Last Week

Nothing changed for UR, I was correct about the inverts and back end, other than the DBs being week this year. Its the same movie over and over. Short field etc...UR is not getting the same players....I wont be an old guy and keep repeating myself.

The big surprise for me was CU.... A good message for all players there are three facets to the game and Chapman was the victor because of it. Nice win for the SCIAC

Both leagues are down, looks like L & C and GF maybe in the NW mix too and CLU looks to be getting better.

The Linfield kicker missed 3 field goals, including a 25 yard kick to tie the game at the end. CU was lucky to win that game.

The Linfield kicker missed 3 field goals, including a 25 yard kick to tie the game at the end. CU was lucky to win that game.

I used to think like you but, in a game with good teams, you have to make the plays. LF failed and deserved to take the "L". One can not miss on opportunities.

If they had a rematch sure LF would be a 3 point favorite, but its why they play and forum like this are just for fans.

Linfield's special teams have been bad the past 2 seasons and it bit them on backside against a solid team. Like dog said, 3 phases to a game and while you may not win a game via special teams, you can for sure lose one.

Same coach as in the past?  or just the kickers. A good kicker makes your special team coach look good.
That punt block in the endzone took to long to get off, regardless of the blocking being horrible. I am sure they have a "tight" call where the front takes a half second longer to block before they get the back line.

I'm still of the opinion that better play calling on the last series of the game would have negated the need for a FG attempt.....so many better options than 2 passing plays (with a QB who was struggling all game) and QB run in that situation......

Both Chapman and LF had plenty of opportunities to take control and put the game away. At the end of the day, it comes down to making plays when they matter most, and Chapman did exactly that.

Right now, the top team in the SCIAC and NWC is Chapman. The Panthers went on the road and knocked off the NWC champions in last year's playoffs, then followed it up with a win over a nationally ranked LF team this season.

What surprises me is that LF continues to receive more votes than Chapman in multiple national polls. Chapman won the head-to-head matchup and led at halftime on the road against a team that is now ranked No. 8 in the country, in its season opener. Chapman will need to keep winning and I would imagine they end up in the top 25 here soon.

George Fox is going to have a legit chance to win the NWC. They have some studs on the line.

Linfield handled UW-Oshkosh on the road, which probably still earns it some votes. Losing by three on the road is kind of a push on a neutral field, if you're a voter who believes in that.

Old ST coach moved on and a new one this year. They worked hard to find a kicker that can kick it deep or put it out of the end zone and they did that.  However, I can't tell you how many times the return unit gets penalized where it negates good returns. That's been a trend for a few seasons now. T

That punt block such a bad blown assignment and that shouldn't happen in our program.

I like our FG kicker, he just had an absolute terrible night and the challenge is if he's able to mentally bounce back.

It's Peace Pipe week! I guess we're not allowed to call it that anymore but it will always be Peace Pipe week to me.

I hate that they play this huge rivalry game so early in the year. No reason why scheduling couldn't allow that game to be in the last week or two of the regular season. Also a bummer that they're playing at Pomona for the 2nd straight year. That stadium is not cut out to handle the big crowd that they draw for this game. The new CMC one really isn't either but at least there is a lot of standing room.

Anywho, should be a good matchup. Looks fairly even. And I can't impress upon you enough how much these two teams (student bodies??) dislike each other. This is not a friendly rivalry. Like I can't imagine there is a sports rivalry anywhere with more bad blood. It's why it's so fun!!

SCIAC WEEKLY PREDICTIONS 🏈

CMS 21 | Pomona-Pitzer 10

Coming into the season, I expected more out of PP. Look for CMS to establish the run and control the tempo in this one.

Cal Lutheran 28 | Redlands 7

Redlands continues to struggle offensively, and another week without production could lead to another loss. I'm still waiting for Cal Lu to establish a consistent running game. If they can't figure that out, they're likely headed for another average season.

Chapman 35 | La Verne 14

La Verne enters SCIAC play with a ton of confidence after starting the season 2-0. Meanwhile, Chapman has faced one of the toughest nonconference schedules in Division III, which should pay dividends heading into conference play. The keys for Chapman will be shutting down the run and containing La Verne's mobile quarterback. If the Panthers can accomplish both, look for them to take control of this game.

Very loser mentality at the end of the half for the Bulldogs. At CL 22, don't take a time out until 3 seconds. Then miss the FG. Take a time out with 10 seconds. Take a shot at the EZ. There are no other QB in the program? Qb play is so bad and UR paid for a OC qb coach. I feel bad for these kids. Offensively the players are fighting uphill battles cause the coaches can't figure it out.
