Indeed Ira R. Herr Field at Etown is being replaced by turf. In the 90s, I can assure you it was one of the best surfaces in the country. Sad to see the demise of high-quality grass fields.

Wow did not know! Explains why the F&M Boot game is two years in a row in Lancaster. Probably means that they'll play it twice in row in Etown starting next year. Also why the Etown schedule has them on Etown HS turf several times. https://news.etown.edu/index.php/2025/11/12/elizabethtown-college-announces-summer-2026-renovations-for-ira-r-herr-field/

I was gonna say, I'm pretty sure we played them in, like 90 or 91 and it felt like walking on the fairway at a nice golf course. I might be conflating it with Rowan (glasboro st.)... I'll go look.

Hopkins92

Yep, 1991... Lost 3-0. We weren't ready for that.

Ejay

It was my favorite field to play on in the early 90s. No question.

Ejay

The Boot is back in Etown. For the second time in three years, Etown draws with F&M, but wins the Boot on PKs.

IMO, the best the Centennial Conf is going to do concerning tournament qual is maybe 2 teams this year. Most Cent Conf teams played mediocre out of conf. teams this year. It may be down to AQ only unless the best team in CC is upset in the final. Obv. still a lot of games to played.

You may be right, but I wouldn't extrapolate from the USC rankings for that prediction.  The NPI ranking of your team and the teams you play is the key.  For example, according to the NPI simulator linked in that thread, Franklin & Marshall is the highest NPI Centennial Conference team right now.

Haverford is currently 5-0-1 right now. Last season they went 10-0-10 so over 26 games 15-0-11. All together they have only giving up 10 goals. That is a .38 goals against avg. They tied the only Cent. Conf. playoff game and lost in pks (first time in CC tournament since 2019).

Obv. they did not play anyone decent except Cent. Conf. teams (3-0-6 in conf. play and 0-0 against F&M) and the Fords still haven't this season. First CC game this weekend against Gberg. So they may be team to watch.

paclassic89

Albright 1-0 over F&M at Tylus.  Oof, can't blame the field for that one

Hopkins92

Is the Fords the weakest college mascot in the land? Who can say. I'm just glad some old codger back in the day didn't decide to start calling my alma mater's sports teams The Kins.

Anyways, the Fords and the Kins are meeting up for what, on paper, is a battle for a playoff seed on Saturday. I know it's very early, but both teams appear to be rounding into form: Haverford is 7-0-1 against a fairly mediocre schedule, while Hopkins is 5-2-1 against slightly stiffer competition. (I'm just going with the NPI SoS for that.)

I agree with Sierra's post at the beginning of the season: CC appears to be having an off year and I would be surprised if they got more than 1 bid this year. Too many teams either played a really soft OOC schedule or lost to decent/good OOC teams. Predictions of Dickinson running away with things seemed to ignore the loss of some really important players (they are 4-4, and while losing to Messiah is understandable, some of the other losses are head scratchers, again, at least on paper.)

Albright had a very nice goal. F&M had some opportunities, but scoring 5 goals over 7 games is not going to get it done. FYI, as to fields, Ford's appears to be way better than many years before. Lot's to work on.

As to Dickinson, its really tough to maintain success.

F&M at 3-3-1, which is better by a bit from last year 1-5-1, is pretty much facing a must win against Swat. being 0-1 in conf play this Saturday. It'll be the Battle of Wagners. Dan Wagner has not lost to the other Wagner since 2013. Several ties along the way since 2013. Only one time that F&M won by more than one goal. So, like the other games, it should be good one.

soccerfan111

What's going on with F&M? Haven't caught a game this year yet, but they had a string of 10-12 years of NCAA and fighting to be in the Top 10 nationally. Tough year last year but seems like it's continuing into this year.
