Anybody know why?

I can't answer that question, but it definitely wouldn't have helped Amherst in the NPI rankings.  PSU Harrisburg is ranked #305 and would have at least dragged down Amherst's strength of schedule, if not worse if they had lost.  Amherst also might not have been able to drop the game because it is only at 7.5 adjusted NPI wins and might not get to 10.

Quote from: flyingdutchman on October 08, 2025, 03:10:29 PMWesleyan's recent results have been impressive, don't get me wrong; however, watching them play, I don't understand how they are getting the results they are. Talking about Wesleyan as a potential league winner seems absurd to me. They are proving they are hard to beat, but I don't think anyone in their offense is particularly threatening. I don't see them advancing past the first round of the NESCAC tournament, unless it's a 0-0 tie and they win it in penalties. Maybe they will continue to prove me wrong, but these results have to be a fluke

So ... four "flukes"?

Wesleyan got another impressive result this weekend. Yet, I'm still not convinced by them and will stand by my prediction that they don't make it past the quarter finals of the NESCAC tournament. If they win the NESCAC regular season, I truly believe it is the WORST team to win the regular season in the last 10 years. Results are results and you can argue it doesn't matter how the game is played if you win, but if you actually watch this Wesleyan team, they aren't very good. In my opinion, past teams that won the NESCAC just way looked more convincing and dominant. Who knows, maybe they will continue to prove me wrong but I'm convinced this run ends soon.

Broken clock is right twice a day ...

There are a lot of DIII men's soccer games that are not a good advertisement for DIII men's soccer, but why am I watching Coach Serpone getting into it with a Tufts player trying to throw the ball in from the sideline?

MISSING, I REPEAT MISSING: Mohammed Nuhu. Description: 5'7 167 pound forward on the Amherst Men's Soccer team. Last seen: in the pocket of every player on Bello Field.

WANTED: Justin Serpone. Last seen: harassing a young man on the Tufts Mens Soccer Team during a.. throw-in... Also last seen: doing everything other than coaching his team to at least a subpar performance

You just can't make this stuff up  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D  ;D

That is pretty much SOP for him, too bad he doesn't get carded more often. Arms up flailing, arguing, whinging to the officials: I can only imagine his players are embarrassed by it. He has plenty of talent on his team and they don't need his dramatic nonsense on the sidelines. But I guess it works for him.

amherst men's soccer shameful... simply a matter of time before lord jeff soccer alumni pressure administration to put an end to it....

I have struggled to watch too much of any game so far and whilst it's a disappointing result, I stand by my previous comment that I thought the team had overachieved.  It's a young roster that will be a story for 2026.  I'd encourage the Amhaters to enjoy the moment, for the rest of us, we'll always have Vegas.

The top teams in NESCAC all have young rosters, Williams, Tufts, Bates!

The irony is that the NCAA Points of emphasis for referees (posted in my NCAA Rule Changes thread this summer), specifically reminds referees that coaches should not do what Coach Serpone was doing in this game:

QuoteCoaches and substitutes should direct their remarks to their own team and not address opponents or officials. Coaches who leave the coaching area to argue with officials or engage in confrontations with the
opposing team or coaching staff are at risk of ejection under Rules 12.7.8.1 and 12.7.8.2.

I don't know if it was a big distraction for the player, but the fact that a member of the Tufts staff had to come between Serpone and the player and redirect things is a really bad look.  Most of the time the cameras aren't able to pick up these kinds of sideline interactions, but having this on tape is kind of damning.

Taking a look at rosters for each teams last "big games"

I would agree with Bates and Williams for sure - Williams with 6 underclassmen starting and 3 first years with 90.

looking at Tufts last night - only started one underclassman and the majority were seniors/grad students........and only 3 underclassmen off the bench with any decent playing time.....

Was this game on Flo and if so ~ what minute did this occur? I'd like to have a look.

FYI, in case you want to rewatch the Amherst at Tufts men's soccer game, it is currently free on demand on http://nsnsports.net/colleges/tufts  Click on the on-demand tab, and the game should be listed there.  (Amherst vs Tufts, 10/14/25, 7 PM).

Northeast Sports Network is still the primary carrier for streaming most NESCAC games.  Fortunately, Tufts does not charge for on-demand views of their home games, unlike other NESCAC schools.

Amherst is Tufts most anticipated game in recent years, they are going to put their absolute best 11 on the field at all times, some of the matchups are specific to that game only!
