Coach Fred said he has tried to schedule UWW a time or two for regular season and Leipold wouldn't do it.

Maybe Oshkosh is a better choice. They have even more trouble scheduling than UWW does.

Why is that?

My guess is distance, mostly.  Oshkosh is another 100 miles north and out of the way to basically anybody that would be traveling up to Wisconsin for a game as compared to Whitewater.  If you're going to bite the bullet and sign up for an L up in cheeseland, there's really no need to take an extra three hours on a bus to do it.

2010, I think. (Let me check with a friend of mine.)

War Hawks, two words is unique among college mascots.
I guess I wasn't paying attention during McMurry's DII years.

As two words (War Hawks), it is unique, but UWW and ULM (University of Louisiana at Monroe) are one word Warhawks, I think.

I've noticed that nearly every school with some form of Indian name has changed to some form of Hawk.

It was the winner over the three choices that we put to the students and alumni.  Circuit Riders, to reflect the Methodist heritage, and one other were considered. The statue of the brave and the Harris Hawk, called Spirit Wind, has been on campus for 30 years.

I did a little research also ... I think the other choice was Bison.  I have to say, though, Circuit Riders would have been unique for sure!

Yes, Bison.  Thanks for looking that up.

I would have loved for the band to play a few measures of "Riders on the Storm" after each first down...    ;D

Apologies Ralph.
Here I met your President at a Chapman baseball game several years ago and I asked if he knew you. He did.

I should have asked him where McMurry was located.   :-[

The moment I saw Pat's question to me I realized I missed a chance to check out another DIII campus.  :-[

Well, uh, I did like the 80 mph speed limit.

ASC now ranked 5th....
5. American Southwest Conference
Kickoff ranking: 8

Mary Hardin-Baylor made the statement win of the non-conference season, dominating the second half en route to a 39-point win over Linfield. East Texas Baptist and Hardin-Simmons are also undefeated and ranked in the Top 25. Too many non-D-III opponents keep this conference from being ranked higher

Some good video and pictures of Belhavens new field. Looks pretty sharp and with free tickets all year and potentially 3 Top 25 teams still coming to town the locals have no reason not to come out and see a game.

BlazeofGlory

I was coming to post the news report.

It is awesome. Wish they would have had time to get the suites and press box done, but the unexpected summer rains caused a big delay and they decided to focus on getting it ready to host the last four home games of the season and will finish the suites and press box in the off season. Video board is up - they are saying fifth largest in D3.
