On a side note, in my early 20's I worked with Gary DeRusha for 2 years. The stories he could tell about his childhood with AWA wrestlers around the house as his dad was Al DeRusha the promoter for the AWA.
Also, Gary was a referee in the WWF in the early 1980s for a couple years,that is a whole 'nother set of stories!

I highly recommend reading "The Sheikh of Bagdad" by Adnan Alkaissy.  I has one of his sons as a student a few years back and the kid suggested I read his dad's book.  The Sheikh definitely has lived an adventurous life.

Coincidentally, and speaking of kids not knowing how good they have it, I get a text last night from #2 son, who works at Ogilvy in NYC,..."I'm at WWE Smackdown...I'm a guest of the WWE. They picked me up at work in a party bus."

Yes and I believe attend and maybe had a scholarship to Oklahoma State.

Yes and I believe attend and maybe had a scholarship to Oklahoma State.

According to Wikipedia he did wrestle at Oklahoma State.  We had an Iraqi exchange student at my HS in the 70's, he wrestled for the varsity the year he was here and he was almost unbeatable, wrestled 125 and could take kids 50 pounds heavier than he was.  The Iraqis love their wrestling.  I have met a few vets that came back from Iraq and they said that wrestling was a common ground and helped them to bond with some of the Iraqi national forces.

The song, as noted, was indeed about the Crusher... and as the Baron would say: "Dat is all da people need to know!"

I once saw Dino Bravo bodyslam Jerry "The Woodtick" Blackwell...

And had a friend who, when an offshoot circuit to the AWA was trying to form in the early 1980s, was able to meet with some of those wrestlers at a bar in Eau Claire after their matches... She can boast that Mad Dog tweaked her on the cheek!  ;)

Ah... the memories of the AWA, when it aired late Sunday nights in my neck of the woods, in black-and-white, when wrestling was "real," and pre-WWF...  ;)

And the Baron was a school teacher, I believe...

I just had a very proud moment that brought a Dad's proud tear to my eye.

Nine year old number two is getting ready for school and asks me if I'll make a Justin Bieber song her ring tone on my phone when she calls me with her phone ("which I'll get one day, you know, Dad!").

I answer, "No, because Justin Bieber has a stinky butt."

Her reply?  "How do you know?"

One day she or one of her sisters may be on here holding up the tradition of our own Bennie and giving the boys hell.  *snif*

I don't think you can have grown up in Minnesota and not have watched AWA wrestling on Sunday mornings because, yes, I watched wrestling too! FYI, Precious Paul Ellering's sister was a Bennie!

I'm with maniac on this one. When he wasn't running for his life or adjusting to his 3rd OC in 4 years, Weber showed some talent. He was a tough kid with a strong arm playing for an offense with zero running game and a fat, slow footed Oline. But at least they had a strong D...err, wait  :o

All that to say, I'm guessing Decker is pretty pleased to be on the receiving end of #18's spirals!

"I'm a uniter, not a divider."  I know I'm not the first person to ponder that phrase.  Napoleon was a uniter while Jefferson was a divider.  Julius Caesar was a uniter while Cicero was a divider.

American history is littered, particularly at the founding, with heroes who were dividers.  One of my favorite quotes from a fierce divider:

Another unrelated item directed directly at Oz...A buddy and his family are en-route to the land down under.  He and a bunch of us here in St. Paul, MN frequently enjoy a pour or two of whiskey.  Any recommendations what he should try to bring back the states?  Can he ship some to us or does that get expensive. Thanks much!

On whiskeys, your mate has some great choices.  The top recommendations are:

Bakery Hill right here in Melbourne, and

Lark Distillery in Tasmania.

Both will deliver international if you call them, but I bet it's pricey.  I think your friend can bring back two liters so I would go with that.  Shipping may cost a fortune.
