First impression of the weekend....good week for the NWC.

The score nobody is really talking about is the PLU score.  Is PLU back?  That made me take notice....River Falls is decent this year and they gave SJU quite the game.  The Lutes piled up the offense numbers in impressive fashion.
Making it even more impressive to me is the fact that the Lutes have two wins on the road and both are long road trips, to So Cal and Wisconsin. On the pick 'em board, most people picked River Falls to win. Congrats to PLU.

Anyone know what's become of the CatCam at Maxwell Field?

QuoteI like how we are trying to establish the running game until Kemp can get comfortable behind the reigns...

284 rushing yards...you are right, the Pirates did try and establish the run and appearently succeeded.  Speaking of the QB, Jon Luke went 3-4 (the stats said 3-3 but he had a 30-40 yard pass to silva that the ref called out) with 86 yards and a TD.  When I talked about the QB's a few posts ago I thought Jon Luke would be the starter and he played very well against the La Verne starters at the end of the 3rd quarter/start of the 4th.  Look for him to get more and more PT if he keeps playing like this.

Not sure what to say other than, yeah, pretty impressive win. Most of the Lute playmakers are seniors with a ton of previous playing time, and they've seriously cut down on turnovers. The PLU-Whitworth game is shaping up to be pretty interesting. The Lutes have some challenges before that though including Chapman this week, which is a tough team to gauge.

Cats...having played for Whitworth when we could light up the score board, but couldn't stop the Northwest School for the Blind on defense, be careful, it could catch up to you in the long run against some other good teams on the road.  (i.e. like when we played you).  Though the team you did beat this last weekend was definately no slouch.
It also does appear that PLU might be back on track which is great for the league.  Wondering how the pre-season all-american d-end is doing for them so far through 2 games, imagine he is seeing a few double teams this year.
Whoever the QB ends up being at Whitworth, as long as they don't turn the ball over I think they will be in every game this season with that defense.

The Cat defense will only improve as the season goes on...

Well, let's hope so!  :)  But seriously, it seems that each year the D is a little slow to warm up.  I think if they can figure out a way to put a little pressure on the QB then we'll be in business.  Offensively, man those turnovers have to stop.  It is crazy to think we put up 52 points and gave up the ball  3 times!
Go Cats!

RedandPurple,

Catcam is not working( as you can see, or not see) and from what I hear is not on the high priority list of things to get done soon. Just another one of those Items that takes $ away from something else.
Only at a D3 football game could you have 2 seats on the 50 yard line (2 rows behind bluenote) and have an obstructed view!

Tux,

Any idea how many $$ it might take to get the Maxwell web cam fixed?  There might be an alumnus out there that would spring for the bucks just so that they could sit at their computer and watch the action at the Catdome (albeit a bit delayed).

Did everyone enjoy your gourmet offerings yesterday at the Tailgater?  Did you fill up on Olinemom's brownies rather than focusing on the cool ones?  ::)

Thanks Tux. How did the band sound yesterday? We did hear the train whistle as it went by, but could not here the band over the internet.

Pirate Pride is right on the mark.

Linfield's passing attack and superb kicking are great.      But, (1)  there is no salt in the Passing D, (2) weak rushing O,  and (3) far too many turnovers.

Turnovers have been the Achilles heal of LC for the last 5 years.    Without key LC turnovers, leading to opponents winning margin, we would have beaten St. John's in Minnesota in 2003,  UW Whitewater two years ago and Whitworth last year.

In two games this years, it has NOT improved.   LC had 5 fumbles yesterday, losing 3 of them.  Against WOU, we gave them 9 early points on our "gifts".

Hopefully, those 3 glaring weaknesses will be solved.    If so, look out for Linfield.
If not, we won't go far in the playoffs, if we even win the NWC race.

GO CATS GO!

GO CATS! GO!

D O.C.

(Good thing 11 is out to dinner. I'll get in here as a buffer.)

Were you at the HSU game, George?  We missed you. The defense showed no salt, or spark. I did not see or hear anyone who might provide that spark, true.
The 'CATS cannot beat the odds and win every time if they continue to lose the ball. St. John's and Whitworth, agreed. The Whitewater game...the gentleman who made his own break and stole the Elliott tipped pass for a TD is not a statistic I count against any one.

(THE White Ablum, kiddies)
Drew Ragen showed some power and sense at running back. Play him.
You forgot to mention that before the HSU game LINFIELD was 6-5 since the Whitewater game, George. Were you saving that or are you slipping?   :D

WC64,

I'll check into it.

The train was great yesterday, kinda gives that small College feel to the over all game experience. The band was good, ( not up to the par with the days of the late 70's) but maybe I'm bias. Good numbers in the band as well! I'll let bluenote elaborate more on the band.

D.O.C.....How about the kid from Canby, Lever? He got us some hard yards late for 1st downs to seal the game. I think the running game is coming around, just need to hang on to the Flip-pen ball. The team looed a whole lot better from week one, and with a bye week, things are going to just get better.
