GAC hosting CSS, CarlEton, and Westminster (Mo).

GAC vs. CSS, love the matchup, GAC has a great chance to redeem themselves from a loss in Duluth earlier this year.

CarlEton vs. Westminster (Mo.).  I know nothing of Westminster except they lost three consecutive games 4-0 this season.

Predictions:

GAC 2 CSS 0: Host team gets tougher draw.  Strange.  GAC gets revenge to setup a MIAC matchup in round 2.

CarlEton 3 Westminster 1: CarlEton can't exit it the tournament to another team slightly above .500 can they?

GAC 2 CarlEton 1: Same score as earlier in the season.

If both MIAC teams lose their first game I will retire from this message board.  Last year was miserable.

Great Pairing for the MIAC teams. Now they need to take care of business in the first round to setup the rematch...Regular Season Champs vs. MIAC Playoff Champs.

I believe Westminster is out of the SLIAC, which is traditionally a weak conference. But at this stage, you can't overlook any opponents.

Well GG if this go well for our teams it looks as if we could be meeting up possibly in Dbq!

That is what I am hoping...  No counting chickens before they're hatched in any game for any team in the NCAA tournament.  I like the GAC is hosting, the crappy thing for GAC is they aren't playing their best right now.  Hopefully the loss to SJU will give them a kick in the pants for the remainder of the season (whether it is one game or six).

Definitely anyone's game come tourney time. GAC will need to bring it to redeem themselves vs CSS. And having to potentially face CarlEton a 2nd time, will not be an easy task either.

At 11-8-1 and results like a 4-0 loses to Wash U and Simpson. I have to think CarlEton is the heavy favorite in this match up.

I'm hoping the lose to SJU last week was just the wake up call the Gusties needed to turn things up a notch for the NCAA's.

If GAC can get through this coming weekend, i'm definitely planning a little road trip for the Sweet 16...

While CSS appears to be a team that can hang with/occasionally beat top teams in the region, it's overall a pretty soft draw for the MIAC's pair. But other than UWS, CSS hasn't played a decent side since early September.

Should very well be a trip to the third round for one MIAC team.

Much easier route than the potential 2nd round matchups of No. 7 York vs. No. 4 Stevens or No. 1 Messiah vs. No. 9 Salisbury.

Times finally released for the GAC regional this weekend:

Carleton-Westminster (MO): 10 am
GAC-St. Scholastica: 12:30 pm

GG, you think given the fact that GAC is hosting means that they are higher ranked than CArleton? Seems like the draw and who is hosting send some mixed signals. Or maybe it has something to do with GAC winning the head to head. Puzzling...

Should be a relatively straightforward first match for the Knights. But after last year I'm pretty hopeful complacency doesn't creep in. Did not see them playing a team from Mizzou in the first round, but a lack of central teams probably left the committee with no other choice. That's gotta be a long bus ride to St. Peter for the Blue Jays. I'll say 3-1 Knights.

GAC/CSS should be a dogfight. GAC will have had a week and a half to steam over that SJU loss, and now hosting a regional AND playing a team they have already lost to (albeit 1-0), you gotta imagine they'll be flying out of the gate in this one. CSS haven't played anyone decent outside of UW-Superior in the last 6-8 weeks. You wonder what an early goal (or the first goal for that matter) would do on GAC's confidence. CSS can be dangerous offensively, but I think GAC pulls it out. 2-1 Gusties.

If all goes to plan...

Carleton 2 GAC 1. Knights conjure some Voorhees 30-yard laser magic and beat the Gusties again in St. Peter. Carleton are miles better than they were when the two teams played in Sept, but still should be a cracking game. It'll be a shame if these teams can't meet at this stage like last year.

I think the Mizzou team is going to get off the bus and make a little boom boom in their kits as soon as that arctic blast slaps them in their cheeks! Forecast is for 46 degrees saturday, but that will be more like 35 to 40 if there is even a sniff of wind.

I am confused as to why GAC is hosting and has the tougher match.  I don't think the NCAA did a very good job for the mens or womens brackets.  I am bored by the conferences and regional opponents playing eachother in the first couple of rounds.  Maybe the NCAA should go back to 4 Pool C bids and let teams travel early on instead of letting 6 loss teams squeak into the tournament and play their next door neighbor.

There's some validity to that point.  If the NCAA is so worried about saving money when it comes to DIII (because they seem to be more than happy to piss millions away at the DI level), then don't allow so many teams in that will be playing against their own conference in the first 2 rounds of the NCAA tourney.  I don't have a problem with in region matchups i.e. Loras v GAC possibilities, but I do think the fact that Loras could also possibly be playing their first match against an in conference team (Luther) and then have the chance of playing Wartburg in the Elite 8?  I know these are all "if's", but come on both in conference teams in the same bracket really?  Spread these guys out and give them a reward for making the tourney, let them play outside their conference and if possible their region.

Here is another side topic: If the NCAA is so penny conscience now about DIII what are they going to do when DI football and basketball players sue and more than likely win for the right to be paid?  The NCAA has profited handsomely off these players likenesses and person intellectual property in regards to video games, jerseys, posters, and bobble head for years and years.  I know the players get "paid" with a free education, but many with full rides still have trouble paying bills and making ends meet all the while the NCAA is raking in tens if not hundreds of millions of dollar from these players names.

Watched the D3JC quarterfinals yesterday and saw Century was there. Despite growing up in Minny, I'd never heard of them so I checked them out and saw they played the GAC reserves. (Pretty horrible side with a number of Aussies ... they could have lost by twice the 4-0 score.)

Got me wondering about the MIAC. Who do teams play in preseason and spring to stretch themselves with no d2/d1 competition in the region?  Seems to be pretty common for teams here to schedule up  for at least some of their exhibitions.

GarbageGoals33

Pre-season games really vary from team-to-team.

GAC played against St. Thomas as well as USF (University of Sioux Falls NAIA) this past season.  I know that a lot of teams (St. Olaf, Hamline, etc.) play one of their games against MASL Division 1 (Minnesota Amateur Soccer League) opposition.  The MASL usually consists of former D3, D2, D1, and professional players so it is a pretty good level of play.  I believe Augsburg played against the Minnesota United reserves (pro-team NASL) this past season.
