The Lutes are going to be in thier house with a chip on thier shoulder...I think they'd like
nothing better than catch the Oaks looking forward.

Lutes are always very tough at home. I wouldn't bet against them vs Menlo.

They are in (as in this is their 2nd season playing football) but I think you were probably asking about George Fox who I think will start in 2013.

However, I suspect MHB will bring it and remind SOU why they left D3 :)

The SOU Raiders were never in D3, they've been NAIA for decades.  EOU was a D3 independent (for football only) for a few years in the late 90's and early 00's.

Yeah, George Fox is what I meant.  Duh!!!!

Oh they're starting in 2013 all right.  Hopefully (dramatic pause) we'll all be ready.

"A storm is Bruin?" - is that a play on GFU's team name or just a really bad use of a homonym?

I've been known to poke fun at GFU's academics on occasion, but they're not that bad.  GFU's teams are named the "Bruins."

From the GFU website:

Return of a tradition: Football kicks off in 2013

Some excerpts from the write-up:

"George Fox's home conference opener is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, against Willamette. The team will play preseason games prior to that, with dates and opponents to be announced at a later date."

"George Fox (then Pacific College) played its first intercollegiate football game on Nov. 17, 1894, against Willamette University. The first home game occurred on Dec. 1, 1894, after the Willamette team arrived in Newberg by steamboat."

The Bearcats should once again be able to welcome the Bruins appropriately to NWC football.   :)

Does it seem like GFU is making a major push to establish its chops as a force in DIII athletics in the Pac NW?

"George Fox has begun construction of the Austin Sports Complex, a multi-use facility to be shared by the university, the Chehalem Park and Recreation District, Newberg High School, local club teams and the community. The complex is located a half-mile north of the Newberg campus on 24 acres of land donated by Ken and Joan Austin, owners and founders of the A-dec dental equipment company.

The $6.5 million complex will include Stoffer Family Stadium, featuring a multi-use synthetic turf field that can be used for football, soccer or lacrosse. The stadium, which received a $1.2 million lead gift from Brad and Katharine Stoffer and their Boedecker Foundation, is part of the first phase in developing the complex.

Crews broke ground on the complex in the spring of 2010 and a completion date is contingent upon fundraising efforts."

So, George Fox was Pacific College, anyone know the history of how the name changed and another Pacific cropped up nearby?

The other (current) Pacific was there first, and is the second-oldest college in the state, after Willamette.  Fox has been through multiple name changes over the years: it was Pacific College at first, then Newberg College (when Herbert Hoover attended), then finally George Fox.

Preseason games? Is this allowed by the ncaa?

From the small world department. I began a conversation with a shopper wearing an Oregon Duck shirt the other day. Turns out she is an alum of George Fox University.  8-)

Will Linfield increase their record breaking run of consecutive winning seasons this Saturday as they take on the Boxers of Pacific College? Can the Wildcats keep "The Streak" alive? Tune in this Saturday to find out. ;)
Go Cats! Make it 62 in '17!
