Vanderwal talked about the difficulties of transition at the GLI.  He noted, with some respect, at how well Brooks had taught his system.  It's near impossible to change instincts and when his guys are used to doing things without thinking and he wants them to do different things, it leads to mistakes.

They'll figure it out, but it'll definitely be an up and down process.  When they're working, it's a very good team.

BIG win for Calvin today over UW-Oshkosh, 89-52.
The game was decided in a 10-minute stretch in the first half when the Knights' smothering defense triggered a 29-0 run.
Balanced attack with five players in double figures and a complete team effort to thump the 17th ranked visitors from Oshkosh.

Wow, GoodKnight, a 29 to 0 run against a top 20 opponent must have been a jaw-dropping, almost weird experience. Meanwhile, Hope--despite cold shooting three-point shooting this weekend--managed two wins against Ohio teams . . . including escaping in a come-from-behind win on two Hovey free throws with 10 seconds left. Their attacking defense can be credited with the win last night, generating a big turnover difference. Hopefully the distance shooting will pick up when they return to the friendly DeVos confines for their next three games.

It might have ended up technical come from behind win but Hope had an 11 point lead into the 2nd half before it became a back and forth type final few minutes.  Disappointing to let that lead go.  Second time maybe running out of legs on the two game weekend.

Couple good defensive stands at the end aided the win.

Notable news from the weekend was that Hope started Fr. Cargill and Sanchez at guard with Wourman both nights sacrificing Charlie Howell to sub status.  Brady Miller whose been largely absent got some pt this weekend too.

Pretty tough stretch coming up before the league kicks off.   Platteville, North Central, Whitewater, WashU and Muskingum.  But, all at home.

Then kick off MIAA play with Trine and Olivet.

Hope plays 10 of their next 12 at Home.
