Rochester wasn't the only team competing in the tournament, and several games didn't include them at all.

Hope this helpes

And Rochester is the only UAA (and thus Flo connected) school that competes in softball in the LL. NYU is an affiliate member of the LL, but competes in the UAA in softball.

The SAA finally announced they are jumping on the Flo cash grab.  https://x.com/SAA_Sports/status/2054230586315653582

Quote from: IC798891 on May 08, 2026, 12:59:31 PMI know Rochester is split between two conferences, (and typically charges anyway), but it's ridiculous to me that the Liberty League softball championship is behind FloSports' paywall when the Liberty League is not part of Flo

Has anyone inquired if Rochester is sharing revenue from the championship with LL or the other paarticipating teams?

There isn't any revenue specifically tied to any specific event. It's year-long.

It was a poorly-kept secret that the SAA would go this direction, however attached to what I had heard was that Trinity would be an opt-out, as they were when the SCAC deal was announced prior to their departure. Perhaps the silence out of San Antonio speaks for itself, but the announcements out there don't indicate any schools will operate outside this agreement.

QuoteThrough this agreement, FloSports will serve as the global home for live and on-demand SAA competitions across its member institutions.

QuoteThe SAA's core membership includes Berry College, Centre College, Maryville College, Millsaps College, Oglethorpe University, Rhodes College, The University of the South (Sewanee), Southwestern University, and Trinity University.

Listing Trinity as a core member of the conference is factually correct regardless of whether or not they are part of this deal and it wouldn't be a surprise for those putting together this "exciting" announcement to not watn to mention that a school has opted out. Will be interesting to see if Trinity addresses this directly soon.

In a similar vein, I'm actually curious how this works for something like a regional or state tournament like we see in wrestling or baseball.

If Oswego Stare is the host institution for a 20-team wrestling New York State wrestling tournament and the SUNYAC uses Flo, does that mean it's behind the paywall for everyone? Because this LL softball tournament seems to indicate that it's the host institution's affiliation with Flo, and not the specific tournament's affiliation that matters.

Not only are both Trinity and Southwestern silent (each of which opted out of the SCAC FloSports deal), but so is Oglethorpe as far as I can tell.

Oglethorpe's president is quoted in the announcement.

Southwestern Athletics (@SUPirates) RT'd the Xitter announcement.

No promises of feature-style coverage or maybe I missed it.

Flo College did publish a greatest sports dynasties story last week, so they are doing things.  Limited things.

It seems strange that Johns Hopkins lacrosse and St. Thomas football made the list by the way, especially with the obvious recency bias.

You have to favor the recent dynasties to pick NYU Women's Basketball over the other more storied UAA program.

And Calvin volleyball?

Apologies to the writer for what I'm about to say, but it's clear that little actual research was put into the list, and they just picked whatever they came across first

Kenyon men's swimming and diving won 31 straight titles. Women's swimming won 17 straight. That's the ultimate standard in any Division, for any sport. Neither even got honorable mention. Neither did Augsburg wrestling and their 15 titles

But, St. Thomas football, which never even won a Stagg Bowl sure did!

But hey, they're giving schools $30,000 a year. They can't do that AND pay for quality journalism

WUPHF

I was aware of Kenyon, but had no idea Augsburg had such a streak in wrestling.

Also, no shade to Calvin volleyball, they have been a clear third after the dynasties that are Washington University and Juniata volleyball.  The Bears have 10 national championships and are clearly worthy of inclusion on any list.

North Central is a veritable Walnut & Bronze factory in the running sports. The Cardinals have won 19 men's cross-country titles, 6 men's indoor t&f titles, 6 men's outdoor t&f titles, and 7 women's triathlon titles, all under the tutelage of the late Al Carius and the coaches he trained and then hired. And that's not counting all of NCC's individual titles that are awarded in the running sports.

North Central didn't get mentioned, either.
