I'm glad everything is comcastic down here in South Florida!

Hopefully for those in WNY, they will get an agreement and be able to watch the BCS, NFC Playoffs, and other FOX progamming.  Time Warner has seemed to have lots of disagreements lately...geesh.

yes go to alfred if you want to have to drive an hour and a half to get to any airport or sign of life

Alfred: the only distractions to one's studies are the squirrels and deer; ideal setting for a serious student...and a football player who wants a life after his collegiate playing days are over.

It may be "ideal" for the "serious" student, but it sounds altogether boring.  The social atmosphere is a big part of college as well....and I'm sure many football players in less "boring" college areas have gotten a life after their playing years were over.

I don't think that is too strong of an argument.  Plus I think the insanity rate there must be much much higher  :P

Actually, Alfred grows on the students. One must be a little more imaginative to entertain oneself for certain, but said social dilemma of which you speak is non-existent. Gosh, 5,500 students in a one-traffic-light town yields plenty of green lights for socializing. AU has a fabulous Student Activities Dept. run by AU alums who, coming from such social meccas as Long Island (plenty of opportunity to chat on the L.I.E.) and spent four years on campus, know what works for the students. Weekends are anything but boring.

Grows on you like mold! ---

If you say so, I won't make any more comments because I didn't go there and don't know the situation of being a student there.

Regarding suggested "insanity rate," AUPepBand concedes defeat in the argument, he being a perfect example of what an Alfred life sentence will do to a fellow.  :-[

+k to you, pg04 for winning the argument!

and +K to you for being the only one on the boards right now! hahaha.

AUPepBand

Thanks! How's' the weather in Florida.....you're in the Tampa area, correct?

Actually, I'm in the West Palm Beach Area... I believe it is the Chairman Jose who is in Tampa.  The weather has cooled slightly but warming back up again.  Over the holiday weekend I was actually in Daytona, and there were a couple F2 Tornados that ripped through the area!   :o

pg04

The clever headline in the newspaper stated:

"Merry Twistmas!"

AUPepBand

Very clever. Pep loves clever headlines.

Alfred Sun beat reporter entered a Literacy Volunteers scrabble tournament and won. Headline in the SUN read: "_________ never at a loss for words"

AUPepBand will be in DeLand (not far from Daytona) March 5-9, 2007 building a couple houses with 30 Alfred students in partnership with the West Volusia affiliate of Habitat for Humanity. Great time....and appreciated relief from Alfred March weather.

Are there any lasertag places near DeLand/Orange City/Daytona that would offer cheap rates to college students building houses for Habitat on Spring Break?

I'm not altogether sure about that Pep as I didn't partake in any such activities, although I was also in Deland this past weekend, as my Aunt's best friends lived in a trailer community that was almost completely demolished by the tornados.  Luckily theirs wasn't and they were with us at my Aunt's House in Daytona during the tornados so they didn't have to even go through the terror (although one got pretty close to us too...)

I'm sure that the habitat for humanity will be needed now, more than ever as several families have been left without any homes!

Chairman Jose is in Tampa?  Then he should know just the other day I was in Cacciatore Brothers on MLK (formerly Buffalo Ave.)  and La Segunda Central on 15th Street stocking up on holiday essentials!

The Chairman is in fact a native Tampan but he hasn't been into La Segunda in about 5 years.  I usually get my Cubans (for all you yankees that refers to sandwiches) at Havana Village or Hugo's.  What High School does your son attend?  He isn't, by chance, a member of the 2006 State Champion Plant Panthers is he?

Wow, that looks devastating. Thanks for posting! AUPepBand and AU students stay in Duvall Campground just off US 17 north of DeLand and drive by the Brandywine Shopping Plaza each day during their Spring Break Blitz Build. Pep is familiar with locations described and will contact Habitat officials there for further info re: Habitat homes (AU students in partnership with West Volusia Habitat has built at least 14 of the affiliate's 60+ new houses around DeLand over the past 10 years) and the Duvall Campground. Pep wonders whether "hurricane straps" he specializes in fastening held fast through said tornado.

The straps should have held, if they are capable of holding hurricane winds off...  The Tornados had wind strengths around what a Category 3 Hurricane would have had....  Like I said your habitat mission will be much needed this year!  Kudos to you, I would give a +K but I did that already last night!

Sir Spiedie

No, we live in Lakeland. He goes to George Jenkins HS.

Upstate,

I'm surprised none of our Niagara county towns got on the dive list!

Thats because our towns are so small that I bet no one other than you, Mr. N and myself have ever heard of Newfane and Wilson.

Seriously those towns listed on the "dive" list are like a booming metropolis compared to our neck of the woods.
