I follow all sports at the U  but when Mia was with  the program was giving Moravian a fight and going to the NCAA but before her and after her the program is not even close to competing,The Men's Baseball team has 2 NCAA tournament appearances 2 I think .So my question is what the hell do you call Success.Success is what Ben does with the Lady Royals ,Success is what Mike Strong and Bob Bessior did while at the U that is success. All I hear everyone say wow beautiful complex should help with Recruiting well guess what nothing in those two sports that play there has come to reality.

Pat Coleman

There are probably only a few coaches of Mike Strong's caliber or Bob Bessoir's caliber in all of Division III at any given time. That's a super high standard to maintain.

11 20 plus win seasons, 2 30 win seasons, and two trips to NCAA since joining Landmark.

That sounds pretty successful to me. Especially where you see where the program was prior under previous coach.

Well we will have to agree to disagree and how we measure success!!Yes Mia was the right Coach for the Women's softball that is when they had success today not so much.Mens Baseball under Bartoletti if you call making the Landmark conference success that is fine (I don't).Men's Basketball just yikes I guess 13-12 is success lmao 🤣. We just have to different meanings of success Just don't tell the Yankee fans if they miss the world series you had a successful year.

Great Day:

I agree with Augie on this one.
Baseball has made exactly 2 trips to the NCAA tournament in the current coach's 20+ years at the helm.
Two.
And, those have both come in the past 4 seasons.
Additionally, in those 2 trips his record is 0-4.
Scranton has the best facility in the Landmark & beyond but if you don't recruit hard, good things don't happen.
Scranton has Keystone 12 miles away that is constantly having deep runs in the NCAA's & 2 years ago neighboring Misericordia won it all.
There is no reason the Royals should be struggling every year to even make the Landmark playoffs let alone the NCAA's.

As for softball.
Sorry...this program took 5 steps back under the new staff.
Mia had them challenging Moravian each year but once she left, Lady Royal softball has taken a nose-dive.
By the way...in her second season at Valley View HS outside of Scranton, Mia led their softball team to a Pa. large school State Championship.

Who said coaching doesn't matter?

Great Day to be a Royal

I just don't see it. The program is absolutely in better hands than 25 years ago. It took some time, but the program year in competes for the conference title, something that was never said prior to joining the Landmark.

I do not want to speak poorly on another school, but you cannot possibly compare Scranton to Keystone. Very different schools, and academic requirements. Also, Keystone plays in arguably one of the worst conferences in the country.

We should also move this to baseball board, ha

Yes, Keystone plays in an overall weak conference but they absolutely hold their own with anyone on the national scene.
Take a look at how they've done through the years in the tournament.
You are correct...different types of schools (K-stone vs. the UofS) but Jamie busts his asz finding the right kids for his program all over the US.
From what I've seen & heard, it's hard to get the Royal braintrust off the couch to recruit even a local kid.
If Scranton put 1/10 the effort into recruiting Jamie does, they'd win the Landmark every year.
When it takes a coach 22 years to finally figure things out & make their first NCAA appearance...things are not going well.
Perhaps a little better but certainly not well.

Speaking of not going well......

Will this be the final year of the Danzig experience?

NEPAFAN

why didn't they release the names of the recruits this year?
A school without football is in danger of deteriorating into a medieval study hall.

They're probably waiting for that elusive 6'4" kid with a 3.3 GPA. :)

Last year, they didn't post the recruit information on the website until August 30, so they still have a week...

While we're on the subject:  why haven't they posted the rosters for the fall sports?  Season openers are less than a week away!
