Quote from: PauldingLightUP on May 12, 2025, 01:06:19 PMMy first thought on the bracket. Did Whitewater not bid to host for some reason?
Same thing crossed my mind... Figured it was a sure thing that Whitewater would be hosting next weekend.

And all the teams in the pod are within the 500 miles of Whitewater, so it's very confusing.
Just wondering, is this the year that women get preferential treatment in hosting the 1st weekend?
UWW softball?
Whitewatee Softball is on the road as well... They are traveling to Ohio.

Baseball and softball teams from the same school can host both this weekend. As you'll see there are multiple schools hosting both.

Here's what I got from the committee:

"There were facility restrictions and the committee moved the site to Adrian."

In talking with other Whitewater people, wondering if the fact that commencement is this weekend was the issue -- restrictions could include stuff on campus, or perhaps hotel availability, etc.

Thanks Pat!

The cynic in me wonders how they've managed to work around graduation in years past, but not this year?

Great question -- could be that staffing at the university has changed, or that the university's requirements around graduation have changed. In addition, for most of the previous years, hosting of the first weekend in Division III baseball has been a pre-determined thing, and planned around.

Interesting because they've hosted regionals on this weekend three times since format change in 2019, 2022, and 2024.

I will have to talk to our administration about our sub-par facilities.    :)

Re: WW snubbed on hosting/ The Janesville Gazette quotes coach Vodenlich as saying he had heard some rumblings that the NCAA was not pleased that WW does not allow pitchers to wear metal spikes on their turfed mound, but he did not seem certain that that was the issue.

They'll have to deal with it when they host the super regionals though. I don't think the NCAA can get away with snubbing them again.

And if this is the issue, just be pragmatic about it and talk to Vodenlich/Callahan and let them know.

Speaking of softball, WIAC goes 3-1 today, with UWO, Whitewater and Stevens Point each posting shutouts. Eau Claire took one on the chin 13-3.

Intersting approach for the University of Chicago this morning against UWO...  They give the start to one their primary relievers (who had started just two games on the season) and he gets run off the mound before the first inning is even finished.  A pair of singles, three doubles and a Kirchberg HR chases the starter as UWO takes an early 6-1 lead with two outs in the 1st inning.

The reliever doesn't fare much better as he goes single, single, walk, Grand Slam and UWO takes a 10-1 lead into the second inning.

Chicago answers with four runs of their own in the second inning to get right back into things, making it 10-5...

And before the second inning is even over, Chicago has now used two of their Top 3 starters (in addition to their top reliever) in the first game of Regionals....

UWO 30
Chicago 5

All nine UWO starters score multiple runs, while seven out of their nine starters have multiple hits on their way to separate 10, 11, and 8 run innings.  All ten Titan's to bat had at least one hit and one run scored.

This isn't going to help those that think the UAA had too many teams (4) qualify for Regionals based off of the new NPI data.

EDIT-Totally forgot that there isn't a mercy rule in Regional Play....  So of course it's now 34-5 now as UWO's Surane hit for the cycle with getting an at-bat in the 7th inning.
