UW-La Crosse 80
North Park 67

William Bates: 19 pts (8-12 FG)
Kolden Vanlandingham: 13 pts, 11 rebs, 7:2 a:to, 3 stls
Mike Vuckovic: 6:2 a:to

The Vikings were hanging around with the preseason #7 Eagles well into the second half, but then UWL, which had been ice-cold from downtown, got hot and gained separation -- while the Vikings, who haven't shot the trey well in any of their three initial contests, continued bricking them and couldn't get the UWL lead back down to single digits late.

UWL is every bit as good as their preseason ranking (and wins in Virginia over likewise-preseason-ranked Hampden-Sydney and Virginia Wesleyan) would indicate. JJ Paider is a 6'8", 230 beast who is averaging over 28 ppg and 8 rpg now, and Dustin Derousseau and Sam Grieger and big, highly skilled guards who can dominate at both ends of the floor; Grieger in particular really erased Mike Vuckovic's offensive game today and turned him into a mere facilitator.

This was a healthy smack in the mouth for the Vikings, who will gain much more from trying to hang with a team like UW-La Crosse than they did in beating teams like Lake Forest and Alma.

IWU over UW Oshkosh, playing much better tonight, winning the championship game of the Sikma Hall of Fame Invitational at the Shirk, 75-68.

For UMO:
Beck 17
Kangas 12
Thomas 10

For IWU:
Funk 16
Cleveland 16 and 14
Fridman 15

Titans shooting 44% from the field, but only 17% from three.  This is not a strong shooting team. The difference a 40-20 advantage in points in the paint.

Funk named to All-tournament team, and Cleveland name MVP of the tournament.  Well deserved in both cases.  Fridman is amazing.  And, Lawrence played better tonight, especially on the defensive end.

Titans open 2-0.

Glad to see the Titans playing in the 70s tonight, with a much better range of offensive contributors.

A work in progress . . .

Like Greg said, UWL got hot from downtown in the last quarter of the game whereas NP failed.  Oddly, the Vikings seemed hesitant, especially the V Brothers after each made his first attempt.  The undersized Vikings repeatedly penetrated the paint, ending with a blocked shot.

NP kept this game interesting until the last nine minutes or so.
