Also in Texas there are 2 sports seasons: football and spring football.  Maybe he just forgot that he was playing baseball and not preparing for spring drills.

I neglected to acknowledge his solid form on the tackle.

Perhaps baseball needs to become a contact/collision sport. The batting team could put some blockers out on the field to block for the runner(s). The defense could tackle runners. This could be the start of something big!

I'm in two minds on this baseball tackle.  One mind is "This is outrageous and morons shouldn't be doing this stuff."  The other mind is "without the camera phones I would have never known about this and wouldn't have cared because it didn't concern me."

I feel indignant and disinterested at the same time.  A rare combination.

It's sort of like hearing about fisticuffs somewhere around town.  You see it on film and are outraged.  You hear about the neighbourhood kids throwing punches at each other and think, "Meh, boys will be boys.  They gotta sort themselves out."

I've started watching a lot of silly cat videos.  Those little critters can sure make you laugh.

MIAC honors Dr. Ken Jones with Distinguished Service Award

Dr. Jones is the third individual from Saint John's to be honored with the MIAC Distinguished Service Award, joining legendary SJU coaches John Gagliardi (2013) and Jim Smith (2015)

The Jag's drift was good for Bartch.  It looks to me like they plan on him being the starting left guard this season.

Guys, I think SJU just clinched the Durenberger Trophy over the weekend.

The MIAC Tennis season just wrapped up this weekend. Gustavus won their 33rd consecutive MIAC Tennis title and 54th title in the last 52 years (which is insane, by the way), and the Johnnies finished fourth. The tennis results, combined with SJU baseball's sweep of Gustavus yesterday, means Johnnie baseball can finish the season with no worse than a .650 win percentage, and thus, finish no lower than a tie for fifth. The worst-case scenario of a fifth place tie would net the Johnnies 7.5 points in the Durenberger standings, giving them a total of 83.5 points. No other school can score more than 82.5.

Haugen's boys have been on quite the wild ride this season, they have some guys who can pound the ball, but Jerry doesn't seem to have the consistent arms that he usually gets. I watched some of yesterday's DH at GAC and the host Swedes seemed to be playing d with their winter choppers on.

Here's the 2nd game linescore.

Saint John's Univ...    951 021 5 - 23 20  3
Gustavus Adolphus... 124 301 0 - 11 11  8

Yeah, the Johnnies scored 36 runs in the doubleheader. Brutal showing if you're GAC pitching and defense. Offense was serviceable. Under any ordinary circumstances, SJU either gets swept or splits the series by giving up 15 runs between two games. You should not lose when you score 11 runs in a game.

In other news, the Gustavus women's athletic programs clinched the Pat Wiesner All-Sports Competition Trophy. The Gustavus women have been dominant all year, scoring three conference championships, four runner-up finishes, a third, and a fourth place finish.

The Durenberger and Wiesner trophies are each going to a school not located at the corner of Cretin and Summit for the first time since the 2006-07 season, when SJU and Gustavus, respectively, took home the prize.

Bethel and SJU have each clinched a spot in the 2022 MIAC Baseball Playoffs.

Bethel can clinch a share of the MIAC Regular Season title with a split over Concordia on Saturday OR an SJU loss.

The Johnnies can still win the Regular Season title, but not without help. Here are the scenarios:

Johnnies win outright IF: Johnnies sweep 10th place Augsburg on Saturday AND Concordia sweeps Bethel (not particularly likely, but possible... I guess)
Johnnies clinch a share IF: Johnnies sweep Augsburg AND Bethel splits the series with Concordia
Johnnies also clinch a share IF: Johnnies split with Augsburg AND Concordia sweeps Bethel

There is a scenario for a THREE WAY championship tie IF: Concordia Sweeps Bethel AND Johnnies split with Augsburg AND EITHER Gustavus OR Concordia go undefeated in their other remaining games (GAC has 4 games left, Concordia 6 games left--they play each other twice in their final games, so its not possible for all of them to go undefeated the rest of the way out).

Not that it tells us much, but the Johnnies throttled the Winnipeg Rifles 60-7 in Canadia this afternoon.

It tells us that the Rifles didn't have many bullets in their guns.
