Macon

82, thanks for your analysis.   Saturday will be tough, as Jackets usually struggle at Guilford.

rmc1982

Looking forward to next weeks tournament neither R-MC or Guilford will change whatever happens tomorrow which means the Jackets will play the winner of the 8-9 seed play in game Monday( currently Bridgewater/EMU) and the Quakers will play the winner of the 7-10 game ( currently H-SC- Randolph play in game) Seeds could change depending on what happens in tomorrows games but thats what it looks like now. Should be an interesting tournament.....Depending on who wins the tournament, its gonna be interesting to see if we get any other at large bids. I guess it will depend on whether R-MC wins it all and who goes deep. I think as a conference we deserve more but I'm not the one selecting.....lol.....I certainly think Guilford deserves a bid depending on how deep they go but its always a crapshoot......

Week 2 Regional Rankings - which are ranked now: https://d3hoops.com/notables/2022/02/men-regional-rankings-first
Hampden-Sydney ranked 8th, what?

I'm pretty sure that is for games through 2/13, which was before the Tigers loss to Bridgewater on 2/14. They will most certainly drop out next week, but replaced by who, I wonder.

With regard to regional rankings, GC should probably leapfrog Roanoke since the Quakers currently have 5
losses vs 8 for the Maroons ... not to mention 2 head to head victories.  I know that's not all there is to it, but just a thought.  Quakers didn't gel early and have a tough loss to Methodist and NC Wesleyan.

I think Guilford could beat RMC tomorrow, but they're going to finish 1-2 regardless of the outcome.  You know, in a 12-team league you still get capable teams in the 7-8 seeds ... not an easy road at all.

Hasa- Its not only possible.....its DAMNED LIKELY! We haven't won in Ragen-Brown since 2008 and the Jackets two conference losses THE PAST FOUR YEARS  have BOTH been there! Besides Crenshaw its the toughest place to play on the ODAC, especially for us! Gonna be a good game today but my gut tells me we lose another close one to your Quakers! Plus I gotta say I LOVE your announcers! Usually I turn on Marty and Andrew( our announcers) and watch the visitors video feed but always like to listen to your guys.....reminds me of the old Pilot-Life ACC Broadcasts with Billy Packer and Jim Thacker!....lol

Well, R-MC survives at Guilford, 72-66. A hot shooting first half (47-30 halftime lead) was barely enough cushion to withstand the expected comeback. GC ramped up the defense and R-MC appeared to employ a different offensive strategy in the second half, not flooding the court with their four three point shooters (Robertson, Coble, Morris and Anthony) at the same time as they had done successfully for quite a bit in the first half. GC's Liam Ward is the real deal.

Despite beimg regionally ranked three slots behind Roanoke, after today's loss by Maryville Guilford will likely move from 7th up to 4th or 5th in the regiom. Hopefully the Quakers will do well in the ODAC tournament, make the NCAAs and win some games, which they are extremely capable of doing.

RMC deserves their ranking, but they won't shoot 11 of 15 on threes in a half often.  The Quakers were in a deep hole.  BTW, to my knowledge, Liam Ward never got Player of the Week this whole season ... that's a shame.  He is the real deal.  I personally hope GC and RMC meet again in the finals.

i agree Hasa....If you shoot like that in the first half you can beat Duke!! Very unlikely scenario and if they both fight through to the finals the outcome may be quite different ! Ward, aka " The Doctor" is quite a player!! Your announcer has a nickname for everybody on the team I think...lol...." The snake...The Hunter...The Juice"....that's what I was talking about earlier....entertaining duo you have down there!

Assuming H-SC gets past lowly Shenandoah, H-SC vs. Guilford is a sneaky good upset pick in Salem. Tigers beat Guilford in Farmville, only lost by like by three points down in Greensboro. Tigers got the ball back with 15 seconds to play down one with the chance to win it.

Macon should smoke Bridgewater or Eastern Mennonite - neat that we get a rivalry guy in the play-in game between those two though
Washington and Lee vs. Roanoke is going to be a toss up, I'll slide with Roanoke with the hometown advantage
Virginia Wesleyan should beat Lynchburg if TC Thacker remains out.

rmc1982

Ok here we go! Jackets  draw Bridgewater and the Quakers draw H-SC.....the Quakers bracket looks maybe a tiny bit tougher with H-SC, Lynchburg, and VWC but just maybe by a little. I remember 2 years ago when the Jackets needed a near miracle finish to come from behind against Roanoke in the Semi finals I think.....W & L is no slouch either- thats why this tournament is always such a crapshoot! Most everyone in the top 6 or 7 can beat any of the others on a given night. Lets face it- the Jackets plainly dodged a bullet last Saturday shooting 75% in the first half behind the arc and putting Hasa's Quakers in a big hole early that they almost dug their way out of!! It could just as easily be another team doing it to R-MC.....we already have a target on our backs and stranger things have happened in this tournament! Gonna be a fun one to watch! Good Luck to ALL this week!!  GO JACKETS!!

Jackets advance 80-56 behind Buzz with 22 and Josh Talbert with 17..... Roanoke advances with a win over the Gennies to set up a Saturday showdown with the Jackets..... Tonight should be interesting also!

24 of Guilford's 52 shots were threes, and they get 37 free throws. 24 of H-SC's 59 shots were threes, and they get 11 free throws. ::)

I don't have much faith in my Maroons but we played pretty well against W and L.  If we play like we did yesterday we stand a chance but I think for a 3rd consecutive season our season will end because of Randolph Macon.

Last night the #1 seeds in two conferences here in the midwest lost semi-final games. Anything can happen. I hope the Jackets are ready because I'm sure the Maroons are.
