went to the LC/Oxy game last night, rough one for the pios.  i only counted 28 players in pads and not the 35 put out by the administration.

i was really surprised with the amount of people at the game, i thought alot of people would have left them for dead.

also, from what i have heard regarding this L&C "commission" to save football is there are no L&C staff or alumni on it.  i would think/hope that some people close to the program would be able to give their input on what is wrong with the program.  my take on is a few people close to the program want to keep their jobs so the less name recognition, the better.

I suspect there may have been some attrition after the school's announcement.

CC & LB...Just read the story on Cats & SP.  Got to admit you guys were right I had it half right.  I did have the Cats with 45.  Sounds like your D played a great game and should be commended.  The Johnnie D is also getting high reviews.  So mayby this will be the year defenses get their deserved recognition.

GHC, WC11, TuxGuy, DensLA, BeanCounter, and all the others - Glad to see you all again yesterday.  Not only have the Cats picked up where they left off last year, but the TG action hasn't missed a beat.  Great bunch of guys to visit with.  The Longies were great again GHC but where was MOJO?  I was nice and warm by the time the game rolled around.  Nice to meet you CamCat.  I am sure I have an extra ticket for the PLU game CamCat so I will see you at the TG about 11:00.  We sit right next to a great ex player and Mom.  Tom Seybouts who was the exciting and enjoyable kicker for the cats and his mom from the Vancouver area.  Great people CamCat so I am sure you will be glad to be up there in the nosebleed section with us.

By the way, Due to Popular Demand, TOPCAT1 ;D is back and PEZCAT is dead .

The Pirates played well for 3-1/2 quarters on Saturday.  La Verne managed to put up two touchdowns and 150 yards against the Bucs' bench in the final eight or nine minutes.

Is it too early to call this week's games must wins for Willamette and PLU?  I think its true for Willamette.  With L&C no longer on the schedule, WU needs to beat Menlo or the Bearcats are looking at a potential 0-fer this season!  They seem to be the team that goes up and down the most over the last seven or eight years.  The year after they lost to PLU in the NCAA playoffs, they went 0-5 in the NWC.

PLU had a week off after the loss to CLU, so you'd think they should be extra ready for River Falls. But if they lose that one, with Linfield waiting the next week, it could turn into a long-looking season for the Lutes as well.

Which NWC schools are replacing the L & C game?  ???

Tuxguy

WOUfan..... Can't speak for the other NWC teams, but it looks like the CATS are picking up a game against the 2nd best team in the country.....The Wildcat Alumni!!! In 1984 the Cats went 12-0 with 1 loss against the Alumni  27-21..........................It was great to see everyone at the TG, and nice to meet new faces. We just got a taste of whats to come this yr. and already have a week off. Works for me, I'll be at the USC vs. UO this weekend. If I can't watch the #1 Cats, I'll watch the #1 Trojans. Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!
I love D3 Football!!!

Western just picked up Puget Sound for a Nov. 12th game ... nice. More football, the happier I am. Here's the release:

Wolves, Loggers Add Football Game
Western Oregon to Host Puget Sound on Nov. 12

MONMOUTH, Ore.— In a rare mid-season move that will help Puget Sound, Western Oregon and college football in the Pacific Northwest, the two universities have announced that they will play each other on November 12 at McArthur Field in Monmouth.  Kick-off will be at 1 p.m.

The game is a non-conference contest.  Western Oregon is a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (NCAA Div. II) and Puget Sound plays in the Northwest Conference (D-III).

Puget Sound originally had a contest with Lewis & Clark College scheduled for Nov. 12.  But when the Pioneers dropped the Northwest Conference portion of its 2005 schedule, that left the Loggers with only eight games on their slate.

"This is an opportunity for us to promote college football in the Pacific Northwest," said WOU athletic director Jon Carey.  "Puget Sound needs a ball game, and we want to play.  It works out very well for both of us."

The addition gives Western Oregon 11 games on its schedule, which is pleasing news to head football coach Arne Ferguson.  "We would love to always play an 11-game schedule," the first-year leader said.  "It provides another week for us to get better and a chance for our seniors to end their careers at home.  It is very good for our program."

In the event that WOU qualifies for the playoffs, the game will be cancelled.

"We very much appreciate Western Oregon's willingness to work within their schedule to add an additional contest to the 2005 season," said UPS head coach Philip Willenbrock.  "Our young men work awfully hard for a limited number of competitions, and I am pleased for them that our administration worked diligently to find an additional game to make our schedule complete."

The Wolves and Loggers last met in 1999, with WOU winning in Tacoma, 44-12.  WOU holds an all-time lead in the series, 4-2-1.

Beat me to it WOUfan.

It should be interesting to see the two teams play at the end of the season. It's a lot better than having to play Linfield twice in a year, which had been discussed. It's not like the NWC is the Frontier Conference or the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

hey,
are they really going to set up an alumni game? if they are i hope someone lets me know.

Congratulations to UPS and WOU!  Thanks to WOU for helping here! :)

Tuxguy-
Ditto on the USC game. Any time you can use a bye week to catch the #1 team in DI, I suppose you should take advantage.
At least it will pass the time until PLU week.

Cat defense looks fast this season!!!

A few thoughts from this weekend's games.

1. Linfield's defense is right up there with their offense. The team is scary good.

2. Whitworth's offense is still rolling. We'll see where the defense is in the next few weeks. But it looks to be improved from last year.

3. UPS can still run the ball. Lee may get 1000 yards in the nonconference schedule. TB Silas Paul gives the Loggers another weapon on offense. The kid is legit. The defense finally got their entire starting lineup back and could take a week or two before they get back to their 2004 form.

4. It's been a tough opening stretch for Willamette. The young defense is being forced to grow up quick and the offense is missing the dynamic running game that they have possessed in the past. At least they get Menlo in a down year this weekend. Could be an interesting game.

5. Don't really have much to say about the Pios. At least they scored a few points.
