Give all the credit to Mount Union tonight.  They played better.  They were the aggressor all night. Their three point shooting last night and tonight was unbelievably good.  I didn't think they could match last night's 15-31 but they followed it up with 14-30 tonight.

Jordan Daley and Austin Parks played very well for Calvin.  Cameron Denney had a good second half.  As others said, Jordan Brink, uncharcteristically struggled. You have to credit MU for some of that.

Calvin cut the lead to five at the 9:30 second mark of the second half.  I thought they were back in it but MU buried 3 three pointers in row while Calvin came up empty and the lead was back to 14 with 7 minutes to go.  That was the last legitimate chance Calvin had.

KVS tried some different things with by starting Huizenga and playing zone to try and slow MU down but tonight it wasn't enough.

Didn't see the men's game tonight but I understand Jordan Brink had a pretty tough finale. Still one of the best guards I've ever seen don the maroon and gold. Thanks also to Dykstra, Stout and Huizenga for their contributions to the program and best wishes to them all.

Mr. Ypsi

My apologies to Calvin fans (and Jordan Brinks) - I jinxed him. :o  I'm in the one-and-done fantasy contest (pick any players, but only have them for one game).  For today one of my players was Brinks.  I also had Smith of Scranton - yesterday he led the whole tourney with 47 fantasy points; today he had 10.  Me selecting a player is the 'kiss of death'.  Again, very sorry! :-[

the hay is in the barn....

The Baltimore Ravens PBP guy says this and it drives me nuts... the difference, I don't think he is being all that creative or does it make sense for the team... here... I give you a +k :)

Wasn't really able to make out how physical the game was played on my phone. Did mt Union play very physically, or did Calvin just have a game where they couldn't hold on to the ball.

I would say it was a little physical and that MU maybe got some homecooking but the refs had very little to do with it. Calvin couldn't stop the 3 (trademark) and no one really got going for the Knights. Not the way you'd like to see Jordan Brink's career end but I agree, one of the best guards to wear a Calvin uni. I was talking to a friend the other day about his scoring total and the players he was grouped with. I'd choose him before Veldhouse and between he and Knoester, depending on what you were wanting that day, it'd be a tough choice.

I suspect you did not grow up on a farm or anywhere near dairy counrty.  "The hay being in the barn" is a good thing, and generally it meant that it (the hay) was under protective cover without getting wet.  To a midwesterner it can be taken as the job is done or a job well done.
A recently retired Calvin radio announcer used this line for many years as a signal to Calvin fans he thought Calvin had clinched a game.  He would say that right before he would say it was time for "a dish of Hudsonville ice cream" one of the main sponsors.
"If you are catching flack it means you are over the target".  Brietbart.

Oh... I totally understand the reference and get why it makes sense more in that part of the country... but it makes no sense and has no reference to Baltimore. Furthermore, he has on occasion uttered the statement when the game is still very well in question - nearly drove off the road in anger listening one game.

This may cause a little friendly debate, but it my mind the 5 all time best guards to wear a Calvin uniform were:  Douma, Phelps, Knoester, Veldhouse, Brink.  I believe Jordan was the most talented.

Of that quintet Brink is as talented (basketball wise) as any of them though he wasn't the best athlete. That honor goes to either Phelps or Knoester and I'm leaning towards Phelps who was named conference MVP in two sports--basketball and baseball. However, Jordan is unopposed as the finest free throw shooter ever at Calvin, finishing his career 309-341 which checks in at 90.6%. I don't think I'll live long enough to see a better shooter from the stripe than Brink.

You have already lived long enough to see something better.  Nick Goeglein is hitting at a blistering 100% clip from the charity stripe.

Yeah, well my daughter's senior year of high school she led her team in three point shooting (75%), free throw shooting (76.5%) and overall field goal percentage. Yet it was her teammate--who finished second in all those categories--who went on to play in college (Hope of all places) and somehow become D3 National POY. ;) Still trying to figure out how that happened. :-\

The Michigan HS boys basketball tournament starts tonight.  East Kentwood(20-0), Forest Hills Central (20-0) and Muskegon (19-1, only loss to East Kentwood) are heavily favored in their districts this week.  Those 3 teams (the 4th team is the Byron Center district winner) will be at a regional next week at West Ottawa.  That final on Wednesday should be state championship quality.

Since High School basketball was brought up, any news about how recruiting is going for our favorite schools?
