In light of this, how shocking would it be if the league doesn't adopt an instant replay system next season?

I think it was tabled for this year -- presumably they get it together.

I say this cynically because how can you not, but would replay have even made a difference to the referee when they are making a subjective ruling on a rule they don't seem to grasp very well.  ie "football move"

As an Ohio State fan I still hate Refs and their grasp of "Football Move" with the fumble that was overturned vs Clemson in the semifinals a couple years ago.  (but at least I did not have to experience playing against Burrow's LSU in the Natty!).

Judgement calls are always painful on replay.   My POV Hope 100% got screwed and I probably would have been thrown out of the game if I was playing just based on what I would have said!  But 24hr rule has to kick in for the players and move on because the league is still wide open and cant let it hangover to another week.

Former Trine assistant, Olivet and Cornell College head coach Dan Pifer was hired to be the head coach at Eaton Rapids High School.

Mid-season resignation (drama) led to this glorious opportunity for Dan.  The mighty Greyhounds are 1-6 with just two games remaining on the season against JW Sexton and Milan.  The one win this year snapped a 17 game losing streak which was only 4 shy of the school record.  They're coming off back-to-back losses against their conferences two best teams giving up 110 points combined for their efforts.

Dan left Olivet in 2016 and the Greyhounds have racked up 8 total wins since.

May he return the Greyhounds to the days when passing out plastic footballs at halftime meant something to young Greyhounds in the stands. I still have one of mine.

ER is only 11 years removed from back-to-back state tournament appearances, it can be done.  Good Luck!

Hey, Im a current college student and former d3 football player (I quit the team my sophomore year to focus on other things). Whenever I was at my schools football games I'd wonder how we match up vs the team we are playing. I made a website called d3lines.com that gives every d3 team a spread vs their opponents. You obviously cant bet on it and it's just for entertainment purposes but I thought I'd share incase anyone else found it interesting. Lines are a good general ballpark but not the sharpest things in the world

I would've taken JCU +5.5 too!

The Adrian v Hope game was almost everything I couldve hoped for in watching what I believe to be Adrian Colleges first ever Top 25 matchup in a game as far back as I can remember. Both teams showed up to play and were clearly gunning for the win. In the end Hope made the plays they needed to and go the win. Im sure looking back on it there are going to be some things the Adrian coaching staff second guesses (4th down conversion play call, time out usage at end of game), but thats always how hindsight works. Leaving points on the field with the 4th down conversion attempt in the 3rd quarter ended up being far more impactful than one would think, as was the safety Adrian gave up in the 3rd quarter after picking Hope off at the Adrian one. Hope was really able to grind the clock on Adrian, dominating the 3rd quarter and running an excellent 4 minute drill at the end of the game. Their offensive line pretty much negated any Adrian pass rush and was able to get their QB clean around the edges to work the flats and extend plays for much of the game. Adrian certainly proved they belong, and weren't just a by product of their schedule. There's a lot to build on there, and a lot of season left still with a potential 9-1 finish still in play (coming down to the final game vs Alma) which I would hope would secure them a playoff berth.

TLDR: Great game, both teams slugged it out and Adrian ended up on the short end but certainly showed that they have made tremendous growth from even last year, let alone from the disastrous 2024 season. If that game gets played 10 times I dont know that any game isnt a coin flip matchup.

I still look back to a call in the first quarter though, where the gumby looking side judge waved off an Adrian TD. Standing right in the endzone I dont know how he waved it off as from my vantage the ball was secured and the WR got his foot down in the endzone before anything else came down and secured the ball through the ground. Truly vexing to watch, and even more so when theres no replay available. Big swing to go from a TD to a FG and a 14-0 lead to 10-0.

Sounds like perhaps Adrian needs to join Hope in pushing for replay review in the MIAA for next season.

Hypothetical question (and I'm not overlooking any of the upcoming games):

Should Hope and Adrian win out (meaning an Alma loss in the final game of the MIAA) we would have a 3 way tie for first at 6-1.  So what is the tie-breaker to determine the automatic qualifier in that kind of scenario?  I would assume that with the same MIAA record, and the losses coming from each other, you have to then go to non-league record (which would eliminate Alma) but Adrian and Hope are still tied.  At that point does Hope get it for beating Adrian head-to-head? Do we at some point go to higher NPI?  Do we anticipate 2 playoff bound teams if we have have two 9-1 teams?

I don't know that there's any assuming with three-way tiebreakers in football. There are lots of different ways conferences try to deal with these and none of them are particularly great.

I looked on the conference site for tiebreakers the other day and came up empty. I have not yet contacted the conference office.

From my past experience coaching, I believe if all 3 teams are tied with 1 conf loss and theres no h2h to break that, the playoff spot went to the team who had not been in the longest time, for the AQ. I would assume, big assumption, that overall record would be used first, then moving to conf in which case the playoff spot would go to Hope by virtue of h2h win over Adrian with same record. As far as how they treat the conference championship however, I think its just a split title with both teams being in first. The tie breaker logic only applies to the playoff AQ, again thats if I remember right from 10 or so years ago.

This is not specific to a three-way tie but it came to my mind a couple weeks ago how smart it would be for a conference to use NPI in their tiebreakers for an AQ to maximize the league's entrants into the playoff.

For example, if teams find themselves in a tie but sitting on opposite sides of the cutline, give the AQ to the team that would get left out and let the team above get in as an at-large. Why limit yourself to having one team in the playoff when you could use your tiebreaker rules to manufacture getting two in?
