Hope 108  Olivet 57

Hope was just awesome tonight.  Great ball movement, great execution of the offense and lethal shooting.  On defense they had Olivet flustered with leading scorers Vondette and Krum held to 2 and 4 points.  One of those nights one team has it and the other just doesn't have enough of 'it'.  Hope exploded for 17 points to zero in the final 2:45 of the first half and that was pretty much all she wrote.

Hope:  Otto 16, Gardner 15, Eidson 15, Blackledge 13, Byers 11
Olivet:  Woodson 15

A lot of people might look at Sam Otto's 16 and figure that was garbage time but Sam was very impressive tonight and was on the floor and scoring during Hope's big run to take command of the game.  Sam came in with Hope up 6 and left with Hope up 12 and scored 8 big points almost in a row.  Also nice to see Harrison Blackledge play well in his time on the floor.  Overall this really typified a total team effort, really everyone played well.

SBell

Trine's Jared Holmquist dominates teams without real centers. He had his third successive career high with 28 points, and 10 rebounds against his dad's alma mater. In the last three games Holmquist averages 24 points on 70-percent shooting.

I'm pretty confident last night was Hope's biggest conference win since 2003 when they beat Kalamazoo 100-35 in the most lopsided and one of the strangest games I've ever witnessed.

This was Hope's biggest margin over Olivet since a 124--64 win in 1960.  These sets of scores must have a story about them somewhere.

1959 Hope 100, Olivet 54
1959 Hope 22, Olivet 6
1960 Hope 124, Olivet 64

Since that is before the shot clock, could we assume Olivet just sat on the ball forever in that second game in 1959?

The Hope/Olivet game is still available on their Ustream link.  It should remain there until the next Olivet ustream event.

My guess is the story might have something to do with the 57-58 and, 58-59 Hope teams going 13-1 in the MIAA. Hope 59-60 went 14-0 (Hillsdale in MIAA at that time).
From MIAA site:
"Single season records
Team total points: 1,291 - Hope, 14 games, 1959-60"
"If you are catching flack it means you are over the target".  Brietbart.

standings with +/-........+1 for road wins/-1 for home losses

Hope    10-1     +4
Calvin   9-2     +4
Trine     7-4      +2
Albion   6-5      0
Kzoo     4-7      -1
Alma     3-7      -3
Olivet    3-7     -2
Adrian   1-10     -4

Hope has clinched a home game in the MIAA Tournament, they hold the tie-break over Trine

Calvin has clinched a spot in the MIAA Tournament, a win over Trine Saturday clinches a home game.

Trine needs one more win to clinch a spot.  All the teams that can tie them at 7-7 need to beat either Hope or Calvin except Albion.

Albion, one more win really doesn't clinch anything for Albion, lots of results that affect tie-breakers remain.  In a really good position to make the tournament though.

Kzoo, needs to sweep remaining game, requires beating Hope

Alma needs to sweep remaining games, requires beating Hope, hold tie-breaker over Albion.  Essentially an elimination game with Olivet on Monday if both win this weekend.

Adrian is eliminated

I suppose there's a scenario where Albion drops all 3 remaining games creating a tie for 4th at 6-8 with at least one other team.  In that case, many of the tie-breakers are yet to be determined.

Home teams are just 20-23  this year

What's left:
Adrian:    @Kzoo, ALMA, HOPE
Albion:     OLIVET, @Trine, @Calvin
Alma:       @Hope, @Olivet, @Adrian, KZOO,
Calvin:     @Trine, OLIVET, ALBION
Hope:      ALMA, @Kzoo, @Adrian
Kzoo:      ADRIAN, HOPE, @Alma
Olivet:     @Albion, ALMA, @Calvin, TRINE,
Trine:      CALVIN, ALBION, @Olivet

I'm listening to the pre-game with the Trine announcers. These guys are fantastic. They really do their homework and even interview the opposing coach with some excellent questions. One nugget they uncovered was VandeStreek's concession that he can't remember going so deep into a season still looking for a set rotation.

I listened to them a few weeks back and thought then they were the best radio crew in the league.  Showed no favoritism toward either school and had a high basketball IQ.

Calvin is going to need to find some bench production.

Also, does Trine not have a live stats page? Couldn't get it on my phone.

They have live stats (Presto), but it was very unreliable.  I kept changing browsers to try to get it to stay, but nothing really worked.

I just checked again now, and the best way to get it is linking from MIAA.org.

I kept track of the entire game with Live Stats and had no  problem at all.  What a comeback!

Olivet's already used two JV players in their top 6 at Albion.  In fact it looks like they have only 6 guys dressed in uniform.

They snuck one in on me, up to 7 now as the third JV guys makes his appearance.

Also Mark Ghafari in the starting lineup at Kzoo.  Was led to believe he was done for the year, interesting.
