Took a look at the highlight reel and I would have to say Fremantle was dismantled by the Hawks.

Yeah, Hawthorn's work rate was through the roof. Running hard both directions. Repeat efforts. Off the ball hard running. It was an exceptional finals-quality effort.  And the tackle pressure was immense. Freo had no free space and they panicked with ball in hand. Poor decisions. Skill errors.

Meanwhile, Hawthorn's offensive running created a bounty of options and Freo just didn't commit to the gut running needed off the ball to shut the hawks down.

The aspect of Aussie Rules I most like is the aerobic extreme it demands. Winning a game is almost entirely determined by a team's commitment to push through the pain barrier and run harder for faster for longer than the opposition. And in finals that gets turned to 11. The more players you have willing to out run their direct opponent sets the win up. And hawthorn had a balanced, gut running effort that went 23 players deep yesterday. Freo were smashed.

Now we've got two weeks to recover and will be playing one of Adelaide, the Bulldogs, Sydney or Brisbane at the MCG in a Prelim Final.  I can't wait to be there for that. It will be a packed house of 96k and the atmosphere will be electric.

I kind of alluded to this earlier this summer, but this is a very strange start in the MIAC this year. All ten teams are playing the first week to get in their non-conference games. None of them opted to play their non-conference game the second week. However, the Oles play the Cobbers a week ahead of everyone else's first week of conference play during that second week for a non-conference game. My guess is that something is going on up at Concordia the following week, or that the Oles have somewhere to be the third week. Anybody got the skinny to know what's shakin' that second week?

In an era when athletes can seem to magically gain an inch, ten pounds, or both overnight, it's unusually strange that Bethel QB Cooper Drews has actually shrunk an inch since last season. 🤗

Must be the weight of such of such lofty expectations!

Good morning fellow Division III super fans & Johnnie faithful! The long-awaited return of college football is here & kickoff for a challenging battle between #11 St John's & #10 La Crosse is a little over 7 hours away as I type this! Will be interested to see how Bethel plays against North Central. Wild that, for St John's, there's already no margin for error as a loss today could force a win & you're in (to the playoffs) for the rest of the season. I'm hoping they have the magic on their side & look like a contender! Nervous as always.

Does anyone know if livestream access will have a pay per game option? The way it looks now they're only offering a season pass for $60. I'm not sure many UW-Lax fans that can't make the trip to Collegeville will be terribly happy paying $60 for an SJU season pass just to watch one game. Maybe the single game option will go live as game time gets closer? If the only option is a season pass I will be officially be embarrassed by SJU. What a cheap way to gouge the fans of our guest opponent.

I was planning to attend today but had a long week and am not feeling great this morning. Sat down and did a little math'in and am leaning toward buying the season pass. I figure just driving up to Collegeville and back will cost me $40 plus my $15 ticket and other incidentals and I'm up to about $80...then add in the 3 hours on the road. I also know I won't be able to attend other home games so why not just pay the $60 so I can watch those too. I can be at home doing laundry, watch a couple other games at the same time and use the time I would have been on the road to mow the lawn or something. God I'm turning into an old fart!

Also when you click on the Buy Tickets link and hover over the seating sections it shows "General Admission From $7.00." Then you click on it and it shows "Adult $15" and "Student/Youth (ages 6-17)." Kind of BS setting in my opinion. The $15 is about in line with other schools as UWRF charges $13.95 and UW-Lax charges $11.

I ripped our running game today but we got in done on the ground on the final drive. Maybe they can build on that!
It's easy to second guess but with 2 timeouts and the 2 minute timeout I think Lax should have kicked deep and tried to pin us. All they needed was a field goal and their kicker seemed to have a pretty good leg.
Need to figure out the first and goal situations and not take as much time at the line of scrimmage reading the defense. Those delay of game penalties can't happen.
Good win against a potential WIAC champion.
How far does BU drop and how high does SJU climb in the rankings?

Wheaton defeated Mount Union. Mount Union had only lost 19 games going back to 1998 going into today. Only 2 conference losses in that time frame. North Central stays at 1. Wheaton jumps to 2. St John's to 3. LOL!

(Edit...Bethel moved the ball very well against NCC and out gained them statistically and ran 91 plays to the 63 NCC ran. They also threw 3 interceptions, maybe fumbled once and missed a field goal. It was a much closer game than the score indicated.)
