I'd sure take that shot.  You never know if you're going to get a chance at another run in your "extra" year.
