Red Sox Nation... gro has a disturbing update to the recent rise of "new" redsox fans.  It has reached as far inland as Tennessee.  More and more these days gro has seen many a toolbag walking around in fresh beantown gear (a lot are bartenders, weird).  They rehash lines from old Bill Simmons columns, and tell you how much they hate the Yankees.

Please send a team to the southeast Tennessee area to conduct interviews with these people. If you accept them as redsox fans, take them back with you.

Thanks,
MGMT

Atleast most of the Sox fans where I live are from up there, and moved her for good reason...(weather, beach, real estate, etc)  Something tells me the big migration didn't move to TN.  Tell those people that LD11 will put a hurting on them if they mess with the 'Gro, and/or act like loud and obnoxious wannabees.  Man I hate that.  I love winning, but I liked being taken as a serious fan, before all these johnny come lately's.  Don't even get me started on the Patriots bandwagon.

'Gro, remember that time I got wasted at Colvin circle and was making K's on Post-It notes and putting them on the wall when Pedro was mowing down Spankees?  GOod times.

These cats haven't been within 200 miles of boston in their life.  And they're in their 20's... meaing they should already have a favorite team. If they like Boston so much send a bus to pick them up next February, they'll love it. Gro understands when the youngin's attach themselves to a team in another location.

JT dislikes the wannabees from both sides.  Running into "Red Sox fans" with brand new or almost new gear.... especially the hat drives JT nuts.   This is the guy that likes to start sh*t with JT on vacation. 2004 is all they know.

JT will then roll out Rice, Yaz, Carbo, Tiant, Teddy Ballgame, Hobson, Boggs, Fred Lynn etc.  If JT knows more about Red Sox then the guy wearing the hat, something is up.  I'm not talking about some kid either.  Dood is a least JT's age.  One guy thought Ted Williams played for the Orioles.

A  well worn hat is one sign of a true Sox fan.

A wannabee Yankee fan will wear a Mets hat if the team from Queens is playing better.  He's already seen a dood in the building switching from Yankee to Mets gear this past May.

Ok Gro -

The next time you run into these "new" TN based Sox fans please have them take the
TGP Sox Fan quiz:

Which Sox player used to wear #8 and played LF for the Sox?

What's Dewey Evans first name?

Who was "Oil Can" Boyd?

Which former Sox player had the nick name "El Guapo"?

Who was "Pudge"?

If they can't answer any of these questions correctly, you have TGP's blessing to kick them in the nuts and call them a herb.

Thank you,

The wannabe Mets fans are the ones driving me nuts right now.  I used to get the free tix from work all the time ... now they're playing well and everyone's a fan.  BS.

Exactly.  Any Sox or Yankee "fan" who doesn't know who these guys are - or Bucky "F-ing" Dent is a herb.  Plain and simple.

TGP bets that even as a longtime Yanks fan you know all the answers to TGP's Sox Quiz.

JT

JT's been able to carry on real baseball conversations with true Red Sox fans.  Real pain/passion comes through when a Red Sox fan talks.  You can't fake that.

Yep. JT is a big baseball fan in general.  We used to play what if:  Williams and DiMaggio trade (actually talked about).  Swap Pudge and Munson.  Remy and Randolph etc.

DO you really think any of those trades would have made a difference?  Ted Williams, Fisk, and Remy are all staples in Red Sox history.  As are your guys.  The 'what if' would be like 'what if Biff Tannen got the Gray's Sports Almanac' and we got to see it.  History was changed forever.  But in this case, it's not black and white.  I just can't imagine seeing any of those guys in a Yankees uni.

labart96

Yeah - TGP wouldn't change a thing.  It's what makes the rivalry so great.
