I should clarify that I actually don't have anything against Dany Heatly...or Todd Bertuzzi. They both were in situations where they made choices that resulted in outcomes/consequences that were far beyond what I think either intended. It is sad all the way around. :(

I am not aware of the heat that Heatly got into.

As far as Bertuzzi's deal, he may not have wanted it to end up that bad, but he certainly was full of evil intent.

Hey Buckman! I didn't hear any big SPLATs or read about any skydiving accidents lately...did you survive? Your shorts?

Frankrickard sends his regards to all. Apparently a bunch of drunk guys thought it would be funny to call him last week at 1:30 a.m. after spending the evening at the brewery. The nerve of some people! :-X

As far as Bertuzzi's deal, he may not have wanted it to end up that bad, but he certainly was full of evil intent.

In 2003 he was involved in a single car accident where he hit a wall spliting his Ferrari in half and ejecting him and his his passenger teammate Dan Snyder. Heatley suffered a broken jaw, a minor concussion, a bruised lung and kidney and tore three ligaments in his knee. Snyder suffered a skull fracture, fell into a coma and died six days later. Heatley plead guilty to second-degree vehicular homicide, driving too fast for conditions, failure to maintain a lane and speeding and was sentenced to three years probation. In 2006, there was a certain amount of outcry due to him, Bertuzzi and Shane Doan being named to Team Canada for the Olympics.

I don't know that Bert's "evil intent" was any worse than that of many other players that head hunt during a game. Dirty hits are nothing new in the NHL. He was just unlucky enough to have the outcome of his actions be life changing for everyone involved. His sucker punch certainly falls outside "the code" in hockey, but historically, he really wasn't thought of as a dirty player. He is now...

So I got the Ferrari part right?  ???

That was a fluke.

I figured from your comments the other day that it had something to do with a car accident.

Bennie: Au contrare.  Bertuzzi is forever a scumbag in St. Paul.  Was before the incident with Steve Moore and will be thereafter.  Ask the Wild faithful.  He is Enemy #1.

RE: Heatley

I interned with the Florida Everblades (ECHL AA hockey) while at SJU and the PR man/radio broadcaster went to school with Dany at Wisconsin-Madison and played on the hockey team with him.  They were good buddies and it was strange around the front office to say the least following the incident in Buckhead in Atlanta.  Very sad, but just another example of how fragile life can be.

Attention Godfather: When is your party?  Am I invited?  Will you be having any celebrities in attendance (maybe Terri Traen, Bethel football coach Steve Johnson, or BlueDevil Bob)??

Was that because of dirty play or because he is a physical player that is freakin pain in the patootie when he parks himself infront of the net? :P

Twins win 5-3 this afternoon. Nathan gets Sosa out swinging, with runners at 1st and 2nd. Sosa pinch-hitting for Vazquez, who was 2 for 4 today.  ???

Another tater for Morneau (14), a solo shot in the 3rd.

Back when the wild made their run into the Western finals a few years ago, and they were in the series against Vancouver, Bertuzzi ran into some fans at the X waiting to buy tickets for game 6 (this was after game 4, and Vancouver was up 3-1 in the series at this point), and he said to them "don't waste your time-- there won't be a game 6".  Couple that with some disparaging remarks about the Wild and Minnesota fans in the media and he became persona non grata in St. Paul.  So it was no surprise to us that he finally came out to the rest of the country as a goon-- his reputation was cemented  here well before that.

24 hours until I hit the road on my birthday weekend heading for the Indy 500 me boyz! (and bennie)  ;D

HBD BDB!

Are you going on one of those high roller deals with the petroleum company and a sweet suite venue? I managed a couple of those when a photographer buddy of mine was working for Skoal.

I did Indy for about 15 years with time trials one weekend and then two weeks later for the race. Great seats on turn one about 8 rows from the track. Flying debris and everything! It was alot of fun but it always took away the Memorial Day weekend plus the cost became so outrageous for rooms, etc. A Red Roof Inn that I paid $35/night during any other part of the year was $150/night and you had a three day minimum. $105 VS $450 ouch! Now I am sure it is even more. Family stuff too.

Have a safe trip. I'll wave to you from home! :) No debris but no traffic either!
WELCOME TO THE MACHINE!

Raider, this is a junket on the tab of US Tobacco (Skoal,Copenhagen).

We just have to make it down there and they take care of the rest. We'll be hanging' in their suite.  :)

I'm looking forward to the National Anthem jet flyover.  8)

BDB,

In this politically correct world you really are in trouble aren't you.  In bed with big OIL, big TOBACCO, big BEER.  You are a target for the PC crowd aren't you.  Have a great Bday weekend and great time at Indy.

I guess you are right Dutch.

I'm really just a choirboy like Bertuzzi.  ;)

Have fun and Happy Birthday! I personally don't get the thrill of watching car racing. If they don't let me drive, what's the point? ;)

Come on, the comments to the fans/about the city just make him cocky sob, not a dirty player! ;) If nothing else, paybacks a b*tch. He went from beautiful Vancouver (if you have never been, it is worth a trip...it is a fantastic city) to Detroit! I will admit that one of the reasons I dislike Hasek is because of comments that he made about one of my teams. That doen't make him dirty, but the fact that when you gently blow on him he will drop like he's dead does make him a diver! ;D
