"...The Univ. of Rochester certainly deserves their #1 ranking but the voters should know that the last time they were defeated was in the NCAA's last March 2nd by Plattsburgh 61-60..."

And If I recall not very many gave the Cards much chance of even being within 15 points of the U of R, playing a game in Rochester at St John Fisher.   I was going to save that bit of trivia for this March when the seeding come out and the East bracket is played in Rochester on the U of R's home court.

And even fewer people gave them much of a chance of sinking a halfcourt shot at the buzzer to win by 1.

"...I think they can be a top 10 team and can do some serious damage in the ncaa tourny if they stay disciplined enough, but, two losses to unranked teams dont help...."

I believe that Occidental was ranked and was something like 5-2 at the time  (now 13-3).
Gordon is currently 11-3.

It's not like one of Plattsburgh's losses was to St John Fisher  :o

Quite true, but they (Plattsburgh) were that close at the buzzer and Anthony Made the shot.  It wasn't a desperation HEAVE, it was a legitimate NBA 3 point jump shot that SWISHED.    AND they overcame a 15 point deficit to beat the U of R.   15 points down with 9 minutes and change to go.

They did.  And their full court press was very effective in the second half.  And they managed to "overcome"  Brackney shooting 0-10 and Onyiriuka's 6-15 from inside 3 feet.  And unless they moved the NBA three-point line back to a step inside halfcourt when I wasn't looking, it was a heave.  An amazingly accurate one.

I really don't mean to take anything away from the Cards.  It was a teriffic game and I was a somewhat impartial observer at the time.  Hell, I'm a SUNY grad myself.  But I don 't think you should base this year on that particular result.

The North Country comment will stand though. Those guys got to be related--You got to be at least 10 points better than the home team to win up there. Seen it way too many times!!! Ask any of the coaches not from the area.

May be a bit of historical folklore here.  These days. very few men's D-III college refs even live in the North Country.  This past weekend, the Bears had two outside crews, one from Syracuse, the other from who knows where.  How is it an advantage to the NC teams when we play Cortland and the refs are from Syracuse? (and half of the refs were phys ed majors at either Cortland or Brockport.)

I will say that the SUNYAC has it's ugly road trips,  Potsdam/Plattsburgh to Fredonia is no prize, either are the Rochester teams having to drive through 200 miles of constant lake effect to get to Potsdam, that may have more to do with performance than alleged favortism of NC refs.  In general, I can't think of a single ref I've seen over the last 6 seasons that I would say has unfairly favored the home team.

Speaking of Lake Effect, I believe Oswego may have feet of snow as of this weekend.   I agree with TheBear, going over to Lake Erie was no picnic back in the day.  Going down to Binghamton and Cortland wasn't either.
Of course back then, Potsdam and Plattsburgh usually could win both games fairly easily. I never saw a Brockport loss, or a loss to Geneseo in league play from 1975-80.  We made the Buffalo dual games once in an old International Suburban-like tank and two vista-cruiser wagons.   I never heard so many BIG (Tall) babies crying about leg room in my life.    I don't even think it was legal for a college student to be driving other students in a state owned vehicle (even back in those days).   I remember blowing a tire going 75+ mph on the road up to Montreal Canada to scrimmage McGill University.  Scared the living crap out of the passengers let alone the driver (me).

And to think Dan Mueller's, father was going to hire me...
Where is that kid now ?   Is he playing semi-pro or anything ?

FYI  Dan Mueller's father played on the same High School team
with Plattsburgh Coach Tom Curle (Waterloo NY).  Another member
of their squad was a guy named John Schweitz

Position: Guard
Height: 6-6    Weight: 210 lbs.
Born: April 19, 1960 in Waterloo, New York
High School: Waterloo in Waterloo, New York
College: University of Richmond

Drafted by the Boston Celtics in the 6th round (23rd pick, 138th overall) of the 1982 NBA draft.
also played for Seattle and Detriot

The burg has recruted better than the port? Are you serious with that? The fact of the matter is that it is alot easier to get accepted at the burg than it is at the PORT. That is not my opinion that is a fact.

You are correct. Fisher did beat Plattsburgh LAST year, but it was the round of 32. Brockport beat Fisher by 14 in the sweet 16 in Fisher's gym.

Plattsburgh had to play Rochester the night before they played Fisher and we all know about the big comeback and the big shot at the end to win it. Fisher on the other hand got to play Wentworth Tech, probably one of the worst teams in the tournament(they were 9-7 in their conf. 17-12 overall), and most of Fisher's starters were comfortably seated on the bench with lots of time left in the game. That plus the fact that Fisher enjoyed home court adv. was a bit much for the Cards of Pbugh St. to overcome.  Not trying to take anything away from Fisher they had a good team last year, but I think if we could have played them in our gym things might have been different. This is a new year and Plattsburgh has been taking care of business lately and hopefully will continue to do so. Big win for Fisher the other night against Stevens. Hope your Cards win the E8 tourney and we get to see you down the road. I'm rooting for Fisher as I don't want the newcomer to walk off with the honors their 1st year in the league.

B-port - You are absolutely right about getting into the Burg and not Brockport. Johnny Carter, Frazier and Arteberry were all turned down by Brockport---That's how they ended up at the Burg. Thanks for the correction!!!!!

Plattsburgh State moves up 4 spots to #17 in the D3 top 25 from #21. Surprised to see Virginia Wesleyan jump ahead of Pburgh. They beat 2 lowly conference teams while Plattsburgh won 2 games,  one of them over Cortland, who was undefeated in conference play. Also think Augustana is a little overated with 4 losses and a 2-2 conference record.

Tell me how NYU gets two votes in the Top 25 poll with a 10-4 record and loss to Geneseo! Someone please explain that logic--Thank you

Probably 2 coaches or SID's from the UAA conference voted for NYU.

On the topic of Refs. I have to assume you're trying to toy with us North Country boys. You can't really believe all that hogwash you've been spouting about refs and coaches riding to the game together and hometown offcials. You should listen to the Bear I've never known him to be wrong about anything he's posted. I do know a D3 ref who lives in Plattsburgh but he's never done a Plattsburgh State Game. I believe he's the only 1 in this area. I've attended all the Plattsburgh home games this year and most of them last year and we're usually getting crews out of the Albany area or Syracuse.
